Fernando Alonso's Qualifying 3 lap at the Circuit of the Americas. Driving like an absolute beast, outqualifying his teammate, Vandoorne, by 0.634 seconds... Q3 Time: 1:35.007
I am Button and Hakkinen fan. Alonso is a beast, probably the best ever. He never added to his two titles but his skill tells you the story. I like Hamilton but it annoys me when people say Hamilton matched him at Mclaren. I realise Alonso had the team against him for half the season. Even Legendary Ron Dennis said them famous words when he mentioned Alonso beat them at a race, yet Alonso was driving a Mclaren. They did not have equal cars 2nd half of season. I feel robbed that we didnt get to see a prime Hamilton vs Alonso in modern era with equal cars. We saw Vettel vs Alonso and Alonso nearly beat him in an inferior Ferrari. Senna, Hamilton and Montoya are the fastest guys in F1 history but I know Alonso is the best driver overall. His stats tell the facts!!!!
He is the best. Ham is damn good and maybe a bit faster qualifier but overall alonso is a better driver. For me schumacher/ alonso are the best of all time and right behind them are senna/fangio/lauda and then hamilton/prost/stewart/hunt.
He pushes like an animal. But the car is still too slow. Even their speed trap was at 310kph whereas the other teams can push up to 325. Hopefully he gets a better car next season with Renault engine.
Yeah, the lap is really nearly perfect, a masterclass but if you have simply less power there are limits that cant be pushed. I hope he will be rewarded with one or two points today
+DudeOnly GamingAndOtherStuff It's not realistic but I hope more succes for him too. If they adapt Renault engine they could rival RedBull, but the best.... hmm.... it's.... well.... we'll have to see. But Mclaren will become more competitive no doubt. Their chassis is amazing, proved by the fact Nando got 6th and fastest lap at Hungaroring this year (a track reliant more on high downforce, aero and mechanical grip than on top speed and acceleration). With a better engine and more reliability (allthough Renault lacks on that as well) they should be up there.
Ed Mathews ain’t gonna happen they have been developing for 3 years and still their engine is maxed at 310kph don’t think another year is gonna make a difference
It probably will because the main reason why the honda engine was lacking in the top speed sector was the small turbocharger which had to be used to fit into the mcclaren chassis.(Not saying that the Mcclaren chassis is bad, but the Mcclaren and Honda partnership was just a mismatch.) If Torro Rosso can offer Honda a bigger "engine bay", then they might get on par with the max power output with the other manufacturers.
@Ed Mathews - Whatever the case may be, I don't expect any big miracles from McLaren-Renault partnership. I would've preferred it if they went for a Mercedes engine, or even god forbid, a Ferrari engine. Oh well, at least with Renault they'll get better fuel efficiency and a lighter overall package, which would help the chassis design immensely. The only issue would be the cooling requirements. And I also believe Alonso is due some good fortune on team performance after so many years of bad luck and bad timing in career choices.
Think your right man! the good thing i think is that we'll finally know where there chassis is in comparison to red bull (which i dont think is the best this year) A driver needs a podium next year and i hope its fernando. He deserevs it!
If I didn't watch F1 regularly and didn't know McLaren-Honda was a slow car, I would believe this lap was a pole lap if somebody told me it was... it was awesome!
Considering the ups and downs of car performance he’s had to deal with from his dominant reanault days or his Ferrari days to his shitty McLaren days 2015-17 he’s probably one of the best drivers at being able to get the most out of their car
I can think of about three or four drivers that really stand out after the great Ayrton was gone. Hakkinen, Hamilton, Schumacher possibly Raikkonen or Button in their prime. But I really believe that Alonso is the only driver who would give Senna a real hard time, if they could somehow exist in the same team.
+Carlos Piedra Hamilton didn't gain advantage by hitting the apex since his Mercedes is waaay faster. It's the exit of the corner that matters more than the turning in. Because that's not where you carry the speed untill the next straight or corner.
