Too late, i already removed my nvme sticker. do not care about warranty. have 3 of them already for ALLY, SD and GPD wm2. got an amazing decrease on temperature. From 90+ without this mod and now only 56 to 58 running speed test on cyrstal disk. I used 1mm gelid gp-ultimate thermal pad. Your the best brother! Keep it up.

I saw the thumbnail of your ally with the fan mod. I ended up doing it to my own and the temps under 60°s. I've now interested in doing this mod since you made it simple. I'm going to order the stuff and try it out. I did upload a video showing off the temps on warzone and apex and was satisfied. If what your saying is true I should be able to get it down to 40°. Thank you! I got this as a birthday gift and was really worried when I saw how hot it got. It's true what they say, not all heros wear capes :')

Congratulations thank you very much for your content, you have helped me with all my improvements, the only thing that bothers me is that it literally does not want my 1tb Sandisk micro sd card,Any micro sd passes without problem but when I insert it into the Asus rog ally, the system becomes slow and starts generating small errors in the system such as closing programs or not opening them, Yes it sounds strange, but I guess I'm one of those very particular cases I don't know friend, I have literally handled several equipment before but this one in particular has given me problems, good luck with the channel and thanks for your support🎉❤🎉🎉

@@cppctek I think this is one of the most effective and easiest HW mod to improve the life of the components. After implementing the suggestions in your other video on removing bloatware and fan curve the system was more responsive. Also have been playing around with disabling the core isolation memory integrity thingy which improved the performance 5%-10% and also disabling the CPU boost in power options helped with prolonging the game time on battery. I am waiting for the heatsink and NAB to arrive. This mod along with the software tweaking already done, will definitely take my ally experience to a different level.

I have a Sabrent 1 TB and HW states average temp of 46c. With you're experience with this mod, will it bring it below the 40c? Is it worth it for the temp i have. Thanks for the good work and keep providing info that others don't discuss.
@cppctek
@cppctek Год назад
Awesome so what I’d suggest doing to see how hot it really gets. Open up hwinfo, make sure you see the drive temps. Drive 1 is memory temps on the drive and drive 2 is the memory controller on the drive. Run something like crystal disk mark and keep the hwinfo open. Watch the temps. See if it goes above 70c. Anything above that is thermal throttle city and not suggest long term. Running crystal disk mark and crystal disk info as the only source to see the temps isn’t as optimal as it doesn’t update fast enough to show real time temps. Check my latest video on the nvme saga I posted after this for a good q&a video that will help answer more questions even ones you didn’t know you had lol. Also yeah it will drop temps for sure below 46. At times while gaming at 30w manual all Sliders maxed I hit low 40s on forza and modern warfare which is really good that’s what my desktop temps are like with a big chungus heat sink on my evga z690 dark kingpin

Thanks for the videos on this mod 👍 Question though: For the thermal pad, is 80x40x1.00mm enough to cover all of the heatsink? Or does it have to be 120x120x1.00mm.. Just wondering because in the UK on amazon, the 80x40 gelid extreme is £8.69.. while the 120x120 is £30!

This mod is just great. Can it be that even the regular temps which are shown by armory crate are getting lower through this? Mine went from 95 highest to 88 max after getting it in :)

Yes it can lower apu temps because less heat is soaking into the apu from the spicy nvme hotboxing everything around it under the black flap

@@cppctek got sabrent rocket 2tb installed now with the heat sink you suggested and I used thermalright extreme odyssey thermal pad. I haven’t done any tests on it but just idling the 500gb that came with it was sitting on 53 degrees the rocket with the heat sink is idling at 45 degrees so definitely happy with that. I left the dust cover on inside it, I just cut out the space for the heat sink. My outter shell did bulge out a little on the top. But not much though, still had no issues putting the screws back in. The odyssey pads probably don’t squish as much as the gelid or nab.

My ssd (sabrent rocket 2tb) label is evenly level for the 1mm gelid thermal pad to sit flush with the heatsink. It’s not a crazy bowing but there’s a very tiny bowing. Maybe the heat will let the thermal pad settle when it runs? Just wanting to see you guys’ experiences. 😬 i did end up grinding off a corner of the heatsink to accommodate the heat pipe above.
@cppctek
@cppctek 11 месяцев назад
A slight pressure on the hearsink is good. All the heatsinks should have pressure slightly applied to have a greater impact on heat transfer.

@@cppctek Thanks for chiming in! Noted. If it bugs me to death, I'll shave off a teensy bit off of the surface. Otherwise, it's working well. I did have to just clone the drive instead of the cloud recovery, so there was that.
@SpinneretteAlex
@SpinneretteAlex Год назад
does the dent on the pipes affect ur ally at all? (the heatsink looks to have dented it)
@cppctek
@cppctek Год назад
So no after extensive testing not in the slightest. That was done when I tried a .5mm pad and it pushed down to close to the pipe. Needs more than .5 clearance. Also you can grind the corner down with a file but no it doesn’t affect it. If you see on multiple other parts of the heatpipe they bend those and they kink up and ripple in some spots. Heatpipes are pretty thick also and the walls are very hard to puncture

Hey just did this mod, got a slight buldge on the back where the heat sink is, but screws in back went on fine. Will the buldge affect the unit?

It’s completely fine as long as you didn’t have to force backplate on. Did you use 1mm gelid pad ?
@jdiver3

I didn’t have to force it back on. I used 1mm iceberg thermal DRIFTice pad as the gelid is so expensive here in Australia for some reason

always wondered if that k5 putty stuff would work with the different in size of the gaps.
@cppctek
@cppctek Год назад
No it’s a huuuuge mess to work with and would squeeze out past the nvme and get all over the board. Also it works better under pressure. It works better on laptops where there’s an oddly space gap and neither normal size pads work. I did a mod / experiment on an msi gp66 with stock k5 pro over the vrms and vram. I cleaned it all off and replaced with .5mm pads and even 1mm pads and tried several brands. All made cpu and apu temps worse but had better vram temps… so then I ended up copper shim modding everything and bam it was perfect for everything lol. Combo of copper shims and kingpin paste. Way better than stock putty solutions. There’s a huge point of diminishing returns with nvme temps so I would say chasing anything over what I did would be a messy rabbit hole with no real prize at the end of the tunnel. I do want to experiment with it in the future for cooling the mosfets and vrms but I’ve yet to figure out a perfect solution for securing a heatsink to them.

@@cppctek so should I buy a copper or aluminum heatsink? In Germany it’s difficult to get one in copper and a alu heatsink would be there by Tuesday.
@cppctek
@cppctek 9 месяцев назад
@F3l1x51 copper this size is way too heavy and overkill. The 20x20x10 aluminum is the way to go or the 25x25x10. Just refer to my video on how to use it and make it work. Be sure to get a 1mm thickness thermal pad and don’t use any thicker as it will not work as good and same with thinner. I’ve tested all thicknesses

I made out the words from the links and got to the correct pages. That said, what do you think of using thermal paste, specifically Cooler Master mastergel maker instead of thermal pads? It's very viscous and won't pumpout/leakout from the edge. I'm having 2280 length copper pin-finned heatsink with no adhesive and was thinking if that paste would also work as an adhesive. The copper heatsink I have just barely do not touch the back plate but if I add a thermal pad in between the backplate doesn't close.
