Steve, Have tried you coffee that I purchased at the Holly Land Café at Lowery and Central Avenue, Mpls.,MN. It was stronger than Expresso. I did like it and have some on occasion. During grade school I used a shoe repair shop on the Rum River in Anoka to repair camping gear. Broken rivets were replaced with canvas for most applications. For rain flies on tents extra material was added to support the grommets. The waxed Dacron thread also made a fine bow string for my hunting bow. My contribution during grade school was to watch and learn how repairs were made. When camping on a farm it was common to see boots needing repair. As one might expect the boots were not cared for, and had cracked. The shoe maker was able to get additional life from the boots, and the farmer was happy to have someone around who could fix things or have them fixed. For most purposes, any solution is a good one. Many farms did not have running water or electricity, and were living a comfortable life. Filling the kitchen wood bow, was considered good manners. Leaving muddy boots outside was also noticed. Offering to dry dishes after a meal was a good time to ask about rabbit and pheasant hunting. Many of the older farmers speak the language of the old country. Learning how they grew up was an eye opener. I do enjoy you program.
I have no connection to your craft but I love watching your videos and content, probably because I crave some craftsmanship in an increasingly mass produced commercial world.
More than happy to watch ads for channels/makers that deserve it. How can anyone begrudge supporting artisans who have spent their time to provide content? Especially when the viewer can control to 'skip' the ad if they choose. Keep up the good work. It's always a good day when I see one of your videos posted.
I open two instances of the videos that deserve the ad view. I watch the vid without, and let the other one go about its way with ads on. RU-vid doesn't know any better, i enjoy my view uninterrupted, and most important, the content creators get their revenue.
I agree that ads help recoup some of the time and money spent on creating the videos. But, RU-vid was ad-free for many years, and was never meant to provide income to the uploader. There, I covered both sides of that coin.
Never gets old. I send your videos to my Dad a retired cobbler who is in his mid 60s now, I connect with him through your videos. We just love this channel ♥️
Goodness knows how he manages to talk as he works. Me, my tongue goes between my lips and I say nowt. But I have to say he has brilliant dry sense of humour and I guarantee he brings a smile to my face every time I watch. So glad he posts on you tube.
Wow! Those look like new shows now! You are the best at what you do Steve! You should do some videos of you doing some custom leather builds of your own design!
Comment 1 - your uploads are totally fine. I get 1080. Comment 2 - the camera and filming is perfect too. Love your loafer shoe. Thanks. Great video. 👍🏻
@@evanpenny348 Dainite vid is 3 weeks old and New York boot vid is one week old. Both refuse to play any better than 360P in any browser, even browsers where I'm not logged in to RU-vid. All the other vids play at 1080P just fine in all browsers. Stats data for the 2 vids shows them streaming at 360P. Those two vids are even stuck at 360P on my Android phone. I'm sure it will resolve itself in time, but well over a week hasn't changed anything for those two vids for me.
This and the Boot vid are just now playing on my android. Prior to now, I got the "unsupported format" message. All of the rest of his vids played fine. I have no idea what the glitch was.
Hi Steve, Great work!!!! Because I sew I always enjoy when you use your sewing machines. I also like when you sew by hand as well. When my daughter came home from College at Christmas I had to hand sew her new suitcase, which took a beating at the airport. I would have loved to use a hand needle like you have, her suitcase was made from synthetic fabrics. I appreciate your CRAFT/ART so I don't expect you to be a pro cameraman. Your work brings me back time & again not your resolution (is that the right word?)!!!! Most people know what's important, while others' just want free & also commercial free entertainment!!! Take care & God Bless.
I keep saying it but what a master you are you are always 1 step ahead and you always give extra you don’t need film crew you are doing a fantastic job tell all the negative people to go away continue my friend for a very long time
I watch your videos before I go to bed for a couple hours and I only have a couple videos left.. I'm so sad. Looking forward to new videos. The longer the better. I never get board of watching. I notice and learn something new each time
The issue of video quality isn't your upload. Its youtube. It takes time for them to render the file in full 1080p. However, as soon as the video is uploaded it is available at 360p immediately. It takes about 15 minutes for youtube to process the video up to 1080. All that means is that you have fans that immediately tune in! That is a really good thing!!
