Alpine Type R are great subwoofers and in this video, I show how to repair two different issues. This also applies to the Alpine Type S and Alpine Type X lines of subwoofers.
I did one of these recently and found it helpful to rough up the back surface of the cap and then add some epoxy to most of the cone as well as the glue surfaces. I suggest a slow cure epoxy like our Devil's Jizz epoxy.
I have a pair of the sws 12's , took the dust caps off and coated the cones with epoxy and put 3" poly dome dustcaps then brushed some gloss black model paint over the epoxy on the cones , they look and sound 10 times better ,
That sub sounds cooked - btw I love & swear by these subs in a triple sealed box but if that’s within warranty I’d simply swap it out. Also I highly suggest getting the mesh grilles if installed in a daily driver cuz that $40 saved my gear more times than I care to remember. I been running type R of various generations for 20 years on memphis amps and it’s a match made in heaven.
You only have 1 voice coil hooked up, i heard thats supposed to be bad for the woofer , your supposed to have both sets of terminals hooked up so they are in parallel or series, im not sure myself ,thats just what ive heard
Hey there. Hooking up one voice coil will not damage anything . You are just limited to the performance of one coil (Half of the power). Thanks for watching.
