The 1st wheel is normal alloy wheel paint from the factory, .... The second wheel has about 9 coats of Powder Coating on it, ... As you can see, this paint stripper just strips it no problem ;-)
i stripp wheels at work for powder coating and we use a 200 liter tank with cellulose thinners works just as good as that if not better.it dosent really strip it it just softens it makes it easyer for blasting
my cheap aftermarket wheels look like chrome, but it's peeling, and need them stripped. Beleive its powder coating that is polished then clear coated. what stripper works on these?
He posted about this on a forum claiming he used something called "Gardostrip 7909." Chemetall Oakite makes a stripper called Gardostrip Q7900A, so I imagine it is that or something similar. They classify it as a Non-Methylene Chloride stripper, and according to specs it works best between 140-180 degrees F. He says it contains Methanol & Hydrofluoric Acid.
AT EVERYBODY IN RU-vid WORLD....... Does or will CAUSTIC SODA/LYE/ SODIUM HYDROXIDE do the same for stripping paint off alloys, how long should a wheel be left in the solution
Does anyone ever have an issue using B17. I am have difficulty with several of the wheels that we are trying to strip. For example, I can put a wheel in and the paint comes off perfectly and then the next one has to sit in the acid for two hours. Does anyone know of a stronger product than B17?
NO - it only attaches to bare metal. Don't use this crap because when it does chip it's like a cancer on your part because the chip will grow and grow and grow. The ONLY reason companies use that shit is because it's cheap and even a 6th grader can put it on. Look at any Bobcat skid loader that's newer than 1995!!!! I wouldn't buy anything that's power coated. It sucks.
rod builder i own a powder coating company and yes powder coat is not indestructible however it is extremely durable and takes allot of prep work so if the powder coat is chipping or flaking off it , this is because of insufficient prep work or over baking . If you want something tougher then try www.cerakoteguncoatings.com/ this is a ceramic based product and is also available in a high tep paint for exhaust
+chick hughson Hi Chick, Does or will CAUSTIC SODA/LYE/ SODIUM HYDROXIDE do the same for stripping paint off alloys, how long should a wheel be left in the solution
chick hughson I was asking because you say you own a powder coating business, the caustic soda/lye/sodium hydroxide are ALL the same thing just different names for them according to where you live in the world. Ok, what do you use to remove paint from alloys
I don't know what he used but look for a product called ZYNOLITE. That stuff is WICKED. Don't even think about getting it on your skin or eyes. Walmart used to sell it and it even comes in spray cans!
Powder coating alloy wheels can make them more resistant to rust and other elements. Thanks for sharing. BTW a great powder coating company I have to recommend is - mrkservices.co.uk
