Unbelievable to be able to memorize all those notes and rhythms. Not to mention play them! Great job. Holdsworth has such a strange and challenging style.
Alan himself would be blown away remember my friend you are playing a studio version I'm sure even Holdsworth would be terrified to play that exact version of the solo live
I know that must have taken an extraordinary amount of work, painstakingly going though, phrase by phrase, one after the other, getting all the fingerings just right and working it up to tempo. And it’s not like Allan’s here to coach you on how to do it. You had to do that. It’s just jaw dropping, though, and you should be very proud of the accomplishment. By the way, I know it was an improvised solo originally, and Allan would never do this kind of thing, but I think it stands as a perfectly legitimate musical endeavor, working up this piece, along with many others. The solo is worthy of being transcribed and played just as much as any piece that’s ever been written and played by any composer, classical, jazz, or otherwise.
Allan holdsworth is my fav guitarist. A uniqe and totally original voices. "Hard hat area", "Wardenclyffe tower", "Secrets" and "the Sixteen men of tain" are masterpieces
Superb. Very well done. Acurate. For most musicians improvisation involves just rearranging cliches. Allan didn't do that. And I think he was one of the best & most original improvisers in all known musical history. A genius. Glad i saw him six times.

When I was a teenager I used to walk miles (I couldn't afford the bus fare) to a guitar shop, and hang about there for hours because Allan was a close friend of the manager, and cadge free lessons from him. Soon after I got a well paying job and bought myself '64 SG Custom and spent hundreds of hours practising. These days I much prefer listening to Frank Zappa, as I find his playing is far more varied and visceral, and having played jazz on alto, soprano and flute for the last 20 years, I really appreciate that Frank sometimes pauses for breath as well.
Your legato technique is inspiring. Are you doing the Holdsworth/Lage Lund thing where you use hammer ons when descending as well? If so, how did you work on that?
