Anyone that metal detects remembers the oldest coin they’ve found. They’ll remember exactly where they found it too, almost within inches of where the hole they dug was. I remember finding my first old coin way back when I first started detecting. It was an 1898 Indian head cent and you could have seen the hair standing up on my arms from a football field away. Throughout the years I would go on to break my record for oldest coin over and over again. Each time I did I would stare proudly at my new record holder and think to myself, “this is gonna be a tough one to beat”.
Well fast forward to today and we’re back detecting a new section of our incredibly old Hammered Cob field. A field that has already broken the all-time record for oldest coin, not only for me, but for every single one of us! But today…, oh man today! Not only were old coin found all over this section, but one of us digs up a coin so old that even the earliest settlers would have stared at it in amazement! Hold on to your hats as we shatter a record that may never be beaten, as we start roamin’ around our most amazing field ever!
