steve tamas yessir, I hand polish a lot of my stainless guns, kinda got a habit of doing that! Check out my newest P226 elite Stainless video and my newest sig 1911 Stainless with Rail videos for some highly polished guns.
Chase Carlisle if I Woulnt have been so eager to put mine on I would have probably sent mine back. I understand with wood you cannot get a certain look but I swear they must have made mine out of a different type of wood because my grips look nothing like what they was supposed to in the picture. Not only was this something upsetting but the fact it took forever to get them was very upsetting. Unless I couldn’t find a certain grip I wanted online, I doubt I will ever order from them again.
Chase Carlisle I hate to dog a us based company but I was just very unhappy with my entire order. Maybe if the grips (to my memory) wouldn’t have took over a month to get to me I would not have been so upset or so reluctant to send them back
@@GoldenWebb I have Altamont grips too, my 686 grips came with a long screw and a short screw so it doesn't stick out so far but you could file the long screw down to be shorter. Still exposed though... :(
My 586 came with those same grips. I'm not a fan of the dark brown ether, so I'm going to strip the finish and re color them with red dye and polyurethane.
can you use a speed loader with those grips? I heard somewhere that you couldn't and was just wondering if you had actually used them with these grips.
GoldenWebb those are definitely the Super walnut. because Altamonte does not stain the wood. it's just natural wood so sometimes the wood they get might be lighter sometimes it could be darker. it just varies even with their other colors like their Rosewood sometimes it's very dark and almost black looking and sometimes it's very light and red looking just depends on the wood they get
DTOM Harley thank you for viewing my video sir and thank you for the kind comments! I don’t think that you could Go wrong with either of them personally but there is something about stainless and rosewood that go perfect together!
I bought a new Smith model 40 (classic ) it had these altamont grips on it , checkering cut too deep , if it got bumped in any way while carrying it ,the checkering fell out , I tried to put an older pair of j-frame grips on , not even close on the fit , called the Smith &Wesson people and was told the grips were exclusive to THAT gun , had to give them the serial # , they sent me an identical pair (FREE!) as soon as I installed and gently tightened them down , one cracked , I wound up altering an older pair to fit , i would never recommend a pair of altamont grips, they are trash .As far as the screw sticking out , simply take 1 or 2 very small washers and put them under the grip screw on (if you’re pointing the gun) the left side , you won’t see them and the exposed screw will not be protruding .
My pleasure. I bought grips for my 642 and I commented on them that I was left handed and had ordered those grips because I was told the grips were ambidextrous. I commented that there was a slightly higher swell on the left side but I'd live with it. Not good enough for Altamont! I was sent a new pair probably that day because they got here very fast. They included a label to ship the others back. I love them! Thank you. I'm now looking for a set for my new 686 P. Altamont all the way.
Marckunkel you know what, I forgot when I made this review to add, they make your grips when you first order them, there not (well mine wasn’t already made anyway) setting on a shelf ready to be sent out. Mine took around a month and a half to get there. I was somewhat aggravated because of that but it was okay. So just keep that in mind when buying them.
