This video is about a large gathering of alligators at Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive near Winter Garden, FL. They were gathered in the pond at the old pump house on Lake Apopka. We counted 71 but I know there were a lot of them we didn’t see. I estimate between 75-100 alligators were in and around this one large pond. It is a phenomenon I have never seen before. It is rare to see this many gators in one place. At least I have never seen it before in all my wonderings through wetlands for many years. I hope you enjoy it.

Great video!I was there that evening and couldn't believe the amount of gators. Nor did I have the ability to capture it. Thank you for sharing!

I enjoyed your video Mr. Scott. Living much further North of you in Canada, we do not see any alligators outdoors, except perhaps at a zoo! Your still shot compositions are also well done! Tom

lenord227 - Thank you very much. I thought it was very unusual to see that many gators in one place and wanted to share it with others. I was born and raised in Florida and that was the first time I had seen that many. When I'm out in some of the wetlands I go to I'll see a dozen or more during the day but not over 70 in one spot. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.

Must be a good place for food and see that many alligators in that particular lake.

Freptboy - It is a good place for gators but that was very unusual. I went back the next weekend and there were only a few. Like 4 or 5 that we could see and that is about normal. If you look for them there are a lot of gators in the wetlands but nothing like the day I took these photos. I have never seen that many gators gathered in that small of an area. It was fun. Thanks for watching.

ok...alligators they tend to move to other lakes if there something that attract them. I've been to that lake before to watch the alligators.

I think there was a lot of food in the lake that day, for whatever reason, and that is what attracted them. That many gators can go through a lot of food pretty quickly. I think when the food was gone they all left and spread out through the wetlands again.

I grew up on this chain of lakes. My grand parents owned Idle Wilde fish camp in Hernando. It was a paradise

Stephen Scott - It is such a shame that it was destroyed and that killed a lot of businesses and livelihoods. It has a long way to go and will never be the same but it has come a long ways. Did you watch my other video on Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive? Thanks for watching.

Yes I did. It made me sick to see what was a wonderful place be destroyed. I’m all for farmers and other businesses making a living and using some of the resources, but leave as you found it or better

wow... Are they moving from the lake to lake all the time?
@RCScottPhotography
@RCScottPhotography 6 лет назад
TAPP Channel - No, this was a rare occurrence. There are alway alligators in this area but rarely in this number. I suspect there was a food source concentrated in this pond and that is what brought them into such a small body of water. That is just my own theory. I went back the following week and there were just the normal number you generally see in this area. Thanks for watching.

I would have been terrified. I have seen an alligator or 2 but lake filled. Omg. I stress level would have exceeded normal levels and would have left the scene immediately.

Alligators are generally not an issue unless you do something stupid like getting real close for a selfie. They don’t attack people like a crocodile will. The only time they can be more dangerous is when you get close to their babies. Just use common sense and keep your distance and they will never bother you. Even with a hundred alligators like I had that day I was in no danger. It was quite a spectacular sight. You don’t see that many in one small area like that very often. I was born and raised in Florida and that was the first time I had seen that many gators in one small pond. Just remember that any body of water in Florida can have gators so be careful when you are around ponds, lakes or rivers. By the way, gator attacks on humans is very rare but it can be fatal if you are attacked. Just be vigilant when you’re around the edge of the water. Thanks for watching.

Right in my neighborhood on lake apopka there’s this gator that live in the storm drain has never came out but I know you count the inches from the nose to the eyes and truly I know they caught a 17 footer like 32 years ago but this beast has to atleast be 18 ft like no joke the size of its massive I have videos and pictures of the beast as well would just love to see the size of this beautiful creature one day I know it’s schedule will always come to the front of the storm drain but just his head and mouth always around 7:45 pm 8:00 pm but will never come out the drain until 10:30 ish only seen him once out the drain and that was during Irma so who knows the size of this beast now still never leaves that storm drain only comes to the front with his eyes like honestly when you see just the eyes of the beast you would assume it was a hippo it’s massive

Florida is the same way. I wouldn’t even take video or pictures of them but people that don’t live where we do seem to love seeing them. I had a small 3 foot gator as a pet when I was a kid and thought nothing of it. Doesn’t everybody have a pet gator? 😃. Thanks for watching.

I don’t think that would be a good idea even if it wasn’t against the rules. They don’t allow pets for the same reason. They don’t want them to become snacks. Thanks for watching.

If you walk into the water n swim to the other side will any of these alligators attack you? Not a chance. They may get close but that's about it.
