After watching this video i feel a whole lot better about buying my 2012 silverado ltz z71 with 118,000 miles. Previous owner bought brand new in texas till i got a hold of it. No rust, super clean all round interior as well
@southerndesperado3607
@southerndesperado3607 2 года назад
It's never a bad idea to buy a vehicle with higher mileage as long as it's been taken care of. Just have a mechanic inspect it first. If you take care of it, it'll take care of you! Anything over 200k I'd be very wary of (unless it's a diesel or toyota). Being a 2012 with that kinda mileage, I'd say you got a great reliable truck, especially if it has the 5.3! Those are supposedly million mile engines
@KF1
@KF1 2 года назад
@@southerndesperado3607 That's what I did. Took a used 2011 to my mechanic and had him Try to find something wrong with it. Worst he came back with was " there's some minor cracking in the belt. Looks like the original". "So...Does it need to be replaced?" "No." 2 years later has been top notch every day. Only 100,000 miles and I just changed all the fluids. Diffs, trans, brake fluid, power steering, coolant etc. I have the 4.8L. The 5.3L is the same engine with longer stroke making the difference in displacement. Some years have issues with the Active Fuel Management system (worth noting the 4.8L doesn't have AFM, so one less thing known to go wrong)

I take a sprayer and coat the underside with oil to prevent rust on mine. Can use mineral oil if worried about the smell. Difference between oil and rubber guard is that water can't get trapped between, so works better than undercoating imo, though has to be applied every year.

These trucks deactivate 4 cylinders when in 6th gear and run on only 4 cylinders to save gas. A government epa crap that of course had tons of issues and caused expensive repair bills. You can drive in manual 5 gear or plug in the range thingy to deactivate it. Helps reliability a ton. Lots of people had lifter failure as early as 30k miles

Today I found a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 v8, for $11,000, which is so cheap because it has 240,000 miles, the interior is dirty and the paint around the bed and taillights is all scraped up as well as some minor rust. Is it dumb to consider this truck, if I got it, I would clean it up, change all fluids and maintain it religiously

DMD 1 I wondered that, it looks like someone really used it, it’s looks like it has 250,000, I just prefer the 2014-15 models over the 07-13, so when I saw it I wondered, otherwise I’m gonna buy another listing of a 08, with 138,000 that has been very well kept and maintained

So i dont have to worry about the tick?
@dmd1285
@dmd1285 3 года назад
I didn’t stress about it too much. These engines are cheap and easy to put in and there’s a ton of them. I tried looking at this truck as a big company would. Don’t fix it until it actually breaks. I did enough preventative stuff before tearing into the motor and wasting all that money. Just drive it until it breaks then address the issue. It would’ve costed the same to put a new motor in versus tearing into it and replacing the lifters. That’s if it even needed them
