My water heater faulted yesterday, so I went to RU-vid with the make and model to seek advice, and to my amazement, who should I see but our man Geo with a video from 9 years ago walking me through the repair. Another great video, I like all your videos. When I got my first safety razor as a gift I thought I'll never have to buy another cartridge again, I'll save money on blades, and I did. Then I started watching your reviews on razors, I'm up to six now and looking for two more and possibly a straight razor! So thanks for your time and effort in bringing us these videos to watch!

@@geofatboy yep!! I've got that!! I started out to find the right razor and blade combination and that would be it. I have 21 razors now, 23 different makes of blade and I still want a •72 Razorock Lupo. Can't get them here in England at the moment. Stay safe all, Dave.

Jazzed to see this video. Just ordered this razor less than a week ago along with a bunch of other stuff. Havent had the chance to see it yet as I'm a driver working my way home where I have a few packages from shave nation waiting for me at a friend's place. I learned from Geo how to shave with a strait on the road with a truck stop strait razor and looking forward to high quality equipment. This will be my first time off the truck in months because of all the crap thats been going on so. Looking forward to a great shave and then I'm going fishing. Learned everything from your videos.... your fantastic. Thanks for making life easier.

Your straight razor shaving videos are not only instructive, but also motivating. This one is no exception. I'd like to make a suggestion using the Spartacus razor as the example. I would really like to see how you prepare the Spartacus for shaving by including the stropping aspect of the razor as part of the shaving video itself. Perhaps even as a prequel video (or Part 1) it would be interesting to see you prepare this razor - again, as an example - to be shave-ready honing the razor or whatever you typically do to prepare your straight razors for shaving. They would be companion videos and illustrative of the prep leading up to the shave itself. As an fyi, my goal this year is to shave with a straight razor. I've been using a DE for a long time, and enjoy the ritual of shaving. Thank you for these great videos. - Dave Daniel, Fullerton, CA

A couple of years ago, in going through my late mother’s things, I came across my great grandfather’s straight razor. I self-educated myself (including through your videos!), invested in a good strop, brush, and other accessories, and started learning technique for my weekend shaves. The edge was still good and it was very nostalgic to shave with it!!! ... I’m happy to say that I still have both ears, nose, and no scars! ;-) in fact, while I have had some nicks, I never had anything significant. ... So, now I’m looking at investing in a new straight razor and while I have a general idea of the size and possibly brand, I am unsure of the pros and cons of the various end profiles (round, dreadnaught, etc.). ... could you do a video on that to help me and others with similar questions? Thanks!!!

I would get a 6/8" blade or something so it has a little weight to it and it won't skip over your face if you're just starting out. And also a round or a square point is a little easier to shave with than for example a Spanish point that flairs out. I've got a Böker Damascus steel 6/8" blade with a square point and ebony scales and it works great.

Strange how they call it 6 8ths, which is 3/4". I always thought these shaved in one pass Geo or is that just when a barber is shaving you? I wouldn't dare try a straight razor but watching you is amazing! Another great video! Stay safe, Dave.

It all depends on who's doing it and how good their technique is. I've seen barbers do it in one pass while others do it in 2 or three. Personally, I don't mind the experience taking longer. 3 applications of cream and hot towels is just so relaxing, and better than one!

Thanks so much Geo!! That Spartacus is a lovely razor; definitely a must-have for die-hard aficionados! I have a vintage TI Eagle, something you could consider a “sister” or “cousin” to this baby. It’s got the same point and spine detailing; just no gold etching, and red scales instead of black. But it’s also a great shaver! Btw, when you touch up your straights, which stone do you hit first?

I have the hardest time “switchhitting“. It seems like I can’t shave with my left so I shave everything with my right hand. Do you have a video on how to properly switch hit, or one where you just use the same hand for the whole face? I’m apprehensive on trying it because of the way it feels when I attempt with my non-dominant hand, uneasy and shaky. Thanks, keep up the great work!

Geo, not sure where to post this, but can you discuss pros and cons of a stainless steel vs a carbon steel razor? I'm mostly asking about maintenance of the razor over time. Hey geo. The hair on my face grows down on the cheeks. Up on the neck and sideways on the jaw bone. Therefore i can’t shave with the grain no matter what i do and always get irritated and ingrown hair even tho i use safety razor. Derby blades and tob cream.

Yes-it is. This is my personal razor which is about 10 years old. It's due for a touch up soon! The new ones come all wrapped up in a sealed box.

I have acne scars from when I was a teenager. I'm 58 now and wouldn't want to try it. I think it would be difficult enough on a smooth face. I have to be quite careful DE shaving. Dave.

I bought two straight razor from your website a Dovo and the Spartacus. I really in love with the Spartacus you can be done in one pass if you want have’s a great balance. The Dovo is good as well I’ll recommended for any beginner it’s light so you might need to put some work to get that BBS with the Spartacus you can get that BBS effortlessly

I bought one like it in 1999, it's my favorite because the blade is quite unique. 6/8" Eagle with Stamina wood scales. I'm tempted by Spartacus, but they are too similar. Buy it and you won't regret it.
