It was 56 years ago today when Soviet Union Premier Nikita Khrushchev departed for Moscow following a whirlwind 13-day visit to the United States. Khrushchev's trip was an effort by both countries to ease Cold War tensions, but as it happened, not everything was "okay" during his tour. Charles Osgood reports.

Despite all flaws Nikita Sergeyevich was the best Soviet leader in my opinion He was responsible for Soviet Space programme He improved relations with Tito and Yugoslavia He saved the world from nuclear apocalypse during 1962 He was very supportive of my country's independence and sovereignty Stalin/Beria's victims were given justice under him

I had a little bit of trouble understanding, but that's okay. It wasn't just America. It was the people of the Motherland herself that helped stop the CCCP. Unfortunately Communism isn't dead, it still lives on in China, but it's my hope that perhaps Russia will come to her senses and band together with America and join the Free World in putting a stop to Communism once and for all. China, Vietnam, North Korea, Cuba, et cetera.
