Jeez, that's a lot. I'll say this. These are expectations for the 3.23 update branch. While many features may be here in April, some will certainly come in subsequent months.
I remember how 3.18 was supposed to be super-duper revolutionary. And I also remember how the game was unplayable for 3 months after that. Let's see what will happen with 3.23.
I know it was removed because it used old assets and was a resource hog, but it was literally the only visually distinct station in the game. I hate that they all feel copy/pasted.
I've been in it for 7+ years and I will be completely SHOCKED if we see HALF of what they are promising for 3.23!!! Also I doubt we see it before June.
It's good be one or the other. Either they take features out and ship the patch on time, or out has everything and releases late. But I do believe some features will not make the initial patch launch in April.
@@Jellybeantiger you have the same handle as right wing political fascist bot farms So weird you're here targeting a successful crowd funded project....
@@cwx8That is not true. It was never announced that way, its have been in development all this time, it wasn't until CitizenCon that was announced as feature complete. Don't say bullshit.
@dRollMan1978 Lie. Roberts lied several times. He said that the game is almost done in 2017, than again in 2019, than Roberts announced that there will beta of SQ42 in 2020.... and than he stopped talking about it for at least 2 years hahahaha... and now we're in 2024... still nothing. The guy isn't credible. His reputation is in ruins.
I so appreciate videos like this that summarize a lot of information! I am a star season player that jumps in once a year or so after a big patch. It’s nice to get updates like this. That way I know what I’m getting into.
Took a year break, coming back with the launch of 3.22. Man I’m glad I’m back. Love the videos man, I’ve been playing since 2015 and I personally think that if 3.23 ends up being a godly patch… it might just be the biggest patch since 3.0. RIP P.O. though, she will be missed
The map interface alone is a HUGE plus. The current space map is completely unusable. The whole mobi is terrible, which makes it seem horribly unfinished.
Exploration and datarunning with maps and markers to sell, yeah! Definitely something I am looking forward too as well. Engineering is definitely another one I am looking forward too, maybe even more so. So many new cool things coming to the PU. Love it. Also love the content, Tomato, hope it will keep coming without geofencing troubles!
As expected they've already announced the first big cuts to the patch notes: Cargo elevators in the personal hangars won't be making it which was arguably the biggest feature in the patch. The knock on effect is that some other stuff that implicitly depended on those terminals like the ability to recover lost subscriber items is probably also done for. The optimism that they had turned a new leaf seems to have been premature. I wonder what the next feature to get bumped from the schedule will be, and I wonder how many quarters/years until the elevators are implemented, or removed from the roadmap.
3:10 hahahahaha 13:30 my god that ship UI is so much better than what we have now. I hope this is also coming in 3.23. I wish Chris would put a Pyro mode in game now. Just either load into a Pyro or Stanton server. When the tech finally arrives, then allow us to travel between systems using jump points thanks to dynamic server meshing.
Since the first time I played SC back in 3.17 i knew then that it would be my favorite game of all time. I took a break a couple years ago and came back a week ago. Everytime i hop on im amazed. Im so incredibly excited for this update. Looks sweet!
I'm waiting for the engineering update to be fully implemented because from what I've been hearing about it, that system seems interesting and could be a good way to introduce a free to play model to Star Citizen where players can play completely free but they can't own a ship
@@SpaceTomato that and I was thinking about how there's still a thing going around that Star Citizen is a "scam and will never come out" having a free to play model for Star Citizen would entice people to play and my reasoning for not being able to own a ship is to reduce griefing that and add an additional revenue generator where CIG can sell "licenses" either a ship or pilot one for $10. Though also having the option to just be a crew member of another player's ship would open up gameplay opportunities as well as representation options where a player would earn rep from how good of a crew member they were. Plus I'd like to see options that make it so player action effects the world or universe in this case. So for example if I'm a data thief and I steal the jump plans for a diplomatic ship's course I can sell those plans to either NPC pirates or other players who are being pirates and then if they destroy the ship and a top level diplomat is on it then there's repercussions from the NPC government about a bounty for the data thief as well as for any player who helped destroy the ship
If what they did in SQ42 is the identity of SC going forward in terms of UI and gameplay. Then yeah I think 3.23 will be a new game experience, and we will have a glimpse into the experience of SQ42.
Im playing 3.23 now, the number of features we're testing right now already exceed that of a normal patch. Other than Master Modes lowering piloting skill impact on the combat equation, I like what im seeing!
Anyone complaining about Mastermodes, re-watch Star Wars and the Trench Run, they literally go from Nav mode to Combat mode after they report in, I believe that is the feel they were trying to go for. I'm looking forward to it.
