Want to get feedback on if this will harm my amp or subs. I'm just learning about dvc and coil impedance ohms. I bought these in enclosure from some guy but didn't have much power so started reading about wiring and ohms that's when I noticed they were different coils. You guys have any experience like this and what happens. I have a Orion D2400 amp 2ohms 800w rms. subs are 500w rms. 1242d and 1222d. I've had them wired each separate in series so one at 8ohm, one at 4omh going into one channel so that's why it sounded so weak. Thinking of doing this: one dual 4ohm In parallel so it'll be 2ohm, one dual 2ohm in series so it'll be 4 ohm then connected to each other in parallel comes out to 2 ohm on meter. Other option was wire both series and connect in parallel comes out to 5 ohms on meter. Amp rms on 4 omhs is 450w 2 ohms is 800w and 1 ohms is 1200. Well other than spending more money or just selling one and staying hooked up with one at 450w rms. what else do you guys think.

Both alpine and sonic electronic reps pretty much told me that this wont work and to get matching pair because they'll get uneven power, damage, and sound off.

I have 3 type r's, 2 r 4 ohm n 1 is 2. I left the 2 ohm @ 2 and wired the 2 down 2 2ohms. I'm not having a problem n have been running this way 4 almost a year now

I sold the them after about 2 years running it this way with the amp setup at that time. It worked for me. However it wasn’t recommended but I didn’t have an issue luckily.

I did this exact same on my type r subs one in series one in parallel, final impedance put me at 1.3 ohm. It bump good. Measure the coil individual. They are never exactly 4 or 2. Mine varried by at least .5 ohm per coil this is how I ended up with 1.3 ohm final result...

Yeah it works fine.

I get the feeling this would actually work OK. If you were to run some power through it and see if they get equal power then that would answer your question.

So I have a dual voice coil 4ohm alpine R series wired to 2 ohms and I added a single voice coil 4ohm jbl final impedance is about 1.6 1.9 on an alpine v-power 1000 watt amp, now I can not crank up the volume, gain, or bass as I wish I could but it does work.... so far. Next month I’m just getting a competition 15”

I think it would be best two run two diffrent amps if you wanna go that route

I am pretty sure you will fry one of those voice coils. The impedance is different for both subs. I seem to remember doing this to a couple different makes of 10's i had a while back.

you need a 2 channel amp wire the 4 ohm down to 2 and keep the 2 at 2 they both 2 ohm then they will get the same power
@mikekuzmick542

Ok so dual 4 down to 2 ohm but HOW do you wire the dual 2 to 2 ohm? Yer comment makes no sense.

@@mikekuzmick542 lmao you cannot wire a 2+2ohm sub down to 2 ohms.

i have the newer type r's but i have a question. what are those two wires you have hooked to one subwoofer but not the other? its like on where you push the terminals down, what are those wires for because they came in my subwoofer box but im not sure what they're for
@freakinretardboy

Jumper cable came with speakers from alpine but you can use any wire.

I have the same question cause i went and got a SWR-1221D (DVC 2ohm each) and im probably gonna have a low chance getting another 2ohm dvc and i didnt know if i had to run two amps (one for each) how would i wire a 2 ohm dvc and a 4 ohm dvc to a 4 ohm amp or something if thats possible

It all depends on final impedance. if the final impedance is supported by the amp in its user manual, then you should be fine. telling with the experience. When mixing dual 4-ohm sub with dual 2 ohms, you should be worrying about the Amplifier, not the subs. I.e. If after mixing two, if you getting 1 ohm or 2 ohms or even 1.5 ohms or 2.5 or 3.5 ohms, and your Amplifier says it can support 1 ohm stable, then you should be fine. 1-ohm stable Amplifiers are so good, will handle anything above, but below 1 ohm is not recommended. If the amp can handle the final impedance after mixing up two different types, then you should be fine. Both the subwoofers are getting equal power anyway. Hope that helps.

SAJ@TV if my amp is 1ohm stable and i wire my dvc 2ohm sub to 1ohm and my dvc 4ohm sub to 2ohms will my final impedance be 1.5ohms?
@SAJTV
@SAJTV 7 лет назад
Craig Larson No you should not do that. NEVER MIX 2DVC WITH 4DVC subwoofer. Only two with same impedance can work properly, Otherwise one will be getting more power than the other. EVEN IF THE FINAL IMPEDANCE IS CORRECT.

So nobody here think u can just run them both in parallel to a 1 ohm amplifier wire the 4ohm to 2ohm and wire the 2 ohm to 1 ohm when they meet at the amp should be 1.5 ohm if u know simple math

Will this really work cuz I have the same issue and everyone tells me not to do it... I have dvc cvr's 2 and 4 ohm and u wired the 4 down to 2 and left the 2 alone just wired regularly and I connected each one seperately to my amp it's a monoblock but has 2 speaker terminals

11 year old video at this point, but it looks like you’re going from one DVC2 sub with its 2 ohm coils wired parallel at 1 ohm, and then paralleling that with a DVC4 sub that’s wired with its 4 ohm coils in series at 8 ohms.. all bad. I’m not even sure how that comes up with 2 ohms on your meter.
