+UAVFutures - What do you have now Stew - are you still a Red Bottoms (S) man? I've tried some taller stators - 2207s and 2407s and they feel pretty torquey but I've also mainly been rockin' them on 6".
Hey Stew, one thing I've noticed is a well tuned quad accelerates much faster than a quad that is suffering with low i term and too high p term. Adjust those a bit then give them another try

I can't believe Grumpy Trev found that battery! I had a GoPro fly off my quad in to about a foot of weeds and it took me an hour to find... Keep the great videos coming :)
I'm amazed by your findings. I have 2x ZMR 210R quads that are identical, one running original red bottoms, other running white top 2400s and the difference in power low and high end is massive. I'm using Cyclone 5046 props with R-Line 4s 1500 packs which definitely makes a difference. Looking forward to trying the new setup on 5s..
Have you ever thought about attaching a Tile or similar key ring locator on a quad? They are very light and ping your bluetooth to your cell phone for up to 300ft and chime and can gps too.
Took me a while to find my quad down there today, but I didn't even get it stuck in that grass stuff! Just landed the opposite way to what I thought from the video, pointing at a tree.
I have been flying these for awhile and i would agree that these motors does not feel much faster using the same type of props. But these motors you need to use the 5051 props either from EMAX Avant or Racecraft. Couple more things to note. The magnets on the 2306 can run much hotter and the protective coating on the windings also offer better protection.
This is excellent advice. I've got a set of 2306/2400KV on a quad and they felt fine but nothing spectacular on Cyclone 5046s. But then the Avan R5s I pre-ordered came in, and wow does this thing wake up with those. I suspect the more aggressive 5050 Cyclones might be a good match as well in case you can't find the Avans, but a more aggressive prop generally is a better match for this motor IMO. Full disclosure: I fly freestyle and don't do any kind of racing, so YMMV.
try it with the emax avan props please. also the quad made a bit of a oscillation sound on some punch outs. but thats probably because the props can not handle the power.
Egi FPV totally agree - you can hear the fluttering of the props at high revolution, not stiff enough, Joshua Bardwell also did a video on prop stiffness, Stu, get some avan props and redo this, please!
Hi Stu, Big fan of your channel. I have a suggestion for these motors. It seems that these have a lot more torque but with your light looking build it seems overkill. Perhaps transplant it in an aggressive pitch 6 inch heavier build and perhaps it'll shine. Maybe the high KV one is intended for 5 inch
I'm trying out the 2750kv version with 5" tri props they're absolutely nuts but need to use at least 1500mah batts. They make for much heavier builds which always fly a bit 'porky'....
Hey Stew I totally agree with you I bought 3 sets of those emax 2306 motors in both 2400kv and 2750kv and I am really disappointed with them they absolutely kill my batteries and I got a ton of vibrations on stock tune I tried soft mounting the motors and flight controller which did help but not as smooth as I'd like I also tried the new emax avan props that were designed for this motor and they handle prop wash great but lack top end speed I think the Gemfan 5152 props work the best with these motors
45 percent of pilots in my multigp chapter use these motors. we all love them, theyre super powerful but really suck down the amps. you have to use very aggressive props to really notice the difference
You really need to put those Motors on a really light quad. I had them on a quad that was only 238 grams and it was like a rocket, it had a ton of thrust. now I have it on the leopard which is 100 grams heavier and it feels like that thrust is gone gone now.
it's a bigger motor ... so in order to see better performance you will need a bigger prop or a more aggressive one stew try them with the emax-avan prop ... shpuld be much better
Just a noobs opinion, but as far as I am led to believe, the whole 2305/6 thing is not about top speed or punch-outs but about low-end torque for more precision freestyle flying rather than racing. I have the original 2205 red-bottoms on one quad and these 2306 on another and love both, but my flying improved with the 2306 as I felt better control at lower throttles as I don't do much racing, more freestyle.
right now im using the dal5040R. dont like them that much but it is what it is. i have a couple sets of the avan R emax props on the way. goodluck with your quad thanks for responding. BTW i just sub'd to your channel you should check me out too.
yeah have used them, I found them alright but have recently been on the kingkongs (because they're cheap!) which are not bad. They're all just very soft but as you say it is what it is. Have tried many different props; the azure (strange boomerang shaped ones) which I liked but too expensive, the racerstar 5048's were recommended to me by a good friend - they are good, nice and cheap but fairly amp hungry in my humble opinion but good punch and control. Just been and watched a couple of yours, need to try the reverse split-s just haven't had the balls to try it yet but gonna have to do it now! LoL (sub on it's way).
Stew, you didn't even cover how friendly/unfriendly to batteries they are? Too quick a review, but then again, perhaps we need s freestyler to review them...maybe call in Snake for the freestyle stuff! This review gets a canyonracer score of 5...only because I love you guys!
My nicest quad has the standard red bottoms on it (not the s model). I want something more exciting on my next build. If these motors are nothing special, what is exciting in the $100 for four motors price range?