In the middle of the job if Steve asked you to clean up his bench you'd throw the project out, thinking it was a pile of scrap leather...and then somehow at the end, it's a gorgeous shoe again. Great work as always!
The bottom of those shoes are awesome. The nail pattern plus the cross hatch paint really looks sweet. So what does the happy customer do, immediately puts the shoes on and wear that artwork right off! As I have learned over time in my job is the product needs to look good on the store shelf, not just perform well. Once again great video and ignore the haters.
Finally I saw how that sweet fish pattern is done on the sole. It's a painting! Btw, you've mentioned a few times that hot cork is not for repair shops only because it requires special machine. I guess they made it more affordable/compact since, they use it a lot on the Trenton & Heath channel, for example. That hot iron going through that oatmeal paste is very satisfying for the viewers, I have to admit 🙂. But as you mentioned, there is no structural difference, it's the same cork at the end.
Mmmmm! Love these! I’ve told ya I’m going to buy me a pair of Allen Edmonds! So beautiful...I can wear them and then will them. After all I am an ole 67 yr old man! Hopefully when I go God will tap me on the shoulder and say, “Let’s Continue!”
Hey Steve. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks to you I know a bit more about shoes. Please make as many videos as you can. You won't believe how eagerly I watch them. it's almost over a year now. I think it's cause you like what you do and that makes it special.
Don't worry about the trolls: they are never happy, no matter what you do. Nitpicking is the speciality of so many bored people; your videos are fine. I can see them just fine. I really enjoy your work and professionalism. Thank You for all you do; it's a real lift (no pun intended) in my day to watch you. Hammertime!
What is this talk about resolution? Somebody please tell me what I did not see. Commercials, what commercials. I have never seen a commercial while viewing your videos. What I continue to like about your newest videos is you show us an aspect of shoe repair that you have not yet shown. Resewing that toe cap is a new repair and you walked us through that beautifully once again showing what only you can do. Interesting that Allen Edmonds shoes were made a bit differently in the past. You continue to entertain mostly with your dialogue and humor. What's that, oh it is hammer time. You are the best.
I watch you in 1080p, no worries. There is a "quality" setting on RU-vid that can be changed. The default setting I think is 480p. The viewer can make the change in quality on the computer, tablet, or smart phone, whatever they watch RU-vid videos on.
I'm another viewer who is not involved with the shoe industry in any way, but I've learned so much about the various shoe-making processes through watching hours (and hours) of your videos. Thanks so much for the effort of recording these (I know what a pain it is). I have a new-found appreciation for the pair of custom-made shoes I have (feet are two sizes, and the wider is 6E).
Steve, I love your videos. You have a great sense of humor and you clearly take great pride in your craft. I admire your work and I never miss one of your videos. Kudos!
“Mini-hammer Time”- hilarious. Does the Hammer Guy still watch? I hope all our teasing did not hurt his feelings. We have all had some good chuckles at his expense. It never gets old. Viva la Hammer Guy. We love you, man.
Another AWESOME!!! shoe repair!!! Recrafted by the shoe master himself! Excellent job Steve. Love watching you do your magic. And i like how you did the fancy bottoms. Awesome my friend! I hope you keep making these videos.
So I'm watching in 1080P no problem. Also, I love the hammer. Run the ads. Your videos are of value. GET PAID! I really do appreciate the time and effort you make to post your videos. I could not imagine having to make a video while I do my job. I would be calling it a pain. Thank you Steve!
When you first upload a video, youtube takes it and chunks it up into different smaller pieces of video in different qualities (360p, 480p, etc) and in different formats (MPEG, MP4, custom ones for iOS, etc). They start sending these out to the CDN where all of us connect to (not the original server hosting the original video). Before the CDN gets all the high quality versions assembled and ready to start distributing, your followers and subscribers can already have the notification of upload. Which means that the higher quality formats are not yet processed completely and delivered to the CDN before users try and start watching the video. They just need to wait and come back and refresh the page after a few minutes to an hour.
