Alpha Protocol is Obsidian's sometimes-overlooked Spy RPG, and a decade after it launched, I've finally discovered that it's absolutely brilliant.
Alpha Protocol... can't be bought anymore, but I guess you can still look at the Steam page if you really want - store.steampow...

Yeah my only issue was the boss fights. Felt like, since you could do them in any order, they were all balanced the same, effectively making the first one you do the hardest and the third kind of a joke (least thats how i remember it from when i played). if there was some patch to sorta make them scale based on what order you do them in or something i feel would fix pretty much my only problem with this game
@5Andysalive

While I own it on both Steam and PS3, I'm very sad that it is no longer available on Steam and others can't experience it anymore. The pistol skill in this game is totally OP: At later levels, you can charge up and fire headshots without ever leaving cover, and you get the freeze time to line up shots ability which makes all the boss fights trivial (especially, if you also have the ability that instantly resets your cooldowns).
@Jghost11
@Jghost11 4 года назад
Add Steel Core Rounds and Bosses go down even quicker. My first few playthroughs I never used Brilliance or even the Gear upgrade but once I found out how great they are, they are almost used in every run. Here is an extra tip if you equip the extra ammo netting, (I think you can use both upgrades and they will stack), you can bring in extra ammo into the mission then after you gain control of your player you can unequip and still retain your ammo. I have another tip/glitch/exploit that can make or break the game for you depending on how you play, and once you learn it, it will be very hard for you to not utilize it.

neither were "utter garbage". Ui and controls weren't great m/k because too controllery. Other than that the game ( i played it long after release, maybe was bad then?) was pretty good. Obsidian these days makes MMO level fetch and kill quests (95% in tow) which require no AI anyway. A bit of cover searching and scripted paths for the always-in-the-same-place npc. . Neither does Alpha protocol really. I don't see that being possibly a relevant issue in both games.

Jon, I am so happy you decided to check this out, but there are some things I want to say: First, I tweeted about this to you after your Fallout speech video, so I guess you never heard about it on there? It's a truly amazing game, I can't believe more people don't talk about this! Second, in Nasri's mission, it is actually possible to get through without triggering an alarm - you were on the right track, but the option you needed to pick was 'Aggressive' - assuming you wanted to avoid triggering the alarm, of course. Also, if you like being sarcastic, sometimes aggressive can bring truly amazing lines. For example: "I figured I'd just punch people until answers came out." Third, don't forget ammo types! Tranquillizer rounds are available only for pistols and you need to make sure you are using them, but in later missions, those can be very useful indeed! Awesome episode, I hope we see more of this! And remember - NEVER play this once. The joy of this game is repeats, but making different choices or being different classes! You will be amazed at how good this game is, how much variety there is, how much choice there really is!

I have 2 Alpha Protocol stories that come to mind, from back when I played it on the 360 some years ago. 1. A guard was visibly conflicted between turning to chase me, while on patrol, and sticking to his patrol because he technically hadn't "seen" me yet. Because of this constant struggle he just walked a step, turned to try and charge me and then turned around to walk the same step of his partol. This made stealth for this instance impossible as he was by the only stairs leading out of the area. 2. I died at one point during the last area of a mission and, when the game reloaded, the entire area had no enemies. At all. The game forgot to spawn them in. So I just walked around gathering the everything and left the area comfortably without issue. Got all the stealth bonuses and such for being undetected as well.

the games came out in 2010 which was the biggest year for good games in recent history. mass effect 2, red dead, fallout new vegas, alan wake, amnesia, Bioshock 2, assassin creed brotherhood just to name a few. the game was also advertised as being the unofficial 007 games so it drew the attention of golden eye fans who were understandably disappointed while also not gaining any attention from RPG fans. I played this game. The tutorial told me to hold down spacebar to go into cover. I held down spacebar and he ran straight past the cover. This happened until I quit in frustration. That's right, I failed the tutorial.

Doing all the training missions is a huge boost in money and sneak. I love being a recruit over a veteran.

Does anyone else like Jon's videos immediately just coz it's Jon? I have a few RU-vidrs I do that for, like, "I don't need to watch it first, I'm just happy it exists." 🤔😅

I loved this game. However it's weaknesses become more apparent as the game goes on. Full of great obsidian ideas but none are really utilised all that well. I think it flew under the radar because people can't help but compare it to the game it could have been.

I remember this game being referred to as being so incredibly broken that it permanently tainted the game's many many interesting and ambitious mechanics, structure and depth. I don't know if the game ever got a patch to make it more stable, officially or unofficially, but I remember it being referred to as a tragedy that it's unplayable to many.

This seems to be a common occurrence with Obsidian games (at the very least FNV and OW) very buggy and broken games that are really good if you can get past the brokenness.

I played it at launch at Xbox 360 and worked nicely except minor bugs. But yeah, I heard that was a mess on pc

On PC, the main issue was that some of the minigames had really, really, REALLY wonky controls if you were using keyboard + mouse rather than a controller. Otherwise it was a stable game, just really scruffy around the edges. The good more than made up for the bad I think.

Glad to hear you have been awoken to the charm of Alpha Protocol, it's not a perfect game by any stretch, but one of my favourites to play, I got it second hand on Xbox 360 back in the day for a quid, and was charmed heavily, and also own it on Steam, however, I don't see this working as a livestream game: Decision timers are too short for viewer interactivity, and in the action/downtime style your streams follow, this would consume too much time, as downtime in the game is either dialogue needing decisions, or doing very little in a safehouse.

This game looks amazing, and the fact that you are showing it to us and we can't buy it and play it is just mean :) Please do a full play through series some time, so we can at least enjoy it vicariously.

Please play more! So much to offer, with branching choices that really matter. Better than ME any day. I used to see this around for second hand sale on console all the time, and figured no one else liked it. Which confused me, because I always loved it!

This was very enjoyable and pretty much how my first go at this game went lol except I was more melee oriented. I hope you'll play more of this game man.

I came across your channel about a year ago. I love your fallout videos so much. I kind of lost interest in the franchise after 76 but watching some of your old fallout 4 and new Vegas videos i started playing again.

Oh man I loved this game. It's great. So long as you don't try and play it as a Shooter. It's definitely best as a Stealth game. Also now I want a whole series.

Isaiah Bahr it’s fine as a shooter, just spec for it
@SanguineSidereal

@@SahiPie I will concede it's fine. But I still hold it's the less fun way to play, IMO. My second run through I tried to play it as a shooter, fully specced that way and had significantly less fun. It was still a fun game. Just more frustrating and less satisfying a lot of the time. Especially in a few specific missions. (Also I hate doing the stealth tutorial in the armor they give you if you pick the Soldier background. But that's neither here nor there.)

I remember as if I NEVER used the shotgun - didn't know it had a knock back mechanic. 😂 Played this full stealth and tried to please everyone. Might give it another go as i have in in my Steam library.

I remember buying this game in the bargain bin for about $3 or so and while it was jank as hell sometimes and nonsensical at points it was still rather fun. Best $3 I've ever spent, wish I could find the disc again.