+isolator86 Yet rookie Hamilton beat experienced Alonso in 2007 with same car. Still, i respect Alonso, he's amazing and he's an incredible pilot. Second best of the current grid. He aged better than Raikkönnen in terms of driving capabilities.
It would be soooooo great to have the McLaren cars fighting alongside Mercedes,Ferrarri&Red Bull next year. Think of all the fantastic racing it could generate for us spectators. I , for sure , would love it. Nothing better than tight , close races with lots of contenders.
+Thomas John Solidum FIA should abandon - pitlane speedlimits - DRS - (K)ERS - HALO IMMEDIALTY!!!! - Hybrid and MGU-K-H or whatever rubbish - Turbo - Pirelli monopoly (and bring back Bridgestones) - V6-es and go straight back to V10s or V12s (perhaps even V8) (THIS IS THE TOP OF MOTORSPORT FFS!!! Not eletric-hairclipper contest! Even Formula 2 runs with a 3.5 V8!!! - track run-out sections and put gravel, walls, and grass everywhere to have clear track limits - rediculous rules - grid penalties ASAP!!! REDICULOUS, HONESTLY!!! Punish the team, not the damn driver. - LET THE REFUELING RETURN!!! - Inconsistant stewards - Team Orders PUNISH TEAM ORDER POSITION CHANGE WITH BUDGET CUT OR POINTS LOSS!
@@Firemarioflower um bro number one the halo has saved lives, number two the Pit lane speed limit saves lives, and number three some run offs are good at stopping some cars from hitting your walls and being really messed up.
the car is good, and Fernando still is a world class driver. give him a powerful and reliable engine and he will hunt the Hamiltons, the Vettels and the Verstappens down.
Alonso is still a top tier driver no question. Its very difficult to quantify who is the best of this era of F1 drivers. Winning championships mean performing at peak performance or near it all season. If we take drivers on their merit as drivers and not judge them as characters ( near impossible judging by many comments ), we might get some more balanced appraisals. Im not a huge fan of this turbo/hybrid era, but it must be said it is a very strong field. At least the cars are recovering downforce lost in previous years and they look great through the high speed stuff. Vettel, Hamilton and Alonso are multiple champions for good reason. Its not enough to be quick, intelligence is required too, plus the ability to think while driving flat out ( or close ). Verstappen has pretty much joined this group now and you have to say Ricciardo is there too. ( lets not forget his performance against Vettel at Red Bull ). They are all human and make mistakes, some as a result of their weaknesses in personality ( Vettel ) or inexperience ( Verstappen ). It cannot be denied that Hamilton is performing right at the top of his game - he is not making any mistakes, so if a comparison must be made I would say he and Alonso are the full article right now. Some big changes ahead rules wise. Whatever they are the big money teams with the best designers and drivers will still win. That McLaren clearly has a great chassis so Im expecting Alonso to be right there next season with the Renault in the back.
Vandoorne didn't have the new front wing... and when he used it in FP1 he was 5th so disregard performance difference with teammate although he's incredible and on top of its art!
Let's settle this once and for all. He is the BEST driver on the current grid. no questions asked. I know he can be hard to work with but facts are facts.
Filip Lalovic lets only look at 2012 onwards. His cars were always worse than the best car on the grid. Yet he still easily outdrove his teammates and outdrove others with much faster cars. But i do agree with ine thing. We will never know exactly how much is his oace and how much is the car development.
Barbu Patrik His teammates weren't really so competitive ... A post - accident Massa and a post-prime Raïkkonen. Also Vettel won in a Torro Rosso while Hamilton is the only driver to have won a race in every season in his career. When you bear in mind Mclaren's 2009 car that's just as impressive as what Alonso was able to achieve.
@H White - And no more mid-season regulations that only benefit the leading team and curbs their competition. What the actual fuck kind of ruling was that anyway? Fucking FIA.
+Dave Mitch The worst lately rule has been the oil burn limit that is higher in favor of Mercedes. Some say FIA = Ferrari International Assistance??? I think not. They're Fagmilton Internatinal Assistance.