It's 5:15am and you go with the "mini-hammering?" That ain't going to get the job done of getting me up and at 'em!! Such a tease. As if I needed another reason to watch, now I am committed if only to hear that luxurious BAM BAM BAM!!!
I am so grateful that I came across your channel, I truly appreciate watching an old world craftsman at work. One of the things that I appreciate the most about watching your videos is that there is NO music. I hate it when documentary type videos have music on them, I would much rather hear what you have to say. I have a tan and a black pair of Florsheim Royal Imperial wing tips, and a black and a tan pair of Allen Edmonds Park Avenue, and one day soon I will begin to send them to you to do a little work on them. Thanks again Steve, I love what you are doing.
Hi,here comes Stevie the second Houdini , you did magics again man,I love your job doing ,I watch your videos second by second dude,I am not talking behind anybody's back , it's just criticism,I watched Brian the bootmaker two videos , I didn't like his job and amongst all shoe repairing shops you are the best,go on man,I am addicted to watch and enjoy your jobs in the early morning and drink my coffee before going to work, good luck dude.
Hi Steve! Thank you to the Pennsylvania viewer who brought you a tripod. We may have less dizzy moments in the future! I'm glad you're getting funded. All my fave RU-vid people are. Oops spoke too soon about camera falling. Do you need some duct tape?
Good grief, Ads help out the RU-vidr you are watching. So quit whining or get RU-vid Prime and be ad free 😉 I don't mind the ads on my favorite YT channels, I know it helps that RU-vidr, so either I support them or I don't, can't have it both ways. Keep doing you Steve. Let's continue.😬
Personally I enjoy your videos for their calm pacing and in-depth insights. I don't even notice the resolution--I just enjoy watching a skilled artisan at work in near real time. The less editing the better!
People people people, please stop complaining. It is not like you are paying to watch his videos. Steve is a professional cobbler, not a professional videographer. What happens when people complain to much? Steve could say screw all of you and stop making content. You should just be happy that Steve is creating videos of what he loves to do. Please be thankful because this is a petty issue to be complaining about. Great work Steve, continue doing what you do best. Fixing leather goods. And Thank You for all the work you do Steve so I can relax and watch a artist.
I just can’t believe there are ppl so upset with little things. I don’t even think in that vein! I don’t car what resolution u record in! I enjoy learning from you. I have a hard time with the trolls on here and just nasty ppl! Remember what ur mom use to say?” If u can’t say something nice....shut-up!...no she said, don’t say anything at all” even though my mom is gone I hear her instructions all the time. Love ur work and dedication sir. Bless u and ur family… up and onward to 200k!
I have learned so much about shoes watching your videos.. You should explain what Shell Cordovan is for those that don't know what animal shell comes from or what part of the animal it is...lol... Also how strong it is..Its a very interesting Leather....... I also can't believe you repaid what Allen Edmonds wouldn't ... This is the type of work ethic that's disappearing in this country.. Keep up the great work. Love the videos.......Bill
Ok I have been following your videos for a while now. I get through about 2-3 videos per night. I applaud your skills, your patience and your answers to the section of your audience who mump and moan about all manner of things. My old grandfather had a saying...Nil illegitimate Carborundum...never let the b#####ds grind you down! Just remember....Let’s Continue! Shine on
I must've watched like ten of your videos in the past three days. You do good work! And I think a lot of people don't realize that we wouldn't even have good videos like this if the person making them wasn't making money with the ads. The amount of time it takes to make the videos can't be justified otherwise. But the content is both informative and entertaining, so anyone making content like that deserves the revenue.
I love the unpolished nature of your videos! I now say 'camera malfunction' if my phone falls over. Your videos are funny and truly you are a master of what you do. It's so fun to watch someone with that much skill do your thing. Your videos are awesome just the way they are.
Great job Steve can't wait to see how my old pair of shell cordovan florsheim 93605 are going to look, I think they are in line for you to tackle them sometime by the end of this month, maybe I'll get lucky and you will make a video about those too.