I remember back to early 2014 when I bought my Aurora and walked around it, trying to fly the thing, only to realize that I was not able to. Since then, I have baked a lot more, hoping that one day the dream comes true. What we have today, and what we saw at CitizenCon, is way more than I could have imagined back in those days.
That map interface is so much nicer looking then the current one! And a search function, about time! This will be great for new and vet players alike. That and the upgraded Mobi-glass, it finally looks like they got the UI/UX look they have been going for all along. The maps and mini-maps are a game changer! Man all good stuff, cant wait to try it out.
For me its the hangars and the minimap that will revolutionnize the game on my POV as a cargo hauler/miner The idea of having an hangar dedicated to my mining operations is just fucking amazing, im really looking foward for that
Yeah great vid. Hyped for 3.23. Only thing I'd say is ppl gotta remember that pretty much all these features, even if delivered on time in 3.23, will be partial versions of what they demoed at CitCon. This isn't them giving us most of what they showed, but more like them STARTING to do that. Just sayin.
9TLD was my favourite event because it allowed us to play on the 9T team against other players. Now they’ve completely eradicated that and turned it into another tame nothing event with underpowered AI enemies designed to sell more ships and and make the weak feel strong whilst flying them
It sounds like the blockade can still be controlled by nine tails. Regardless, with reputation based hostility, I would guess whatever faction it is will have a threshold that lets you flight for them. This is just uncoupling it from a specific group. Not sure what this could possibly have to do with selling more ships when you can just rent one or buy one in game.
@@SpaceTomato they only use these events to advertise ships, and the enemies are always way quicker to kill than standard “bounty’s” to give a false sense of power to unsuspecting players The original 9TLD paid you for killing players, this one doesn’t
I believe we are now seeing the result of Squadron 42 being feature complete. Said features can be brought over to Star Citizen along with developers who are freed up as their work on SQ42 is finished. Development is speeding up and while I don't think Start Citizen will be completed before 2030, I do think we'll see a lot of features added every year.
I reckon we're finally seeing Squadron 42 getting all its stuff done. They can take those stuff and people over to Star Citizen now that they're done with Squadron 42. It's like making things go faster, and even though Star Citizen won't be finished until like forever, we'll get more stuff every year.
@@inviktus1983The Main guy himself said on Citizen Con that SQ42 is feature complete and is in polishing phase... Stuff from SQ42 will get ported to Star Citizen as a lot of people moved over to star citizen
Just a note - April 2024 is the start of Q2, the patch may only come end of Q2 - which is June - as this video opens about expectations - just wanted to correct you on that small statement (you said it was due for April 2024).
Great overview. I have been involved with SC for about 8 years but had enough in 2020. I figured this "game" (simulation) would never get to Beta, much less an actual game. But your overview has me interested again even though I would bet money that most of these features will likely make their debut in 2025. The big question is whether or not they will finally provide a means for navigating on a planet. Please... no more "look for this mountain that looks like a hat, then go left."
The whole faction AI hostility reputation thing is SUCH an interesting concept for a game. I wonder like maybe if you do more work for Crusader Security, let's say, maybe Hurston Security AI would just either not work as welll with you on their team or just flat our refuse you to enter into their bunkers or space stations?? Or what if you can side with the Nine Tails gang, maybe ALL the security forces AI will be hostile to you and you won't be able to enter ANY space station or major city? God, I just am FULL of wonder of how it'll all work!! Never played a game with that kinda AI work.
The feature list for 3.23 looks impressive. How much of it will actually land in 3.23 and actually work? All we ever get is T0 that barely works, just to say they delivered it. It's depressing.
7:40 imagine having to move your 40 weapons, 200 attachments, 150 armour pieces, 30 pieces of clothing, 100 ship upgrades, 100 multitools, 50 medguns etc. from your home base to the station you want to "live" at after a soft wipe where everything gets unequiped and spawns back at orison... one by one... manually......
Having to move all the cargo by hand feels less sci-fi but much more dystopian. Never understood why the heck I need to take a train to press sell on a terminal (which could be a window in my mobi glass instead), now I need to load all the crap myself? This is what robots are for!
Given the update history of SC, I expect 3.23 to be a clusterfeck of epic proportions that will cause absolute chaos for a few weeks/months before getting ironed out and making the game better. Just like all previous updates, but this one is on a scale we've not seen before, so the fallout will be likewise of proportions we've not seen before. Get your popcorn ready
"Shown in a working environment" has not meant "will actually work in the live servers" multiple times now - not some complaint or anything, just sayin'. Their internal, closed tests and what we see come intro to PTU are often very, very different experiences :D
If they don’t add more textured hair options in the next patch I’m going to scream. I’ve been using the Mohawk since launch since the buzz cut had a bald spot-but when they took it out I was really upset. Now I’ve got the choice between buzz cut and pimp with a perm😩
A lot of these look like steps in the right direction, but I'll come back to this game when I won't have to worry about losing my progress, items or money. I'm so tired of restarting in games, I just want to pick up where i left off when I come back.
