Went on 2 hikes with my kids this weekend, one at Tidbinbilla and one at Mulligans Flat. Enjoying nature myself is fantastic but watching my kids enjoy it too is even better ❤ Loved watching you and Gina on Alone.

This is so good to hear. I’m keen to get my daughter out for an overnight hike. Love watching them enjoy it. Makes me enjoy it all the more.

Awesome work Chloe, "Encourage your child to have muddy, grassy or sandy feet by the end of each day, that’s the childhood they deserve. - Penny Whitehouse"

Hey hey Kate, Yeah, there is so much to unpack from this episode. I have experienced panic attacks, and so I also keenly understand that suppressing them only works in the short term. They then tend to surface most unexpectedly and much stronger. So I really engaged with Chris and his experiences. I loved that Gina chose not to bring a sleeping bag, and look it really worked for her. Really enjoyed seeing the mood uplifts, and was excited for Duane when he caught that fish. Kudos to him for giving it a go and eating that thing raw. And that Axe was awesome! Mike was really into the bushcraft out there, and it was so interesting watching him build and be so inventive. We found Michael truly interesting, and it was easy to see that he had a beautiful nature about him. That bath was a great idea. Personal hygiene is very important, and can easily lift one's spirits. We loved your tinkering, finding the plants and showing us their uses. We absolutely have great knowledge to learn from our Indigenous Elders. They really knew how to engage with their environment and be in sync with it. Oh and fire - I know that fire is an element, but when you watch a camp fire closely (bush TV) it certainly seems to be alive. Another great episode of Alone. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers 😁

Thanks a lot Shaz. So glad you are enjoying them. So sorry to hear about the anxiety. The modern world can be a hard place. Hope you are doing okay. Hopefully your nature connection can help a little. Thanks again for your amazing support. It means a lot

Yep. I recorded these as they came out so it’s kinda fun to water evolution. Took me a bit to get out with everything going on and making sure I didn’t have spoilers etc

@@KateGrarock yes, I used plain language so as to not suggest him or her as the winner. I am not into these shows but as luck would have it, skipped over to SBS for the reveal moment. The ten minutes I saw was all I viewed of the show 😮

Question for you. Why was it important for you to join cub scouts when there are girl guides and brownies that also do camping, outdoor activities etc? As a kid, I was in scouts, my sister was in girl guides and that didn't seem to be an issue. I'm not sure I understand where the barriers are?

Not sure about Kate's experience but if you're in a super rural town, there may not have been any guides or brownies. I know in my local town, they only had Scouts. The closest girl guide group was 85kms away. My son is in Scouts now and they welcome boys and girls.

@@chloecrawford5426 Great point Chloe. I guess it is a matter of supply and demand.. if more boys are interested outdoors stuff there will be more opportunities. If she was a young boy growing up and wanted to play netball the same would have been true also. These days there are mixed netball teams and girls can now join Scouts. (although boys can't join girl guides)

@@hikerinaustralia Yeah, also depends on volunteers which is hard these days. Because Scouts now allows everyone, they end up having a larger pool of people to get volunteers from. Not sure if guides allows male leaders etc. We are lucky our local Scout group is big enough to have a decent amount of volunteers and their own hall. It's so important to get kids outside in nature. Our local government won't give permission for new Scout halls, they make them meet in school halls, which is fine except there is no where to store any of the equipment or materials or do certain activities because it isn't their space. I wonder if the differences between outdoor interests in girls and boys is socialised or inherent. I know that I tried not to be interested because my mother always said she hated camping and spoke very negatively about it. But I started to hike in my 20s and did my first overnight hike at 35 and fell in love with it!!

Love the convo. Yes the alternatives in my town at that time were more cross stitch and camping in someone’s lounge room. Not being allowed to participate in outdoor activities like this was a clear signal that this is something men do and not women. A good male friend is currently working towards national representation in netball which I am so excited for. But sadly I still get questioned if I’m ok and need help when solo hiking. The barriers come from many many steps of not feeling (and being told) women don’t belong or are not safe outdoors. If I had $10 buck for ever guy who asked me “are you on your own!!!” when hiking or people who question the safety of hiking solo as a female the id be rich. I really hoped this was a issue of me growing up in south Australia in the 80s but sadly I still see it today. So many young women reach out to me and talk about feeling the barriers in the outdoor would. I’d love to discuss more if you are genuinely interested.

@@KateGrarock Yes! I also love that my son's will see me hike and camp etc because they want to come with me! So they will grow up not assuming the outdoors is for everyone 😁