Hey Stew, i'm wondering whether you do anything to protect your batteries against crashes? Already ripped some of my lipos and it feels so bad to throw them away with just a few charging cycles :/
thanks for the advice I was gonna upgrade my motors to theys but don't think I will now. I almost give up looking for my quad at one point but luckily after about 20 mins my esc's started chirping and saved the day lol
At 2:25 you can see when you do a punch out the entire quad oscillates and shakes badly. You have issues. Tune, props, or otherwise. I hate Emax, but in all fairness, you need to give these a second look after you iron out what is going on there.
I lost a lipo last week. I though about covering then in bright orange heat shrink would help me find them in the future but I haven't been able to find any online yet.
SkyrunnerFPV I wrap and glue mine with reflective ribbon. I found my quad at night with that stuff because its super reflective when hit with a flashlight, but also helps visibility in day.

I've tried the racerstar clones, didn't like the weight of the motor for racing because it feels like the motors take a bit longer to change speeds. Nice budget motors otherwise.
I've seen that a lot of people have had that problem, so fat my set are doing alright. They have survived a pretty hard front on hit with a brick wall but I might have just been lucky.
You need to use 1500mah 100c lipos on a heavy freestyle rig to feel that fling or you won't feel nothing at all on 5 inch cyclones or Avan props, Way more power than the original red bottoms re do the review with that combo Also the oscillations must be from way to much current draw out of the battery being used they are high torque smooth freestyle motors not race motors 😉 You miss understood Joshua's reason of the why need quote, lol, good old grumpy trev's eagle eyes. see what would you do without him 😜
EMAX White-Tops, T-Motor F40 II (or III), Cobra Champions, BrotherHobby Returner or DYS Fire motors? Which one should I pick if I use DAL 5045 triblades?
ABMNS PRODUCTION Dude, I mean which motors should I get? I know they would all work that's besides the point. I'm just looking for people who have experience with them. They're all beastly motors it's just that I'd like to know which are the most realiable, the most robust, etc ... I intend to build a racer with an insane power to weight ratio.
I'm currently using these props mostly with the classic Emax Red Bottom RS2205 and they are working fine for me and are pretty durable! Hope i could help you :)
Are you kidding me? I have both the originals and the white tops and they are substantially better. You need to use a battery with a high C rating to really appreciate the difference. Best suited for a heavier prop(5046 or avan)
Today I build a new copter and as soon as I start to raise the throttle after arming (connected to betaflight, no props) the copter copmletly flips out. What am I doing wrong? On idle they just spin normally but it also starts when I wiggle just a little on the copter.
Nume Boys I yea with props off though motors always act crazy I thought you where saying when you tilt the quad they reved up that is completely normal with props off it should act the same weither they are going the right way or not still but you make sure you motor rotation and your props are spinning the correct way and that you board orientation is all right and your good to go.
Based on the specs I think you wouldn't be able to tell a difference between the Emax 2205 motors and DJI branded ones (just like how this video showed no difference with these 2306 motors). I do find it funny they are called "snail" motors and have a picture of a snail on them. That's about what DJI is known for, very slow, docile, and controllable video platforms. Though I wouldn't trust specs published by the company that is selling them. Marketing seems to double the numbers because it looks good instead of what the engineers or technicians tested them at. (My "440g" motors are at 340g, and I'm shocked they are even that close). DJI's claims seem to be a bit high, but they should be possible, I just wouldn't trust them until I tested it myself.
