Back in 2016 Henry Cole travelled to Elvington to watch genius bike-builder Allen Millyard ride his V10 Viper motorbike in an attempt to reach 200mph. First seen in Series 6 of The Motorbike Show.
I was there about 12 years ago.....traveled from Boston to visit a friend who lives in Warrington. He had a CR-750 replica and a nitrous 250 cc 2 stroke LSR bike. Anyway....get the bikes through tech at which point it pissed down rain for hours and hours. Never turned a wheel. Nice to see a video with the sun shining there and some exotic machinery actually running down the airstrip. If I remember correctly Elvington was designated an emergency landing area for the space shuttle secondary to the length of runway. It was a very large airfield for sure.
I just can't get over Allen - one humble dude, despite his genius. Most ace wrenches are primadonnas - yours truly went through that phase, too - Allen? He wonders what's going on in the kitchen and takes time for the birds and little animals. Loveya Man!
@@stevet5379 Have you see what else Allen Millyard has built ? Reeves etc make some stylish shit but Allen's engineering is several levels up. Bear in mind his day job is a Nuclear Engineer
@@fourutubez7294 For sure, Allens engineering is nothing short of astonishing. I was merely asking if Reeve's bikes had been noticed. I'm a big fan of Millyard cycles, they are built to perfection.
Your either brave or stupid im stupid never gone 180 have gone 150mph but i also can count on 1 finger how manys hours iv spent on road bikes Allan on the other hand is brave
Allen seems like such an unassuming character with more creativity and engineering skill than the whole of the corporate world end on end. What he’s capable of just slays me!
I have to say 'The Great British Shed' really does produce the wildest of engineering projects and I love it. Alan you should let Guy Martin wring its neck you two together would be quite something, maybe you could take Guy's spitfire engine and make something crazy with it !!
First I think Allen has balls of steel to ride at that speed and l was disappointed that he didn’t get the 200 mph but we did have the Bonus of having Henry Cole with him these two great gentlemen l love to see together great video thanks chaps 👏👏👍😊
Okay first Sir Allen has to be crazy, or or forward thinking to suggest a Dodge Viper V10 is a sound power plant for a motorcycle..then Sir Allen has to have the amazing talent of engineering and fabrication.. and and then Sir Allen must have the Grand Balls of Steel to take it up to those intense weed-out the men from the boys speeds! Phew😅 Thank you Allen you’re amazing.
He isn’t the first. Dodge made a bike with the v10 and many others have as well. Just bc no one has done it on your side of the pond doesn’t mean it hasn’t been done here multiple times.
@@montynohtyp157 That real Dodge made viper bike thing with the four tires is crazy, awesome full custom concept. Yeah, lot's of people truly believe if they didn't think of it and haven't seen it it couldn't possibly have been done before, doesn't matter what side of the pond your from, f you've been told everyone is equal and nobody can be better than one another at anything but athletics and stage entertainment your going to think that your ideas are the same as everyone else's and nobody can think of anything better. A viper engine in a bike is no stretch of imagination to anyone that knows the diversity of past motorcycle designs, the Millyard Viper bike is basically another version of the mass produced Boss Hoss, just using a v10 instead of a v8 of the same basic design just with 2 extra cylinders.
@@montynohtyp157 If you know, you know...! Allen does it all himself in his shed at home though, big difference there to Dodge. If you haven't watched his vids, it's definitely worth checking out, seeing him chop engines up and making bigger ones out off them is just amazing.
@@HalfdeadRider thank you, the one person who understands I’m just complementing a talented person who also isn’t afraid to take his own creation to top speeds 180+ Also I was trying to be a tad funny, which apparently I’m not too good at😅 also also thought I should’ve mentioned I knew about all those other bikes, but that wasn’t really the point. Again thank you 🙏
Alen is one of those guys that come around very infrequently so I fully understand your starstruckness around him Henry, but you are top bloke too mate :)
I wonder what Allen and Guy Martin could create between. Both wonderfully eccentric gentlemen that know their stuff and whose time I'd love to spend with - just to absorb their knowledge. Thanks Henry for the upload.
Millyard is a brilliant fellow. It's such fun to see each of his creations. That V-Twin with the Airplane cylinders is simply amazing! Then there's the Velocette V-Twin and........and.......
I remember seeing the late E J Potter race his small block V8 powered bike at Blackbushe back in the sixties. Revved it up on the stand, then rocked it off and smoked the tyre all of the quarter mile…….Insane. Watch him on RU-vid and be amazed
The Millyard V10 VIPER has to go to Bonneville, that's the only place on earth that can show it's the fastest STREET ABLE motorcycle. ALLEN I SALUTE YOU!
Sometimes the best craftsmen are teetering on the edge of genius, while at the same time being humble and reserved. Just a genuine guy, pursuing a passion, without the jewellery, tattoos or bandanas, like the in your face pretenders in other countries.
My mate's sat on that bike. It was at a bike show, NEC Birmingham I think, on the Carole Nash insurance stand. There were no signs saying don't sit on it so I told my mate to go for it. Sorry Allen.
You’re a Master! A genius….and.. I loved the hedgehog show down! Never seen that before. I salute you Sir! 600 kilos!!!!!!? Scary. Had a Harley crush my ribs once a long time ago…too confident a showing off….though that bike was heavy!! Amazing..
All of Allen's bikes look like they were factory made, The Flying Millyard look like it was made in the FIAT factory alongside the Beast of Turin. And the Viper bike looks like it was made by Dodge as a marketing exercise, with help from Lotus and Laverda. Allen and Henry did decide to go for the two up record, and they did break the record!
About 14 years ago I took a supercharged busa to Elvington. Most people who have owned a litre sports bike have done 180 mph but that last 20 mph? Jeez it was weird, because of the width of the runway you don't have the same concept of speed that you do on the road, (that might just be me?) Anyway, I did a couple of runs, 180ish to get the feel of it on the runway then on my 3rd I went for it 199.9. I was gutted one tenth of a mile an hour off 200! Then jarrod frost did a run, 224mph! It started raining then so I went home!
And people go on about the dodge tomahawk doing 300mph, what a load of nonsense, this is basically the same thing, without aerodynamics 200mph is the max. But what a true gentleman and hats off to him, it must be a real handful to control.
Way back in the day in my early 30s I ran 189mph in my built GSXRR 750 and that was wot with nothing more.. I'd hoped for 190 +... Won't ever get that chance again now that I'm a fresh 57 ... But if I could..
That's pretty cool! Surprised it did not go faster though. Did 192mph on a stock motor zx10r at a similar official event. Just had exhaust, tune and gearing.
I'm of the opinion that 182 mph is a terrific speed for a bike with little or no aerodynamics. There isn't in place to hide and the radiator has to catch a lot of air. I was surprised when he said it would got 200 mph. I've been close to 200 mph on a bike with lessor horsepower but much better aerodynamics and it is hard. Hats off for the speed and the courage and skill to run it that fast.👍👍
