we were so happy to see the car make it but then it was so disappointing to see how bad that car was in the top ten, it was all over the place and Spicey Gricey was fighting it everywhere, he couldnt drive it in a straight line as seen down conrod, and it kept kicking its rear out as seen in the chase. Ended up being two and a half seconds slower than his best qualifying time and even with sticky qualifiers it was slower than his best race lap on race tyres on race day. Such a shame, it was in reality before the crash the only car capable of challenging the Sierras on the Mountain
Yeah I agree it wasn’t the best in the top 10 but you can’t blame him there was so much dust and dirt of the track from them building Caltex chase but even though it was a pretty rushed rebuild of the car it’s just impressive to see it on the track almost brand new but yeah agreed he could’ve done a little better
although set up better than the top ten the car was never 'right' after the repair. case in point it was two seconds slower in the race than in practice, and in the following race at Calder it was two seconds slower than 05. that's why it was shelved and eventually became an Auscar, where it was destroyed beyond repair
That's an amazing example of a brilliant driver making the most of a terribly bad situation.......and he was still enough of a legend to compliment those that worked so hard to rebuild it, even though the result was obvious for all to see.
It was a result of the accident earlier in the week and with the rushed repair resulted in poor tracking which was sorted ahead of the race on the Sunday.
0:46 listen to that V8 scream! The V8 in the VL sounds way better than the I6. To me it wasn’t really the best idea of holden to me personally the I6 belongs in Nissans not holdens
