Just brought the 200 out for a winter start on a nice day. February 12, 2024. Unusually nice for SE Minnesota.

I agree any allis chalmers tractor like a 200 allis runs alot better than a green tractor

Great tractor. I have the 200XT. Don’t have the tilt steering, wish it did. I use with my round baler and really like the functionality of the combination.

Must be another model. 190XT? There is no 200XT. All 190, 190XT and 200 tractors have tilt steering. No 190 has telescoping steering and most if not all 200 tractors have telescoping steering. A 190Xt is a good tractor too.

@raymiller9391 Allis advertised the 200 at 93 hp. They didn't test it at Nebraska Test facilities, I think because the 200 was supposed to be a short-term production, and it was basically a beefed up 190XT, which tested at 93 hp. From reading about Allis Chalmers in books written by a former employee, the 200 tested closer to 110 hp when tested by Allis Chalmers itself. When I worked at an Allis dealership back in the 90s, the older employees told me that they never tested a new 200 that had less than 110 hp with the exception of one that somehow gotten a 185 pump installed on it. Allis Chalmers quickly rectified that situation. The 7010 was supposed to start production in 1973 to replace the 200 but that was delayed because of costs, and the 200 was produced into 1975 and then was replaced with the 7000, which was an updated 200 with new tin. The 7010 didn't get produced until about 1979.

Thanks for your reply silver gleaner, always liked the AC tractors and equipment. Shame they aren’t made any more. Back in the 70,s I knew of a freightliner that had an Allis chalmers engine. It was a stout engine.

@raymiller9391 A purple Big AL? 844 cubic displacement. There were smaller engines used in over the road applications, but Big Al was the legend. Lack of dealerships along interstates killed that venture.

I know it really doesn't matter, but a NAPA 1795 oil filter is taller/longer and will do a little better job of filtering the oil. They fit just fine. I've used them for years. Nice 200, good luck with it. I can tell it has been split at one time because of the "Hose" connection on the hydraulic suction tube just behind the rear oil filter. Mine's the same way. There's no way around it when splitting.

When I worked at the Allis dealer a few years back in the early 90s, we never cut that tube. Honestly, I don't remember how we split them, but we never cut that tube. I'll have to take a look to see if I can remember.

BTW you can use the same filters as the 7000 series uses that are longer. Both are listed in the book, and I've used both. AGCO filters are Wix, which are what NAPA filters and AGCO is cheaper to buy.

I forgot, I've dissected several filters a while back. Some NOS filters from Cenex, some Baldwin, Wix, Fram, AGCO, and Purolator. Baldwin and Cenex were best built with Baldwin being best, IMHO. Wix wasn't far behind. Fram was the poorest, but I didn't have the high-end filter from Fram. Anyhow, Baldwin had more pleats than the rest. It's just a very good filter.
