We had this in our wedding...such a beautiful song...We had a pro singer and people playing the fiddle and guitar...so amazingly beautiful. Makes my heart burst....
A very beautiful song. I love the sound of the bouzouki and the voice of this young talent. I am very proud that my country, Greece, awarded this masterpiece with 12 points. Norway along with Switzerland were my favourites that year.
How sweet is it to read nice comments about this song. I also enjoyed watching the finale back in 1993 and I kept Greece and Norway as my favourites and I still listen to both songs. 😊
I clearly remember--as if it were yesterday--how people were awed in Greece that the Norwegians chose to use the bouzouki for this soul captivating masterpiece. What's more, it was performed with such sensitivity and human warmth that I wish it had been the Greek entry, in which case I would have been proud.
I also remember the competition very well from 1993. It was a really good year with many beautiful songs. Greece and Norway were my favourites. Greece gave Norway 12 points and Greece received 7 points from Norway. I still listen to both songs and feel exactly the same way now as I did back then as an early teenager 😊🎶
This song makes me picture walking through a murky, Norwegian forest chasing a Norwegian forest cat while a random Greek man playing a bouzouki offers me pickled herring. She took me there.
I was 12 years old when this aired and i can't forget how the audience just started clapping along to the music! Absolutely love this 25 years later...
Amazingly heartwarming song, the bouzouki was indeed unexpected from Norway- but it makes it even more beautiful. The Norwegian language is indeed very beautiful language, atleast it sounds so in this song. Probably my winner in '93 togheter with Bosnia (and that was a VERY strong year) Jeg elsker dig fran Tyrkia 🇹🇷🇳🇴
So very underrated - this was a very beautiful melody that represented something very different that year. Very interesting that Greece awarded 12 points.
I didn't think they use traditional Greek music instrument in this beautiful song , I thought it was accordion ! Very nostalgic and pure , such a pity she didn't win! Masterpiece! She and Secret Garden could be the great winners of the 90's
If i hadn't watched the contest in 1993, I would bet that it was a greek entry! So bad Greece never sent such a song, it makes me in my 46 cry even today!
This is a pretty distinct dialect from the south-west of Norway (Rogaland). A lot of us don't speak like that. Unfortunately, because it's one of my favourite dialects.
It is a dialect more similar to Nynorsk than Bokmål. As most original Norwegian dialects actually are.( Even though many Norwegians dislike written Nynorsk)@@Ok-fh1xz
It's a such beautiful, emotional song. This performance is amazing, the studio version's even better. For me actually the clapping of the audience ruins it even more, it breaks the emotional side of the song.
I live in Hellas( in common language Greece) and i have to said that i felt very proud of that because only in 2001 or 2002 the Hellenic presentation has used bouzouki at then Helena Paparizou had taken the 3rd or 4th position
All my thougths. when I meet you in the street and you stop and smile this strange smile and stay there affecting that nothing happened, don't dare find my look. no one must see it, only you and I knew it. when I meet you at night and look at me with this strange light and fondles me softly, practise to mock by passing. no one must see it, only you and I knew it. all my thoughts fly towards you. all my dreams are open wide. in all my rooms only I see you. you lie down on my bed and sleep and sleep away. when you are among your friends and your rolling laugh melts my skin and you affect that you have never seen me, you are like a distant and inspired god. no one must see it, only you and I knew it. all my thoughts fly towards you. all my dreams are open wide. in all my rooms only I see you. you lie down on my bed and sleep and sleep away. all my thoughts fly towards you. all my dreams are open wide. in all my rooms only I see you. you lie down on my bed and sleep and sleep away. ((((The up and downs of life can usually change our boyfriends and they become angry at their girls. This is the origin of domestic violence. It is difficult for girls to make up her mind because this subtle violence, very often witty violence, is mixed up in all kind of faces of the everyday life of the couple. That's why it is difficult and maybe dangerous in a lot of senses. Basically the funds of the married couple or the socioeconomic future of the affair. But I declare and state that we have to get on with laying the blame on the worked-up boys at every moment and holding them the responsibility of the troubles that she has to bear alone.)))) 1/6/2024
yeah I always thought the lyrics were kind of creepy, this whole forbidden love thing was pretty ominous, but probably compounded by how sweet and innocent the singer looks and sounds.
