In this video we talk about the Zamioculcas Zamiifolia also known as the ZZ Plant. These are the chapters if you want to skip forward. Purchase (00:43) Planting (14:29) Placement (20:38) Care of the plant (26:22). Thank you for watching!
After watched this 40 mins video, I went out to Home Depot and bought myself a ZZ plant today. I am currently looking at my ZZ plant and writing this comment. Thank you Swedish Plantguys!
@@cuddlefish322 The Raven is $50 here in Calgary, Alberta. For a small one. Some of the regular ZZ are $40 for small ones, over $120 for 2-foot high plants.
@@vicj2141 Oh man that's steep!! I assume its probably because we have a lot of plant growers in the US in hot/humid climates like Florida that aren't as plentiful in Canada :^(
Bought this randomly 3 years ago and this beauty has been with me for thick and thin with little demand for care! Stays a vibrant green even after weeks of no water and barely any sunlight. Favorite plant I have ever owned! Sprouts new growth out of nowhere. Never repotted it. I finally just started talking to it- called her beautiful I think she turned even greener lol.
“So, just don’t eat it” - 🤣🤣🤣 - (I love this guy! He does such a wonderful job explaining things! I take notes many times as I watch his videos. Hello from USA!)
This is a perfect plant for a teenage daughters room...my daughter loved the ZZ raven we got one on a trade ...its now baring a strange resemblance to my moody vampire like teen ...thin, pale, tall, ...lol but thriving and alive lol Once a month it gets several days sabbatical to the bathroom for a good soak, drain, rinse the leaves ...then within 3 days back to the shelf in the vampire layer lol love it
I've been growing these for years. My favorite thing about the ZZ is that you can propagate a new plant with a single leaf. I also like how dramatic they look when they get very large.
I went to the supermarket today , whilst i was queueing to be allowed in , i noticed a lonely , ZZ plant by the door , it jumped in my trolley as i walked past ! I never owned one before, so happy to hear its fairly easy :) . Thank you for all your videos , I find them a great source of no fuss information .
I live in EU too, my mom is a plant lover but mine always died until she gave me this plant, we also call it closet plant and now I have 4 pots out of one plant I had, it is pretty easy to separate roots. I love this plant and it has become a favorite gift for my friends as well.
My first time exploring with plants, watching this guy gives me the confidence I'll be needing. The depth of his delivery was so extremely helpful he answered all the questions I had, and also ones I didn't even think of. Super cool.
Thanks. Very informative. I had a ZZ plant which grew quite big and was bursting out of the pot. I re potted into a larger pot and leaves started going yellow, and the beautiful plant eventually died. I learned from watching this what my mistake was. Wrong size pot and too much water
These plants (and pothos) are one of the few that have survived the neglectful, ignorant start of my plant journey... which has spanned years! I am so thankful to now know enough to give mine all the love they so deserve! Thank you for making such simple yet comprehensive videos!
I have mine for 15 years n never got flowers. I grew mine from 1 single leaf. It s the best plant, easy to care for. I decided to transfer all my plant into water last week and so far so good.
thank you for this video. I keep buying ZZ plants. I can't seem to get enough of it. You literally can place it anywhere in the house. I like it when I see it popping out of the pot. this plant is amazing😊
Probably one of the most informative, clear, concise assessment of the ZZ plant. A wealth of knowledge passed on. Thank you so much for posting . Just purchased my firstZZ plant . You’ve got another subscriber 👍
I’m enjoying and very quickly relying on your channel to see the various sizes of any given plant species, I had not seen a large ZZ Plant and knew if I come here you will have it. It’s extremely helpful as it helps on making a decision on whether a plant will aesthetically work in a given place in the home, however, it would be nice if you could show us a full photo of the large plants, I realize the inconvenience of having to stop filming to back up the camera but I think even a inserted photo would do the trick! Thanks again for the excellent and informative video! 🪴
When a plant has many stems in one pot - grab it!! Means it's a great mother/producer. Love your video & love that you give info in great detail. Thank you so very much.
Please do an "All you need to know about Philodendron, Allocasia and Lithops" 🤗 I know I asked a lot 😅 but would LOVE to know as much as I can about these :)
I m a new plant mom and just got my ZZ plant two days ago I’m so excited with this I really love my beautiful ZZ thank you for sharing your knowledge about this plant very informative 😊
Wonderful video! I've been into houseplants for almost 2 years now, but i have just recieved my first Zamioculcas so i wanted to brush up on knowledge. Side note, i love the way you say Plondts what an awesome accent.
I have to repot my ZZ plant and realized that I don't know how deep should rhizomes sit? I search high and low, but the information about it is very different. Some say they should never be covered by soil completely, others say they the light can kill them, cover with the soil very good. So what do you suggest? Really desperate here 😄🌿 P.S.: never mind, I found that in you other video, about ZZ propagation 😄 cover with soil, they don't like the sun 😎 THANK YOU 💞💖
I watched most of this video. It was very helpful, but perhaps you can add a category “propagation” as many of us want to learn that part of plant care. Thank you.
I just watched a video from a plant specialist from Zambia on the channel "Plant one for me" They were repotting one that was horribly root bound and it was flowering, but he said it was because the plant was very stressed and overcrowded so it was trying to propagate elsewhere. I guess it could flower for both reasons.
Ive been looking for a zz plant for along time, and today I found one! I bought it came home and went to You Tube to find out as much as possible about the zz plant. I chose your videos and I haven't been disappointed with the information!. Thank you very much. Infact I might even do some propagating... very happy 😁👍👍 plus every question I have for the zz plant you already have the answers. It can't get any better than that...unless you know different? Which I doubt 👍👍
I do half hydroponics (plants in water) and half in soil. I took two clippings of my ZZ that was being crowded out and put them in water (a small vase). 3+ months and they still look beautiful, and have sprouted roots (took a long time). So they work for hydroponics too.
