i love how alt-j always surprises me with the meaning of their songs, from what i know this one is about a tasmanian devil falling in love with a human, watching her swimming but can't come closer to her as she'll be scared by him. i could only take a story like this seriously in a alt-j song form.

My Granny (named Adeline after her grandmother) has been hospitalized in the ICU for about a month now. The other day an aid came in and said “Adeline is such a beautiful name. You know there’s a song called Adeline by alt-j. It’s a really good song.” I played it for her and she shook her head yes meaning she likes it. 💕 Thank you so much for this. I keep playing it for her.
How the HELL can there be a band that creates album after album of complete fucking gold??? I am SO happy they've released their new stuff! This will be the third album of theirs that I own and hopefully part of a- someday- big collection of their work.
I don't hate the song at all, it just took a while to grow on me. It's a little too slow for me; I really love their songs that have tons of builds and a drop for the chorus and it just gives you goosebumps. I like 3WW to listen to while I'm reading or taking a bath, but I have a hard time getting through the whole thing while I'm driving or doing something that isn't relaxing. I was nervous the entire album would be movie-trackish.

The progression of the song is just so unique. It slowly grows, and the first time I heard it, just expected it to end after "swim on". But when that strange, twisted child like choir exploded, OMG. This is one of the best songs, not just by alt-j.

Been a fan of Alt-J for a while but never knew this song existed, till Fate: The Winx Saga. This song creates a beautiful movie in my head every time I listen to it.

i first heard this song on ‘the gifted’ years ago and it became my most listened song ever on spotify within the year 😅 watched the incredible trailer for ‘society of the snow’ today and now adeline is fresh in my mind again. i wish i could hear the instrumental/stripped down version they used in the trailer!