Silje was just 15 years old at that time, and her father composed it. It’s a beautiful mix of Greek and Norwegian style of music. The father said he was very happy, that ESC received this kind of music, so well. -Alle mine tankar: All my thoughts. She sings it in her own dialect, from south west Norway. - Where they use French R’s not a rolling R, like in the Oslo, and north areas of the country.
Yeah, I'm Norwegian, so I shouldn't say it (plus I think Norway finished 5th and we were happy about that), but independent of our entry, I could never get why Ireland won that year. One of the worst winners, tbh.
Such shame for the scandinavian countries that didnt gave any point or some of them gave very low to this amazing quality song. Otherwise would have won easily!
+TheGoaBase may be you do not count Finland or Iceland as Scandinavian countries but Finland gave 12 points and Iceland gave 10, it were Denmark and Sweden that gave both 0 points, no points at all. Luckily the other countries did reward it with especially high votes from Turkey 10, Germany 10, Switzerland 10, Greece 12, Belgium 6, Portugal 8, Bosnia 7, Netherlands 6, Croatia 12 and Cyprus 8.
indeed you are right, i know about the results and the points from each country, but imagine also with Denmark and Sweden? Nothing?! its so hard, so wrong from them! ..and others, not Scandinavian ..U.K., Ireland?! they are near as countries ..and others with few points. not 12 or 10 ..sure could win! DAMN!
TheGoaBase No, we wouldn't had won with points from Sweden and Denmark, but maybe with 12 points from both of them maybe ended 3rd or something. We had ended on 144 points. Ireland had more than 170 or 180 I don't quite remember, but we wouldn't had won that's for sure!
By far the best song in 1993. Still don't understand the results because no other song in top 8 I find any special. Portugal and Croatia were also nice but this one was my runaway winner.
nil erra I can agree re Ireland, probably not the UK though as from what I’ve heard Sonia was quite popular throughout Europe so on that basis the UK would have been picking up points, and it was a very energetic performance. I think had it been tele vote, I think it would have been either the UK or Netherlands winning - though I can see Norway doing well!!
Anyway, I think Ireland deserved to win in 1993 (not in 1994, imo), it is an stunning song. Norway's entry is wonderful too, but not better than In your eyes. My top 3 is IE, NL, NO.
Botafogoplayground Interesting, its transpired that my top 10 for 1993 is much different to others, as it was just such a strong year. 1. Switzerland 🇨🇭 2. United Kingdom 🇬🇧 3. Spain 🇪🇸 4. Portugal 🇵🇹 5. Netherlands 🇳🇱 6. Greece 🇬🇷 7. Norway 🇳🇴 8. France 🇫🇷 9. Belgium 🇧🇪 10. Ireland 🇮🇪
@@JeSuisRene OMG! You placed the ES entry far too high... Thank you! I don't like our entries that much, but compared with this century's entries it's even good.
1:50 So unprofessional, just cutting away from the stage to the flash mob of applauding audience members and leaving the girl doing the actual singing invisible for like 30 seconds. Eurovision 1993, ladies and gentlemen.
OMG AHAHAHAHAHAH lay off the drugs!! Are you for real?? I can show you literally DOZENS of songs that make the vast majority of songs in this century unhearable!
In general 3 minutes is too little time for a song to shine. And this is one of the problems with ESC. Another weak side about ESC is the "need" for the songs to be "pumped up". "Quiet" songs often fall through, because many people don't think they "come to life". So for the sake of getting a better result, you may be right. For the quality of the song itself, I don't fully agree. But I would love it to be longer after the buildup, though.
For me most overrated song in points by juries. Song Don t deserve to be in TOP 10. Poor vocal, backing singer song almost sing all song with lead singer . France, The Netherlands, Sweden,Italy,Austria,Portugal,IcelandSpain,Croatia deserve more 5 th place that year.
