It's hard to believe how accomplished this young lady is at 16 (?). She composes, plays violin and piano, does all the orchestration, conduct, choreographs dances and herself dances beautifully, has a wonderful singing voice and is very intelligent, humble and growing into a beautiful woman.

Actually this is a shortened version of the "Siren Sounds Waltz." The original is actually a series of four waltzes. The complete work is about 15 minutes long. What was performed on this occasion was the introduction, the first waltz and the finale. You can see the unabridged version on RU-vid in her concert from Carnegie Hall with the Orchestra of St. Luke's. The Salzburg State Opera is currently featuring Alma's opera "Cinderella." They have also commissioned her to compose an opera especially for them which will probably be premiered in 2022. The Vienna State Opera has also performed a shortened version of "Cinderella" for children. Alma Deutscher is currently 16 yrs old.

Indeed, both the full version of "Sirenenklänge Walzer" and this performance are absolutely wonderful! The introduction alone is one of the most ingenious and original in the whole history of the waltz. All four dance sections and coda are unspeakably beautiful. Alma's music is immersed in the best tradition of the classic Viennese waltz and at the same time her style is completely individual. Without a doubt, none of the earlier "waltz kings" composed such a fantastic waltz in their youth.

@@pa1189j And out of all of them I think Alma was the only one to perform her own composition. Many can play these kinds of pieces but it seems very few still know how to create this kind of stuff. This is what sets Alma above the rest. With Alma, it's almost like she was born this way. Has anyone ever really taught her anything? It just seems to come out of nowhere. Her perfect pitch, Improvisational skills, and the very unique way in which she creates music are something very special.

@@Robbie.Dunbar To be fair, Alma wasn’t part of the competition. She’s a true prodigy. A term very often loosely applied. It remains to be seen if she will become a ‘great’ composer in her lifetime or, like many before her, will have to wait until later to be fully appreciated.

I consider Alma Deutscher to be one of the most creative and brilliant artists today and for all time. At a very young age she has proven to be an incredible performer who has basically mastered both the violin and the piano to an astounding degree but her playing has a depth and maturity that is not present in most of the young prodigy virtuosos. She seems not to have an ego and just appears to be a very natural performer. Maybe the most incredible thing about Alma is her beautiful original works. Her composing and orchestrations are extraordinary and totally fresh and original. She has something to say that is powerful and always lyrical and everything of hers has a beauty and a natural musical appeal that is remarkable. I consider myself very fortunate to have heard her in performance at her Carnegie Hall debut concert. She is a wonderful talent in so many ways and I love her artistry. God Bless you, Alma and may you keep growing and creating into your 90s and beyond!!!

@@pa1189j Artists have to face all sorts of challlenges. For instance, as Kapelmeister, Bach had for many years of his life to come up with a new composition every Sunday, and Sundays never took a vacation. As for rehashing music, I think a lot of composers did it for fun, perhaps more than commercial imperatives. I am thinking for example of Schubert, who would compose a masterpiece string quartet, and then find that the theme of the first movement would make a marvelous lied, which indeed became a masterpiece known as the Trout. Alma herself has at least three different versions of her opera Cinderella. With the Waltz Siren, the full version was quite interesting at the Carnegie Hall. But I thought this version reduced to the single siren theme and with a different orchestration and violon soloist, is a different and lovely piece of work, which Alma probably had much pleasure working on and performing herself as soloist.

(Know your sources) making a fuss over a 5 year old prodigy is okay, but even Mozart was expected to mature.
