Thank you!! thank you !! so much Dr. Donovan for taking the time to educate us!! There’s not a lot of info yet on these JAK inhibitors but your explanation is so helpful you have no idea!!!! I’m literally crying 😢 My 5 year old daughter has lost 80% of her hair from AA. I have tried clobetasol solution, clobex shampoo, elidel cream, minoxidil etc with not a sign of slowing down her hair loss or regrowth!!! So then I took her to another doctor here in Chicago where we live, and he gave us a blend of essential oils to apply daily and to then apply minoxidil over that as well for 7 weeks with no progress! I’m devastated that this has happened to my child! She’s starting kindergarten in just a few weeks and cries that kids will make fun of her! At the last visit, which was just a few days ago the doctor shook his head and said” we tried the gentle approach but it’s not working! so let’s try this compound cream from a specialty pharmacy called tofacitinib 2% liposomal which is how I came across your video in the first place! I’m hoping and praying that this will be the solution I’ve been looking for. I’m just afraid that it’ll fall out again if we stop using it? Do you know if that’s what’ll happen or do you think with prolonged use of this compound we could get passed the inflammation process somehow and be in the clear by then?? Interestingly, as I watched your video something you said made perfect sense because my daughter had the worst stomach flu I have EVER seen in my life! ( I’m sorry this is gross) but it literally smelled like something died inside of her! I think this is why this has happened to her. The timing is right on! She had the stomach flu in the very beginning of March 2018 and at the end of April 2018 I noticed her first bald area. So we’re just at the 3 month mark at this point. BLAKELY STOKENBURY Hi! Thank you for your response. I’ve been using the JAK inhibitor now for 3 weeks on my daughter and I’ve noticed these super super fine hairs growing all over her scalp! Do you think that it’s a good sign? Her Derm didn’t get excited about it so I left the office thinking I better not get my hopes up because I’m scared to get excited. His main concern was still that she’s actively still losing hair.... that’s when he gave her the JAK inhibitor. How long did it take for your daughter to see hair grow after using the tofacitinib?? My daughter is like 90% bald at this point.... thank you!
I pray that your daughter gets all her hair back!!! It’s hard to do injections on my daughter because she’s only 5! I think it would be way too traumatic for her. Please give me any advice you have! Thank you
Muhammad Majid Albaloshy Hello Muhammad, I came back to this RU-vid video by coincidence and saw your message. If you truly have a cure you will be worshipped by millions of people! My little girl has no hair no eyebrows and no eye lashes at this point and we are devastated!! My heart breaks every single day watching her go to school being the only bald kid there. Please please tell me this is not a joke as so many people find it funny to trick people into thinking that they know something more....
side effects in some users of oral tofacitinib have included infections (viral, bacterial, fungal, opportunistic, TB, etc), changes in blood counts, increased liver enzymes (small proportion), increased creatinine (small proportion), increased CK, acne, blood clots, headaches (1-2 %), nausea, vomiting, (rare) cancer risks, heart disease, strokes, pregnancy concerns (can't be used in pregnancy), colon perforation. The use is lifelong for most with alopecia areata. If it's used for another reasons (like scarring alopecia), it's used until the disease becomes quiet - assuming that it is helping. Be sure to review fully with your health care team.
Fellow physician here -- I've had a history of dandruff, though in the past 6 months I've noticed hair thinning that accompanies pruritus. Think something like this could be a dysbiosis of the scalp, or at the least, immune-mediated?
Could be but you'd need to be evaluated properly. Patients with scalp itching always need a careful and detailed examination. There are so many cases of hair loss associated with scalp itching (about 15 +).
