I recall when Octavia Spencer would take non-credited, non-speaking roles simply to get her foot in the door. I ALWAYS noticed her. In “Drag Me To Hell,” she played a bank employee. She had zero lines, and was not in the credits, but she’s more famous now than ANYONE in that movie. As Allison Janney said, “Not only has she opened the doors for others, but she’s pulled her friends through that door as well.” CONGRATULATIONS, Octavia! WELL DONE! 💜
one of those rare actors (much like Allison), who takes a character and injects that role into her DNA....that IS NOT easy to do, even if you are a professional actor..because it calls for you to make yourself COMPLETELY transparent and vulnerable to the truths and needs of that character. And that can be extremely uncomfortable, even for the best actors out there. Her role as "Minny" in The Help, was particularly impressive...and 'Minny' brought out emotion in me that was always there, but I rarely let it be seen...because like Octavia, I KNOW MINNY...I have "Minnys" in my family..especially the ones that reside in the South. Minny is your Aunt, your Momma, your next door neighbor and your co-worker. And she's the best cook and the best friend, in town. The World NEEDS more Minnys.
