I listen to him first time at 1979 on enigmatic ocean album of Jean luc ponty.....(it was a schok oh my Lord Jesus) & Gong group..... I deeply believe that he wasn't a simple human being... For me he was AVATAR devine incarnation he came in earth to show us a new way He's own New scales New sound New chords New soloing way I saw him in Athens 2006 giving a gig with his band... (that was my dream and it was a gift from God to see from close such amazing person...) So humble So unique God bless he's soul..

Allan's music and playing truly are the closest thing to magic that I have heard and witnessed in my life. Unbelievable!

If you like John Coltrane, how can you not fall in love with Allan Holdsworth?? 如果你喜欢科川,你怎么会不爱阿兰
@Andreorsel
@Andreorsel 7 лет назад
何瑞 , in fact there is almost no similarity to Coltrane in Allan's impro's. Totaly different harmonic approach. They both play fast with lots of notes but there the comparison stops.
@ruidioheadbebop3755
@ruidioheadbebop3755 7 лет назад
André Orsel For me, I like musician playing fast with dense notes in the improvisation. That's why I made the earlier statement.
@Andreorsel
@Andreorsel 7 лет назад
何瑞 , ah, ok, i understand. There many out there who beleive Allan has the same harmonic approach just because they here this fast fluid lines, and that's totaly wrong.
@ruidioheadbebop3755
@ruidioheadbebop3755 7 лет назад
André Orsel Allan's improv way is unique, so was Trane's in 1960s. Different uniqueness. Both legends to me.

The ending is awesome. It's always interesting to me to watch a master falter momentarily and see how they react, especially when they tank the ending of their own song. I'm sure he was mortified but to me, it was totally endearing.

Phil Sackett I was just thinking that! Such a mountain of a musician and still hyper concerned over a little flub like that. His solo was gorgeous!

@hschoville

You can tell he was extremely concerned with performance. Everyone has always been so impressed with Allan, except Allan. A true musician and technician (probably too much of a perfectionist). I love how he is scanning the music during his solo to root himself in the chord structure (and go way out if he wanted to). Thank you for posting this artifact of a master in time.

The end cracks me up. If i know Allan correctly he was thinking: "Thank god my dad was'nt around to witness that". I've only Seen him make a Face when the synthaxe was Teasing him but This This is just funny. Love How he handles the mistake.

He curls his indexfinger and presses the pick up against his hand/palm. A very common/standard thing to do. Watch @5:27 when he gets his pick ready again.
