I've had the unit in my '18 JLU since October. Works flawlessly, sounds great (I added aftermarket Hertz speakers all around, and had OEM Alpine sub). One thing Alpine does not mention is that if you have the OEM sub, there is a separate communication interface you will need to purchase in order for the speakers to work. I use wireless Android Auto which works just fine, but about half the time I need to manually connect the Bluetooth from my mobile. (Not sure if this the unit's fault or my mobile). All in all, I'm quite pleased but be aware you will need to shell out some coin. I had mine professionally installed. UPDATE 6/28/23: My Android Auto has been upgraded to v 9.7.632214 and now flawlessly connects to the i509 every time.
Nice head unit, I'd color it all matte black with just a little bit of chrome accents to match the vents. The factory unit does most of the same things, and the ones it doesn't, I don't care about. And it's about $1300 more than I'd pay for it. Thanks for sharing.
I have always preferred Alpine stereos over the years. Ive installed them in just about every vehicle i have owned. But that price is not just way over budget its just overpriced. I installed a Android radio with a 10.5 screen for $400. Works great and has a ton of features ✌️
This radio is mostly for audiophile enthusiasts when you want to expand with external amplifiers, for those that complain about it not having a knob, you can purchase a Bluetooth knob that can be custom installed anywhere, those that want to whine that it only uses the maps off your cellphone, well Alpine has a navigation add on that just plugs into the data usb port when you want navigation without cell tower dependency but the alpine dash cam/rear cam add on is a nice safety option and it will cover your ass not just with the police but it’s a nice incentive especially with your jeeps insurance
@@335ofre yep, to me there is nothing playing on a radio worth $2,400.00. The factory 8.4 CarPlay system that came with my JLUR does everything that unit does that I use daily
The ports aren’t USB-C? What a fail. I hope that can be changed, or this unit is not buyable. I’ve never thought to myself that “I sure wish i had an HDMI port in my Jeep.” What a strange decision.
Nice system, but please clarify what functions are available through bluetooth. Specifically. , does it connect to Maps on an android moblie phone using Bluetooth. or does it require a USB connection?
So I bought alpine's "i409-WRA-JL" from quadretec back in 2021 and it came with no wireless carplay. Is there any way I can upgrade only the computer so it is a i509 instead without re-buying the entire kit?. From the looks of it, they look identical with all it's parts and is equally expensive
I can just say that I WANT this Alpine multimedia system to be installed on my 2020 JLU Sahara unit (for Europe)... But I also want to have the Dash camera module... How can I make it happen ?!?!?!
I feel like this would be much better served on older Wrangler models. The JL already has a pretty good head unit from the factory. Also, the worst thing about this is that they have replaced the knobs that control the volume and seek functions and replaced them with buttons. Knobs are better than buttons, this is a downgrade. The worst aspect of the JL interior is that fact that the temperature control is buttons and not knobs. The fan is a knob, the volume is a knob, and the radio seek function is a knob, so why can't I have a knob(s) control the temperature. Give me that upgrade and I would happily purchase it.
A factory head unit will never sound as good as an aftermarket head unit. There will be so many things you'll have to add to make it sound as good as aftermarket head unit.
This is my exact question. I notice he says it doesn’t have its own navigation and it uses google maps or the Apple Maps ( whatever your phone has access to). What I like about the wranglers map is the turn by turn information right on my dash between my gauges so I can keep looking forward . Especially since I have lost connection with google maps in the past and relied on the wranglers GPS.
