I got the achievement "But how" by critically damaging a plane while being on a plane myself, then getting shot down and the aircraft dying while I was playing a tank.

Unfortunately, when Gaijin lost the rights to Germany's old theme song (Ride of the Valkyries), Advance Australia is now Germany's theme song as well. Interesting. Never noticed that about the IL-2 but when I was playing the IL-2 a lot for grinding, I figured out that hitting pilboxes with 100kg bombs works quite well when using cockpit view and the aiming reticle.

The sky's star map is 100% accurate, Taurus and the Pleadies are modeled really well. they just need to make it a little more cinematic, add light pollution, so that you can see the milky way in night battles outside of cities.

As far as I remember, you can die more than once in Air RB by being declared as dead by the game but then landing safely in the airport and being allowed to repair. Most common with clipped wings.

Naval nerd here (who doesn't play WT naval because it's bad). I don't think a torpedo can run shallow enough to physically hit a floatplane directly enough to trigger the contact detonator, but it's possible a torpedo with a (working) magnetic detonator could explode when passing under a metal one. The question is if the aircraft has enough of a magnetic signature to trigger said detonator, which is especially finicky because designers of magnetic detonators initially didn't take into account how Earth's magnetic field varies so the sensitivity could range from not exploding at all to exploding randomly depending on location.

The mission editor is really fun and I've never faced an issue, probably because of my low tier vehicles lol

Arcade BRs are funky because A. Arcade is a weird place with odd energy retention and boosted turn rates. And B. Some light bombers and attackers have bloated BR’s because they can reload insane bomb-loads in air every 30 seconds or so.

I don't think the mission editor is unfinished, it's just outdated. The AI can't really fly modern jets, specially those with afterburners. They just fall like a brick. I haven't seen it lately, but I remember the fireworks also replaced the airfield AA fire by new years time - at least it did several years ago

9:27 its more complicated. The germans originally called both the 151/15 and 151/20 a flugzeugmaschinengewehr which translates to aircraft machine gun. From what caliber on something is an autocannon is and can still be debated it is generally agreed upon to be 20 mm and upwards. There are a few reasons for that. 1. Guns of this caliber exist but are no one man operations: Examples are the Lahti L-39, the Solothurn S 18-100 and S 18-1000 and the more recent Anzio rifles. They all weigh around 40 to 50 kg and the recoil springs are so heavy that the guns can not be charged by normal means. They are also exerting about the uper limit of recoil a human can handle. 2. The gap: Inbetwen the 15mm 12.7mm and 13.2mm cartridges exist a gap which only widened since the 15mm fell out of use. This has multiple reasons. Any gun with a larger caliber than that is no 1 man operation (in a military setting) anymore. A heavy mashine gun with a larger caliber would have to be disassembled to be carried. An M 2 for example is 28 to 38 kg depending on the version. This means it can reasonably be carried a small distance without the need to disassemble the gun. Though the tripod does have to be carried separately. 3. The end of the gap: the gap exists because rifles with larger caliber are not feasable to be moved by one soldier while mashine guns with with larger caliber would need such a heavy mounting that moving would involve many soldiers, even if the gun could be carried by 1 or 2 men. So we established that guns after theese calibers are stationary or mounted on vehicles. So we need somthing that offsets these drawbacks. This comes in form of the 20mm. At this point the filler and such begins to justify all the other drawbacks.

On the VT1-2, if the engine is disabled, or the engine is off. As long as there is battery power still left, the vehicle can still turn using hull aim. Definitely tricks your opponents, hehehehe.

Actually, the leo451 turret is supposed to be like that! The two 7.7s were added basically as a backup during testing of the aircraft after gunners complained how slow and difficult it was to reload the 20mm Hispano. I personally have never actually been able to use those 7.7s but idk if they're actually functional or not

The shell shatter actually does work how gaijin wants it to work. Every Apds round has a critical speed (normally achieved after 800 meters) where it will shatter after penetrating a plate thicker than ~30mm, interestingly, a plate too thick like over 100mm won’t cause the shatter and that’s on purpose as well. The puma has a heavily angled ufp that can cause shatter, it’s composed of 2 5mm rha plates and 5mm rubber in between.

You could totally torpedo a float plane in real life. Just depends on the torpedo and it's settings. If you have a large enough aircraft in the water, and the torpedo is set to glide as high as possible, it could totally explode with a contact fuse warhead.

For the shooting down planes with tank cannons in sim battles, I achieved it with the BMD-4 shooting down a heli, for those of you who need an easier option

I shot at an is4m with a bulldog apds round and got the “shell shattered”. Approximately 5 seconds later the bulldogs ufp also became shattered

the VT1-2 can still hull aim with destroyed engine (stops when the battery dies too) or single track as well while repairing and restocking crew. the Su-8 also has cockpit warning when taking off.

As for torping a float plane irl - it depends on the draft (how deep in the water the plane sits) and the depth the torp is set to run at. If the draft of the plane is 2 ft and the torp is set the run at 3 ft it will pass under it. Real world application is to have torps run deep to hit a specific target while passing under other ships. Think of targeting a battleship or aircraft carrier with much larger drafts than their escort destroyers and cruisers. And yes, in WW2 torpedoes were programmed to run at specific depths and speeds.

I just tried the test flight mission editor this weekend. It's not _brilliant_ for practicing tactics, but it's better than the standard test flight for getting to know your plane.

On torpedoing float planes, as many things, it depends. If the torpedo happens to run shallow enough and the float plane gives enough resistance to set off the contact detonator, then yeah it could. However, the torpedo would have to malfunction to run that shallow. If the torpedo is detonated magneticly, then it would depend on again run depth and how much steel is in the plane.

I got the 90% discount on any vehicle like a year ago. Bought the Harrier Gr.1 when it was new for $6.

You can climb the hill on the new abandoned town map, at least with an Ystervark. It's monster truck tires will bounce you over the low rocks on the right side just south of the little valley the cap is in. Once you work your way up, any plane strafing the cap is a sitting duck. However once they spot you, every red on the map will target you. Probably other vehicles can manage to get over the rocks but I haven't found them yet. You will need a lot of torque to climb that slope. Follow the boulder line up the right side, you'll come to a spot where one boulder is noticeably flatter and lower. I wouldn't call it cheating, the amount of work and time it takes probably hurts your team more than it helps, but it is fun.

Another interesting one is that in vehicles with multiple pilots, at least the SAAB-105G, if the pilot is knocked out, the cockpit view does not move to the other side of the cockpit but stays from the point of view of the knocked out pilot

Tip about Harrier -flares and chaffs - (Harrier Gr.1 cockpit is copypaste cockpit from Harrier Gr.7, in inside view in bouth harrier's we see metal wire over our head but in game this exist only in Gr.7 ;) )

theres also a neat detail in the animation of shells, tbe 3bm42 for example has a bigger body and the 3bm60 has a smaer one
