Tracks is my favorite film of all times and I just read the book also. I could not keep my eyes out of it.. it is really a marvelous adventure of a young woman, quite unique. Without the help and love of Rick Smolan, journalist of the National Geographic, she could not have accomplished her trip. Camels are beautiful but difficult animals and not to speak about the challenges of the dessert.

The principal difference between an adventurer and a suicide is that the adventurer leaves himself a margin of escape (the narrower the margin the greater the adventure), a margin whose width and length may be determined by unknown factors but whose navigation is determined by the measure of the adventurer's nerve and wits. Still my favorite woman. (Woman here). I have the book, I reluctantly watched the movie - it's not my favorite past time watching fictionalized accounts of great adventures and people - but anyway, I keep coming back because I need to be reminded. I have done my own adventurous things in life but it was certainly not with mad camels, alone and for 9 months to finish it. Well done, as always, Robyn, and thanks to Rick telling a a great story, especially hanging in there to actually get it out there.

A lot of commenters saying they can't wait to see the movie but I recommend the book. It's a much different story to what is portrayed in the hollywood film and way more interesting.

Agree! Ño movie ever has matched up to the written. I guess, in the movie your imagination is stunted. Whereas in the book you can imagine the topo, the incidents, why even the main person aróund whom the story revolves. From Heminģay to the war movies.......

"SPOILER ALERT"! Please do not read any further if you have not seen the movie, "TRACKS", yet! I just watched this movie last night. I never knew it existed until I found it on NETFLIX and thought it looked interesting. WOW! What a treat! I was, and still am, blown away. I had never heard of Robyn Davidson, never knew her story. Hell, I never knew there were camels in Australia! As the movie played out, I realized that this was not a fiction piece imagined from the mind of some brilliant writers, this was an actual true story!!! So well written, the cinematography was so beautiful (I could have watched the entire movie on mute and loved it), and the acting (even by the supporting cast) was so good as to make you feel like a peeping tom, rather than a very lucky audience member. I was moved to tears at the end. For some reason, those photos of Robyn's actual adventures at the end of the movie- well, they really got to me. They somehow pushed home the reality that this was her true adventure, and she did it, she really made it happen. I am ordering the book today, and I can not wait to get lost in it's pages.

A couple is not entirely accurate. Although she had some feelings for him, she described it as "one of the worst mistakes I made in terms of my freedom".

I read Tracks many years ago, and think that Rick's imposition on Robyn's trip changed the whole nature of the thing, and not positively. It's like Civilization feeding off a private experience, capitalizing on anything 'interesting' or "unique,' and they made a friggin film about it, made money off it, all because a private individual wanted to do something for her own reasons. Is nothing sacred? I often wonder what Davidson thinks about the whole experience today....

Hansi Stein Somewhere I agree with you on the other hand, not being told is a waist. This is like when I was told stories from my grandma land. So vividly. I still haven't been there but because she told about it , I want to go. We're social animals , we need to tell. By the way , her journey was being told by everyone she met along her journey. This way the impact is international.

We definitely need each other to produce a life worth living. And some people have experience that no one else will. So much knowledge is lost through their death. They never told it.
