When you were talking about the beginning of Camp Damascus, it reminds me of horror movies/ stories as a whole. Sometimes all logic goes out of window where removing yourself from a scary situation seems less logical than staying and investigating it lol. Then there’s the aspect of “I guess then there wouldn’t be a story if they didn’t act brave, in a sense”. When I watch scary films I’m always like “Just leave! You’ll be alright if you just leave” 😂. Btw, your handwriting is so pretty omg.

I think one of the signs of a TALENTED author and storyteller is the ability to write a thriller/horror/suspense and have a main character that makes logical decisions 😂 At the same time, when I hear a scary noise at night, I immediately pull the blanket to my chin and pretend like I didn't hear anything 😂😭 And thank you! Sometimes I struggle to read it though because it is an absolute mess of loops

@@Babiebackbooks Maybe also being in a scary scenario makes logic harder to grasp when adrenaline is high lol. I never learned how to write in cursive, so when I see others who can, I feel jealous. lol.

So glad you got to read a book that spooked you so solid this Summerween! I think it would have been pretty sad if you got to the end and hadn't been sufficiently spooked, even with how the book unfolded. I'm nearing the end of my Summerween and I have one book to recommend, A Guest in the House by E. M. Carroll. It was the kind of spooky book where the ending scene is so haunting that I immediately reread the whole thing. I also immediately read two other E. M. Carroll books because their stories are so well crafted and told (Through the Woods and When I Arrived at the Castle); AGitH is solidly their best piece so far but I'm definitely interested in anything else by them.

AGitH has been IMMEDIATELY added to my tbr! I don't think you have recommended me something that wasn't directly up my aisle! Thank you

Yes! I rated Camp Damascus 4 ⭐️, I thought the same! The first half was soooo good and I was in it and then it went downhill when we figured out what was going on and then to me it felt like a time jump to the ending. I would’ve loved some descriptive flashbacks on what she went through in the camp. Also it felt like tell not show in the second half. I loved how unhinged it was tho haha like you’re thinking these intrusive thoughts, here goes a fly!

The beginning (even though it had me STRESSED) was honestly so much better in my mind! This feels like one of those books where the author lets the story drive them, rather than Tingle having control over his own story. And yes to what you're saying! The ending was jarring to experience! There were moments I had to pause just to acclimate myself almost. So many points for the setting though. Evil summer camp is devilishly ✨PERFECT✨ Have you gotten to The Only Good Indians, yet!? I remember you saying how excited you are. SPILL THE DEETS

@@Babiebackbooks yeah because of how great the beginning was I’m also looking forward to his new release Bury Your Gays! I hear that has been a really great read and I really like his writing. I’m going to pick up the only good Indians next month as the start of my spooky reads! That and Our Share of Night
