Hi guys, Just a little survey here. -What are your Top 10 Unique Leader Records band and their albums? Both old and new. I would appreciate all your inputs. Thanks \m/
I still really dig these new songs but it seems to me they've taken a backwards step compared to their first album Immortal. The vocalist was really unique in the first album and this one just sounds like every other vocalist. While I still dig it, I just hope they have that freshness that was on the first album in the other songs on this new album.
Hello, Cristopher. In the first place, I did not want my comment to sound ironic or anything like that. Yes, this band is very different from AlterBeast, for the latter being a band of Technical Death Metal with nuances of Deathcore; and that makes use of harsh vocals more in the line of "tunnel throat scream" in some chorus and a vocal base of "Modern Death Metal", however, extremely tributary of the "Death Growl" type guttural, standard in style in any variants, whether old or modern. Well, as far as Kataklysm is concerned, there is a similarity I see in vocalist Michael Alvarez, which is much closer to the Death Metal style (traditional or modern) than its predecessor, Barn Barnard (Fallujah), which allows more comprehensive the hybrid form of vocalization, something that excels at exploring the Death / Deathcore forms (I do not mention the fact that there is in both performances the presence of vocals in the TTS style, as these are expensive to the band, they are part of the style and how to write their songs). I just activated this one AlterBeast song to work out this comparison, I can not attest to the whole album, and from what I've heard of the other songs already available, there are no similarities to Kataklysm in them, at least not that they are worthy of note. I justify myself to say that "The Maggots Ascension" exhibits some features of the old "Northern Hyperblast" or, as I often say: of the current Extreme Melodic Death Metal practiced by Maurizio and Co., and I do so, only stating that the time of the piece and the cadence of the drum pedals (in fact, Alex Bent is incredible, simply masterful) refer to the intermediate jobs of the canadians, at the time of Shadows and Dust, and also more recent things. As for the vocals, I would like to point out that Alvarez's style is similar to that used by Iacono, because of the way he sings (although there are more vocals, which are not seen in the Kataklysm's works). more general similarities with The Black Dahlia Murder or Arkaik, kept in due proportion. Another point that caught my attention was the production of the album, which referred me to what I have seen in albums such as Prevail (2008) or Heaven's Venom (2012), in an excellent work by the band's drummer, Jean-François Dagenais. Sorry to be so long. I end by saying that AlterBeast has its own identity, although it does not do a work so different from many others that we see of the genre, it does it with unmatched mastery, a lot of technique and feeling, it sets it apart from others in this subgenre. Thank you and sorry for anything!
Ehhhh.... Seems much less... Idk. I mean, in Immortal there wasn't a single song that didn't have some catchy yet technical sweeping and tapping riffs, I haven't really heard much in these 2 songs so far other than the designated solos... It's okay still, idk. I'll have to wait till the album is out for a final decision
I seen Alterbeast a couple months ago and met the guys. They said this album isn't gonna be as tech death as Immortal but more blackened and more groove.
I agree 100%. The new vocalist is... okay. He's nowhere near as good as the original, though. That's honestly my only gripe with either of the new tracks. Music is fucking bad ass. Just not crazy about his vocal tones, nor how they're SO up front in the mix.
