Alone Season 8 Episode 4 Recap

Episode 4 of Alone Season 8 just aired last night. Theresa's pit house is very impressive. It's got to be the most impressive survival shelter we've ever seen on the show. Although it's a huge energy expenditure up front, it'll allow her to use less energy later in the year when the temperature starts to drop. Colter had a run in with a grizzly while he was skinny dipping! Serious but funny at the same time. Nate builds a dock to get access to deeper water in hopes of catching a few more fish. Rose continues to struggle to find food. Jordan's log cabin was super impressive as well. His story about his daughter was absolutely heart breaking.
Don't forget to subscribe to the channel. We're uploading a new video each week that features one of the following topics: archery, bow hunting, bow building, survival skills, bushcraft, self reliance, primitive skills, primitive bows, hunting, camping, fishing, and a lot more!

Sad to see Jordan tap out so early especially as it seemed like he had a great start. but I think any parent can put themselves in his shoes and understand exactly why he did what he had to do. That was a tough confessional to watch. Wish him all the best.

Enjoyed your shared feelings concerning Thursday’s episode. I wish I didn’t share common ground with Jordan, but unfortunately I do. I lost one of my two sons in 2018, and the tragedy of that reality never heals. I’m also from Tennessee, and my remaining sons name is Jordan. I understand the need to engage in hobbies or whatever so as to push the sadness away, even though you feel guilt from trying not to think of the son you loss... For a parent to lose a child, departs from the natural course of how you always imagined life’s path would flow. After a while, the thoughts and words have been repeated a thousand or more times, but the reality remains the same. Love your loved ones, let them know, and never take them for granted!

Huge fan Clay, really enjoying your analyses. I appreciate the empathy you show for Jordon here, got me goin too man lol. Something Les Stroud would always hammer home in Survivorman is how the most important element of survival is managing your emotions and your state of mind. It's so easy to fall into panic, despair, malaise, mania, etc, especially when you're alone, and deprived. And if that happens, it doesn't matter how skilled you are, you won't be able to make good decisions, and setbacks will worsen your mind and lead to a downward spiral of mistakes. Aside from his immense skillset, knowledge, and experience, Roland had a huge advantage in his relationship with isolation. Not having wife/kids, and constantly confronting those lonesome hours and days in silence, forced to confront your deep and repressed thoughts, you develop a familiarity and skillset in managing those inner demons. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

After Colter had to shoot those 3 or 4 bear bangers (or whatever they're called) I was wondering... can he call and ask the show support people for more bangers? I'd hate to see him have another encounter and then he doesn't have enough of those things to scare off the next one. That would have to be a safety thing right?

I think he only shot one actually, they edited in different angles and such and built up the drama, but if you watch closely it looks like it only took one lol As we have seen in various episodes, they are in contact with Production beyond just tapping out, so I would suspect that they are probably supposed to call in and report any close calls, usage of safety equipment etc, and that it will be replaced. There is no logic to having them risk a bear attack because they are trying to ration the bangers.

I’m really enjoying your videos. Theresa’s pit house is something I’ve been waiting to see someone build since Alone first started. I’d be curious to know if her calorie expenditure on that pit house wasn’t very close to Jordan’s calorie expenditure on his cabin. Her on and off accent is driving me crazy though 😆 Rose (from the little bit we’ve seen of her) really needs to get her head in the game. I’m really surprised that nobody (?) chose to bring a gill net and, it appears that nobody has any snares out yet. I’d definitely want to be ‘passively’ trying to obtain food while I was working on my shelter from the start. My top 3 picks to win right now are: 1) You 2) Nate 3) Theresa
@megnakamura7652
@megnakamura7652 3 года назад
I think that they are not allowed to use snares in that area and cannot use a gill net until a certain time of the year.
@Alaska_Mac
@Alaska_Mac 2 года назад
Personally, I would never take a gill net as an item, because I can make one in the field if I have cordage. It would be wasting an item slot. Plus they weren't allowed to even set a net until day 45, so it would be a completely wasted item for a month and a half, versus bringing something you could use the entire time, and make the net when it was time with your materials.

Clay, when you mentioned Dick Proenneke's film Alone in the Wilderness I literally paused your video and went to find it on YT. Something told me I just had to watch it. Wow, what an incredible guy. He almost seemed enlightened (I mean, the guy literally had birds eating out of his hands). I found it very interesting that he abstained from harvesting big game, as he felt it was too much meat for one man, and got by mainly on berries and lake trout.

It is hard to tell with the selective editing, but it appears that no one has set a gill net out. In addition I'm not sure I've seen anyone set a snare and/or trap. You've talked about shallow water and that certainly creates hurdles with a net, but I'm surprised to have not seen one yet. Did you have a net out at this point? Did you have snares/traps out by this point (around 18 days). I'm very appreciative of you taking the time to make these videos discussing the show in a clear, concise and logical fashion. It does feel like most of the time when I'm watching the show I'm always saying "why, why, why!?!?". Your discussions help a lot with this.

Yep, I am a Native Texican! More or less in the middle of Texas. I am or was an Oilfield/Gas plant Electrician. I have basically worked all over the nation. The Texican Language and Accent is more or less.....a mixture of Southern and Western. The Okies talk very similar. I spent a year in Louisiana building a Gas Plant. Within a few weeks....I was talking like I was a local. You just pick up on the rhythms and little sayings. Luckily now I stay in Texas unless I go to CO or NM to bother the Elk. I have Native/Hispanic buddies in CO that I have known for 20 years. After 2 weeks hanging with them, they are talking a little more Texican and I am talking a bit more Western!

If you avoid this, I understand. I think the goal of the show should be who can survive with a certain amount of tools and NOT who can withstand starvation the longest, which is what it has become. Give contestants the tools that the Voyageurs had. A canoe, an over/under 12 gauge/.308 capable of killing game, a spinning rod and lures. The contest will take longer perhaps but I'm tiredof watching bodies deteriorate from malnutrition. What kind of contest is that?

Why would people get salty about you asking them to subscribe? I think I would ignore people who spout nonsense.

The accent thing is heavily tied to adhd as a form of masking

What do you mean by masking? I’ve definitely got adhd!

In my opinion it is simply not appropriate or respectful for a Season contestant to give comments on the ongoing premiers of each new episode - imagine if every contestant did that. AFTER - "your" season ends a contestant from Season 8 would be great to recap each episode of Season 9 where then you are in the same "boat" as the viewers - but to recap episodes on the season YOU participated in - NOT appropriate in my opinion.

Stop with the accent picking up.. It's a joke that you think you do it subliminally.
