Surprised, seeing a pair of American Allen Edmonds, in a British/Scottish cobbler shop. I would imagine, Allen Edmonds are as rare in Britain, as Crockett and Jones are in America. Good to see though. Allen Edmonds doesn't truly compare to British made shoes...but still a well made shoe. All the way from Texas...love your channel.
Thanks ! Yeah these are the only pair I have repaired in 5 years doing this work, so yeah pretty rare to see here. Still a well made shoe, although their quality has gone down in recent years I've heard from my American cobbler friends. Respect to you for watching man! G
You were really close to a few stitches in your hand when you were cutting the stitches in the first sole, another outstanding job professionally carried out by a very talented young guy. I like that scarf you use too so well done 👏

@@UnknownUser-rb9pd I couldn’t imagine Brits paying for Allen Edmonds over the local brands which are all superior in my opinion except Trickers who I hate because my boots squeaked and they refused to fix it. I will say that the factory cork job was pretty impressive except for no shank, I’ve Thursday boots apart with the tiniest uneven cork.
@@jeffreygoss8109 You're probably right. The advantage of AE is their range of widths, up to 10 for some models. Like most US brands they also tend to have a pretty wide range of colours across their range and of course they do a number of specials in Shell Cordovan. Unless somebody was importing a pretty large inventory (which they're not) I don't see any advantage over Loake or Barkers mid ranges across here. I have a few Thursday boots models because they fit me well and again, they have such a wide range of leathers and colours. Their Captain boot for example now has 20 leather and colour combinations. I also have multiple boots from many British makers and my Thursday boots have not been the worst for QC. I also cannot get too precious about boots which are meant to be used in less than ideal conditions and decent cheap(er) boots are generally worry free in rougher conditions.
@@UnknownUser-rb9pd since I’m a standard D I forgot about all the AE sizes.That is a huge thing for A or EEE feet. I wasn’t trying to bad mouth Thursday, they are comfortable and the customer service is second to none, but the cork can be shoddy and there is a lot of foam but they are cheap so a great value. I have one pair and I bought my girlfriend two pairs. My worst experience was with Trickers, paid a pretty dollar and the right shoe squeaked. It was humiliating to wear. And trickers wouldn’t do anything because I had worn them. Well how the hell else am I supposed find they squeak on carpet.

These needed repair, but at least these were not all trashed up as the shoes you usually get to repair. Cool new tool, that heel popper/pry. Really made fast work of the sole and heel block. A lot better then the screw driver. Forgot to mention they look really good. Great for going to a pub on a Saturday night.

Where's the shank? I've never seen a heeled boot like that with no shank. What's keeping the arch area from just collapsing with nothing to support the area that's not in contact with the ground?
Same question….. I wonder if it was to mold to the customers foot since they bought them used on eBay. Maybe Cobbler G wanted to give him a chance to break them in again.
Since it was a pair of shoes bought second hand we want to create a better feeling underneath the foot for the customer with fresh cork this will mold over time to their shape and help with more comfort in the future.
Nice job!! Those Daltons , I thought they had a shank.?? How do those compare in quality to the Loake footwear??? I love the look, ordered some in the walnut, didn’t look right on me...... I was disappointed.
That’s is Allen Edmonds, some have wood, plastic, metal or none. I guess the guy putting in the shanks on the factor line went for a pee. Or maybe they are just cutting costs where you can’t see. I’m guessing a shank could cost 2 or 3 cents.
@@phillipmaciver3226. As well as the £86 quoted in the link above (with return postage ) , I was quoted £75 for a leather sole replacement last year in branch. Things like toe plates will be extra .Ultimately it will depend on the condition of the shoes and what is required.