Given that SQ42 is “feature complete” and they’re currently migrating devs back to the PU, I think this year will be a big one for progress as a whole in the game, and I’m here for it. Though, I think their target of “Early April” for release is wishful thinking, I think we’ll end up getting it around mid June
The most exciting thing I took away, was that it sounds like they are getting more serious about hunkering down and moving the goal posts to get more stuff done faster. I haven't really had the chance to play this game at all, mainly because the leaps in tech in order to simply play is out of reach (for now), I was a day 1 backer that has just been sitting in the darkness, waiting for this to get done.... I like all I see in all the videos I see about the game. I look forward to a final release sometime in the year 2035. lol Hopefully I'll be alive still.
To me, I think this is actually possible, while we've lost the spawning vehicles part from the freight elevator so far, i don't think we'll lose anything else. I think its possible because squadron's teams have merged back into SC now.
Haven't played in months and not planning to for a while until i see some actual change. Not much have changed since i played back in 2020. Think a very long break will help with my expectations plus if there is going to be a change then i to feel like a newnplayer again. I am enjoying palworld and heldivers atm
After backing in late 2013, I finally reached my exhaustion point in waiting on broken promises and nearly stopped playing last September. I've logged in a few times since then but it has been few and far in between. I'm looking forward to all of the updates coming but I'm not holding my breath.
@@SpaceTomato Apologies for that, your right i should have put more thought into that comment. And yes it’s worthy content. I am subbed to you for a reason. Having a downer on CIG should not reflect on the hard work and quality of your videos. Sorry Tomato.
Uhm caution with optimism. History of PTSD due to over ten years of trauma. Got beat up a lot with many promises then I was chained in the psychological depency basement. Offered some hope but cruelly taken away.I still in treatment and still have some nightmare that it will another ten years before we get to beta. I get nauseated when you say another 10 years plus thing. Beware Tomato you may wind up in the psychological basement. Love your videos and fresh.
You did! All of these things were initally implemented in some way in 2017 *starmap, quantum, interaction, economics, cargo missions, and more!), now they are being replaced with more finalized versions. That's part of what I went over in the video.
Something I’ve noticed is that all the game is pushing envelopes, it is nowhere near being completed to the developers liking. It is functional, and passes as a game that is far from being bare bones, but they’re taking the phrase ‘valve time’ to a logical extreme.
Hey there, quick question. Is there already an eta on when they will implement missions that don't bug out, get you stuck or kill you in "interesting" ways so you can actually do things other than fly around with a barely functioning map while you desperately try to convince your friends that "this is going to be great guys!" ? Been waiting and playing since 2012 that's why I'm curious what die hard SC fans think about the "add more buggy features instead of fixing and cementing the groundwork first" approach.
I desperately want a far more player-friendly PvE-only closed co-op version of the game to play. They keep adding (or rather, talking about adding) "realistic" features to the game, like shitting, pissing, showering, weapons rusting, vehicles getting worn down over time, tools running out of battery, etc, and I don't want to bother with any of that garbage. It's cool for a hardcore MMO, but I'd like to at least have options. We could have: Star Citizen - PvPvE Hardcore MMO. Maybe also add a less hardcore server option (less payout due to it being less risky). Arena Commander - PvP shooter. I'd like it to have MASSIVE multiplayer battles that blow Battlefield out of the water and into outer space. As it currently stands, it is very underwhelming. Squadron 42 - Linear Singleplayer Story Mode? I hope it's more like an open-world RPG that doesn't end after the main story is over. [Unnamed Mode] - A custom version of Star Citizen, similar to the likes of player-hosted servers in Rust/Ark/Conan, where you are in complete control over server settings, and you don't even need to be online to play it. You can play it by yourself or with however many friends your computer can handle.
Every "update" since the game was made available has been hyped. This one is no different. I'm more interested in how many "known issues" will continue to be "known issues".
That makes more sense for realism that you need to download the map for each location you visit, rather than you magically have every map for every ship and location like so many games do.
It's more for gameplay than realism. In reality, all this stuff would be mapped out and easily available. In an mmorpg, they need to find ways to make everything a resource to be traded
Unfortunately (for them) I've completely lost patience with Star Citizen. I contributed to the crowdfund over a decade ago and we still don't have anything close to a working game with only one and a half systems to show for it. Judging by the declining numbers watching their weekly show, it seems I'm not alone. I wouldn't say SC is a scam, but it is the poster child for feature creep.