Such great coverage on ZZ ☘️ mine has a flower !but yellow leaves on a few stems. Also I feel it has out grown the pot . So I will half it and keep it in two pots . of course fingers crossed.
Had gotten the ZZ plant two months ago and it's been flourishing every since, just got the Raven yesterday and I'm happy about the possibilities, thank you for reminding me about it being poisonous, and thank you for sharing your knowledge on plants🤗🤗
I just bought my first ZZ Chameleon plant. I have orchids and other houseplants but the growth habit of this one intrigued me. I appreciated the in-depth information on your channel. I enjoy watching you show examples of the plants and things you’re talking about. So much knowledge. Thanks for sharing! I feel more confident that I will be successful with my latest ZZ addition.
Thank you for making this video! I’ve had my ZZ plant for about 6 years and it’s hard to find depth information. You covered two of my issues I’ve always had questions about- yellowing leaves & grooves on the stems. Thank you!
thank you for having this vedio coz i dont know the name of it. i have it in my small garden its beautiful and easy to takecare of. Zamioculcas is the name thanks that i know it.
Thank you! I was wondering why my new zz was showing a tinge of yellow, I hadn't watered it yet but it was wet. I've now switched its soil so hopefully it will be saved from the drowning! 💗
Idk why I'm watching this till the end, when it says I don't really need to care that much for my zz plant 🌱😁 Love it, really good and informative channel!!
Thank you for this video guys! Nobody ever goes into this much detail about ZZs, it's usually like "Oh, ZZs are easy, don't worry about them" And I like to have a full understanding of what I'm doing, even if it's something as simple as growing a ZZ plant. I also have an unrelated question today, for one of your future Q & A videos. There isn't a lot of natural light in my house (probably a common problem for many plant lovers) so I installed a few grow lights to support my plants, at least in winter. But I keep them on at night (they are in the kitchen), and turn them off for the day. The plants seem to be doing pretty well under them, even growing. But I heard that plants need darkness just as much as they need light. Is that true? Will I eventually harm my plants if I keep it up like that? My grow lights are full spectrum (daylight), they also serve me as lamps (the plants are just gathered right under them) so it makes sense to turn them on as it gets dark and then I just leave them on until the morning. I think the plants under those lights get more light during the night than during the day, because they are all tucked away in pretty dark corners where the sunlight doesn't reach. But those plants hardly get any pitch black darkness. Should I change what I'm doing?
A friend of mine has a Zz he left in a box after he moved to a new house, it was in the box 3 or 4 months and it survived but was in the same sad state as you described yours when he found it. It's doing good again now. Just bought my 1st 2 zz's today
I have one. If you trim the top, will it get wider/ fill out at the sides??? The one I purchased was over watered from the garden center. I took it out of the pot after much struggle since it had become pot bound, and just repotted it with soil for succulant plants so that the plant would have a chance to dry out . I placed it in indirect light in a clay pot and it's doing well. I like that you take the time to give the information needed on the plants along with suggestions for the care of each. Thanks so much from GEORGIA.
Hi, thank you so much for your channel, I call yuo Plant Engineer ;). In Italy the ZZ plant is called also the Father Pio's plant. Thanks to this video I finally know that with my ZZ is everything ok, because... I was looking for the Zenzi one, that I can't find anywhere.
I have 5 regular ZZs, a large black Raven, a Zenzi, a Chameleon and my wonderful sister just gifted me a variegated ZZ for Christmas 💚 I LOVE these plants and appreciate your videos and information on them. Thank you!
Really informative video, I really like the videos that concentrates on everything about a certain plant. I wish you guys would do a video like this on jade plants. I need to prune a couple, and want them to branch out to form a tree like jade. And to thicken the main stem
Richard,.thanks for sharing on line!.this information about zz plant. i recently bought the black purple green raven zz plant.thanks for the tips and suggestions.have a good day.take care.
May i say how happy i am to stumble onto your channel. This is the most educational video I’ve ever watched about plants.. I love the way you explain about plants very slowly so I was able to learn. Thank you. I definitely subscribed to your channel..
When I first saw the ZZ plant at a nursery, I though the rhizomes were stones. I kept wondering: why are there so many rocks in this plant pot? And it’s taking up space in the pot!
Loving your very informative videos! You are very pleasant and easy to listen to and present the information in an easy to understand way. Love your accent as well! Cheers from Canada!🇨🇦❤️💚
Would you add one more thing to your plant information videos? Is the plant pet safe? I know you mention ithere, but it needs to be mentioned for all plants. THAT would make your videos really complete. For most of us, it is a important consideration. Hope you consider it. Thanks. 🙂
Thanks for your super informative video about this ZZ plant. I’m so glad I’ve found your channel. And it’s good to know that this plant does not get pests easily. However could you do a video or do you have a good strategy to control the super annoying fungus gnats when you take all your plants indoors during winter? Much appreciated.
Hi! I just finished watching your video on 8 problems we may have with ZZ's and you had this one linked to it. I really enjoy how you go into such detail and make it so understandable. I love my ZZ plants so much! I have 5 regular and 2 ZZ Ravens. I'm hoping to find a Zenzi at a reasonable price soon. Thank you for sharing! BTW, it might be helpful if you show us a plant with the "problems" you talk about. A lot of us appreciate more visuals when talking about things.
Just got a Zenzi for 50% off, it looks like it was a little abused and some leaves are missing probably from people stealing leaves to propogate. But I'm excited to see how it recovers in the coming months!
Its like more of geraniums, succulents or cactus which survives in a closet . I will be buying such plant for my plant home collections. Thank you swedish guy.
