Awesome work Tom! I actually work at a Honda dealership here in the states and have driven many FK8s and this rendering is absolutely on point as far as authenticity!

Nice job as always ! I used 3000 Grid sandpaper to prep my AM 720s and have not painted the primer yet should i go lower as you did in this case for better adhesion ?
@TheScalemodelingChannel
@TheScalemodelingChannel Год назад
If you sand it with 3000 grit your almost polishing the surface and making it to smooth. I always use 600 or max 800 before primer

Wouahhh superb achievement in any case, as usual I would be tempted to say... But I have a quick question, what brand of wide masking tape do you use that you used for the bodywork and the window frames?. Thank you for your reply.

Do you dilute your paint before spraying? And if so, with what and what ratio?
@TheScalemodelingChannel
@TheScalemodelingChannel Год назад
That depends. Some paints don’t need it. Others do. No set ratio. Just by feel

Hi Tom, Would a silver base also work well for Ferrari rosso corsa and Ferrari rosso scuderia better than white or pink? Thanks.
@TheScalemodelingChannel
@TheScalemodelingChannel Год назад
Silver or white would roughly be the same. Pink is best for ted though
@lucamicalicapparelli4825
@lucamicalicapparelli4825 Год назад
@@TheScalemodelingChannel Ok, but I made two car bodies with the same rosso scuderia, a plastic kit with a pink base and a resin kit with a silver base. Plastic one on a pink base is lighter with 4 slightly less heavy coats than the resin one on a silver base. Without clear on top I don't understand which color is closest to the correct shade. Maybe on plastic I tend to be less heavy and color stays lighter? I always have this doubt. But if I exaggerate, I risk having a color that is too dark or does it no longer darken after 3/4 coats? I only have these doubts with basecoats and it doesn't happen with LP or TS lacquers or similar.
@TheScalemodelingChannel
@TheScalemodelingChannel Год назад
@@lucamicalicapparelli4825 you will only know if the color is correct, when you hold it next to a real one.
@lucamicalicapparelli4825
@lucamicalicapparelli4825 Год назад
@@TheScalemodelingChannel Haha...I should first buy a Ferrari or more real Ferrari...I'm out of money! Joke. But could the silver base have darkened the red? Or is the more realistic hypothesis that I have to give more hands on plastic? I understand that it is difficult to give me a certain answer also because there are too many variables at stake. I will also do other tests on plastic spoons. Thank you always for your availability.
@TheScalemodelingChannel
@TheScalemodelingChannel Год назад
@@lucamicalicapparelli4825 as you say. I can’t answer this. I was not there when you painted it and have not seen anything. It makes sense that you applied less and thinner coats to the plastic. But a spoon test is your best option

What if you paint the yellow and gloss first, then you mask and paint the flat black ? So you only need to mask once don’t you?
@TheScalemodelingChannel
@TheScalemodelingChannel Год назад
Thats what i’m doing. These parts are staying gloss. The other parts will be done later, they are not black yet
@madfoxcn
@madfoxcn Год назад
@@TheScalemodelingChannel oh I meant you can paint yellow and gloss first then mask and paint flat black on the top, can’t you? So you don’t have to mask 2nd time to get rid of gloss on flat black
@TheScalemodelingChannel
@TheScalemodelingChannel Год назад
@@madfoxcn yes you can. But i do not want these parts matt.

Hey Tom!! I've got a Camaro to paint in yellow too. I primed it tamiya primer grey, sanded it smooth, but I wonder why are you painting silver before yellow?? Does it make yellow easier to paint, 'cause it's a b*tch of a color to paint, dude... 😅
@TheScalemodelingChannel
@TheScalemodelingChannel Год назад
Yes it indeed makes the yellow easier to paint. You can also use a white primer, this has a similar effect to the silver. The brighter the final color. The brighter the base color needs to be. As bright colors usually cover terrible, and with a lichter base color. It covers a lot easier and faster
@NickArcieri

Spoiler alert. It was yellow all along. 🙂

Have you experimented with a 0.5mm airbrush for clear coat? I spray my clear coat with a 0.3mm tamiya airbrush and I find it cloggs up and doesn't flow properly with the small needle.
@TheScalemodelingChannel
@TheScalemodelingChannel Год назад
I have yes. I feel its a bit to big for me and builds up to much clear to fast. As i already tend to spray clear to thick, the 0.3 helps slow me down and feels/works just fine for me. Maybe you need to add more thinners?
@sonotover
@sonotover Год назад
@TheScalemodelingChannel thanks for the info, I'm using auto 2k and it didn't come with any thinners and wasn't really designed for a small airbrush. So I might have to look into a proper 2k kit with a thinner available.
