Not for everyone - Every 5 to 10 feet, I stopped and if need made an adjustment to the trailer. Always had the left - Used the Right to Keep it on time going into the Alley.
This is a GREAT VIDEO! Last time I messed up on my set up and hit the boundary line but this time I’m gonna get it in Jesus name! All Glory to God. Thanks Trucker Steve for your extremely informative videos. Keep helping us man
@@truckerstevecdlinstructorcan you just teach me how to do 45 and 90 degree I will pay you just two weeks teacher I have cdl A class but I’m not good duck parking
@@yahyajama591 Sorry I cannot do training. No longer an instructor- work for a private trucking company. Where are you located? There are trainers in most states who will do one on one training. Do a google search.
I oversteer soo much and this helped me understand what it looks like when I do at certain angles and what it means to “ chase the trailer” when it gets away from you. My dad and trainer kept saying “ chase the trailer” and i did NOT know when or why i should be doing it. This was a great video. Out of all the videos i watched your made me understand the concept of backing
Thanks Trucker Steve, this is a common sense real look and steer it in way that I can understand. Much better than most school taught mechanical robot hope and poke test failures if sheer luck is not with you.
I feel like if I can't demonstrate the concept correctly or master my setup. It will be a lot of unnecessary corrections. Thanks for this video Mr. Steve. I finally see what my issues are on the alley dock. I have been hitting n missing on the range everyday. But, having patience is the key needed on my end. I appreciate you! &Thanks again
Yes , many CDL Students oversteer. This video may be of help - slow down! I teach my students not to oversteer and be in control of the trailer. CDL students are not all trained in the same manner.
Man I'm confused, in school they told me the only time I would make a right turn, is at the very beginning when I'm getting my trailer in the angle, I thought turning right would move you away from the cone on the left. When I did my test I was in a stuck position where I couldn't figure out how to move my tires away from the cone on the left, so I turned the wheel to the right and the tires moved away from the cone, from there I was able to get my truck lined up..but in this video you made a few Right turns and that brought you closer to the cone 😵💫.. I need help understanding how turning the steering wheel to the right brings you closer to the cone vs taking you away from the cone. In class I made my first initial hard right, then straight wheel, hard left was the rest of the maneuvers until I got stuck
@@eyecyallcnme3197 90 degree alley dock. First move is your setup - Steering wheel to the Right. Back up a short distance. Next - steering wheel back to back straight and back up about 10 feet Now it’s time to Think 🤔 Where is the trailer heading? You are the Boss of the Trailer - you must make the correct decisions with your steering wheel to control the trailer movement. ( I like to be close to the left cone ) Practice and practice until your motor skills kicks 🦵 in.
its a shame that they dont require you to alley dock during your cdl test anymore in california at least. i passed my cdl test and i now struggle with this due to not being taught in school
Steve I just found your teachings let me say I been driving for 8 months I am using your technique from here on out..your the best teacher and you can hear the compassion you have for us newbies., can you do a 45 degree angle video if you have not already done so.. 😊😊😊
Hopefully soon on the 45 degree but that like the offset. So when we alley dock, the driver may be at a 45 degree angle when backing into the dock. Thank you for your kind words. This week we have rain but I plan to do more backing videos. ASAP
Thank you so much! You are awesome!! You are the goat of trainers! This the video i needed! It finally all came together! I did this today and it worked! I will keep trying this method til i get better! Thanks for the gems!! 😊😊😊
@@truckerstevecdlinstructoryes the goat hands down! Goat stands for the greatest of all time! Yes sir you definitely help new drivers learn the techniques to back a trailer!
Well man that not the right way you have to much room man. I never teach that way you give them a parking lot to do a 90 degrees backing most of the time you don't have that extra place I teach my guy to back in the wood road where you don't have that room and I have some ditch and soft spot the trailer juste fit inside that small road so sorry but you need to show them the reality as well man
@@jasonadrienlizotte5466 I show my students every angle on how to back a trailer . This video is for students who are having issues or keep falling the 90 degree alley dock. If the student is proficient in their 90 degrees backing skills- then this video is not for them. Thank you for sharing your opinion.
Can u please do a blind side backing video? I just discovered your channel and i would really love to see you do a instructional video about blind side backing
It’s better to hung your driver side then pull up straighten it up that be 1 maybe 2 pull-ups of most in truck stops they going be cursing you out doing it this way no offense 😂
Always a 45 degree or straight line back is best. This video is for those who must take a CDL test for alley Dock or have no choice but to do a 90 degree back. Thank you for your comment. No offense taken.
The lower left rear trailer wall. Also paying attention to left tires on the trailer. Please view the many alley docking videos and hopefully you will learn the concept. Best to you on your journey.
I love it every time I can accomplish this maneuver without pulling up. Going nice and slow and making a lot of small adjustments. I alley dock 4 times a shift so I get a lot of practice.
Some Students are testing next week and are still having problems with the Alley Dock. This is not for everyone but going slow with small backs and using the Right to keep the trailer on time into the Alley.
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor All of the students just need to relax and don't pressure themselves. Go slow, be careful and use the options available to get it done. You are an amazing teacher. The students are lucky to have you.
