My name s Sue Ellen and I'm a recovering perfectionist! Ha, ha. Seriously though, because of your example I hear myself now saying, "I'm okay with that." Words I thought I'd never utter. There really is no place for perfectionism in mixed-media. Now I let the art tell me what it wants to do instead of trying to control it. Thanks LorriMarie. You're better than therapy!
Sue Ellen Siebert I have a similar person in my head telling me if you make a mistake it doesn’t matter rather you can see it or not. Take it out and do it right. This person is my mom. She is a perfectionist in all she does. It’s really hard to really enjoy art when you think it all has to be perfect. LorriMarie is helping me be ok with ok.
👏🏻What she said!! I am new here, and it's a YEAR AFTER Sue Ellen made these observations, but just today I was telling a friend how I have quickly become a binge-watching LorriMarie addict, hoping my new personal mantra will soon become, "I'm okay with that.". So when I saw this, I just had to comment. 🙋♀️ Me, too!! I am SO glad to have found your creative channel! 👏🏻
I work with those who have severe anxiety, PTSD, addictions, etc. with shaky housing- I have been watching you and planning an evening of junk art / mixed media evening to play and group chats while we are at it. Nearly all consider themselves artists and have found and kept stuff that most people do not notice so these things will be perfect for them to use and getting them to show up for a little life skills and a safe group to hang out with for a while. Thank you for teaching us. You are so talented!
oh my goodness cg.....that has made my heart sing......i wish i could come and play on the table with you!!!! thank you so much for joining us here!!!! see you on the table cg!!!
I really like the color combination. The gelleto pens are so neat. The blending was just the right amount. The noise on the page was bold and loud. The finished piece said fly away with me. Fun fun. You rock...Lorrie Marie thanks for the playtime this morning.✍️💛
You and your "glorious hands" make the greatest creative pages and backgrounds. Once it was all said and done, I loved the colors and texture. Loved how you simply used your fingers to smooch around varnish and color! A real hands on kinda gal!
thank you darling...you make 'stained hands' sound so lovely!!!! the final 'background' turned out so well...yep...sometimes i am surprised too!!!! love ya lynn...
Ha! Reminds me of vintage dominoes that were used to play in the overgrown garden, flowers, soft colors, vines, under the arbor on a stone table!!! Voila! A Masterpiece! Loved this video, and the inspiration you brought, and my vision, I saw thru my eyes! Amazing! Hugs! Love! Roseanna 🙃💞
good morning roseanna! so good to hear from you! thank you for the lovely comment! i am so glad you are on the table with me!!! go create, go play, go have fun! love you!
tee hee jenn- i adore the backgrounds...layers, layers, layers....the more layers...the more energy! thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment jenn!!! see you on the table!!!
thank you teresa....fun piece to watch come to life! layers, layers, layers....right? many layers do a great background create....or something like that....see you on the table teresa....
Hi LorriMarie - i loved this technique so much that i did this twice in my book - no focal points yet - but oh do i love making backgrounds with you - thank you for your inspiration ~ hugs xx
i am supposed to be focusing on teaching you the backgrounds....so i put the warning up there about the focal points...i kind of cracked myself up! lol....see you on the table jean!
oh thank you sarah maria for taking the time to leave a comment! so many fun techniques to play with...yay.....so.....see you on the table sarah maria!
I love how each technique you apply adds depth of field. and dimension to this fun project. that texture is great! so many possibilities and you come up with many exciting yummy ones.
hey there agp.....somebody is going through some videos.....thank you!!!! when we are new to the layering of mixed media...all the layers feel like a waste of time...'you just cover them up'....but each layer adds its own life...its own energy...dimension!!! i love all the layers....so.....thank you for your support agp! i so appreciate the comments! see you on the table....
I love to watch the way you bring a page to life, how it develops its own personality as you add new substrates onto the page. You are such an inspiration, and my favorite RU-vid artist, LM❣️
After playing along with you I realised why I had resisted doing underpants with other artists. I too need to have mine in order. Thank you for that, I’m so enjoying layering now. What a revelation! Who knew that could be a thing especially when my studio is totally unordered (shamefully so). Thank you, I’m loving it now 😻
nail on the head sue...what the heck....total chaos in the studio...can barely walk through it...but oh yes.....got to have my underpants on straight....geez....lol....thank you for being in my 'orderly underpants' club! lol....see you on the table sue!
thankyou for your inspiration I did this project with you and I am in love with my results I did turquoise and violet colors and it is just awesome All I have to do is find my focal points Thanks again
those darned focal points, right penny?! did you have fun creating this background? sounds like you love the results....that makes me so happy....when an art piece feels good it is like a big refreshing breath....i adore that! see you on the table penny!
Lol! I look forward to hearing your voice of inspirational & encouragement 😍🤗 I’m almost done with my 2nd book 👏🏼😁 This is a new avenue for me since I’m used to altering books into journal ones. 😌thank you for inspiring to step into a new plateau 😘
oh my goodness spc....i am so grateful that you are trying something new...that is how we grow...inside and outside...right? good girl!!! i love the altered books for many reasons...one of those is that each page is like a mini art piece....love that! sooooo....go create, go play, go have fun!!!
wahoo is right anne....welcome to patreon! i believe it is a great investment of $10 a month...images, focal points and step by step instructions? be still my heart! lol! thank you so much for your support!!! see you on the table....
thank you so much for leaving a comment mft! the background was so much fun to watch come to life....and i love the focal points too....thanks! see you on the table...
hey paula....good to see you on the table my friend...i love all the layers....are you going to play with this one? i know you love the gelatos girlfriend! go create, go play, go have fun!!!
You are one of my favorites to watch! I absolutely love your creativity, musings and expressions! “Villagers” and “underpants” are my 2 favorites. Thanks for sharing 💜
oh regina...villagers and underpants...tee hee! this is such a fun piece to watch come to life! thank you for the support! see you on the table regina!!!
ohhhhhh....'interesting' is what people say about art when they do not know what else to say! lol! good thing you said 'beautiful looking pages' first....and it is a good thing that i know you love this kind of mixed media 'stuff' veroni! see you on the table girlfriend!
So beautiful 💕 I feel the inspiration is coming back 😄 summer hit me, an l lost my mixed media inspiration 🙈 but now I can feel it is coming ,and that l want to play with my stuff...😍 thank you for inspiration
oh my goodness wenche....welcome back! i hope you are playing on the table with 'us'!!! it is so much fun to play with other like minded people...right? go create, go play, go have fun!!!
I do get angry when people steal another's exact style. I saw a lot of that happen after, Mark Ryden, came out. I do realize when I get inspired by a particular artist, a bit of the style can leak through my subconscious and show up in my work from time to time. I hate it when someone says, that looks like... I understand how the brain works in that regard, but I still feel insulted because I want to come from my authentic self. So I appreciate you sharing the good stealing/bad stealing article. I love to learn about new techniques because that gets my creativity flowing. Thank you. Nice tutorial.
oh my gosh bunny....i hope you are finding inspiration here...i telll my students to 'copy' until they develop their own 'style'. there is no way to copy somebody completely...we hold our supplies differently...sometimes heavier sometimes lighter...we have our own favorite colors to play with...well you get the idea...steal like an artist my new friend!!!
@@lorrimarie2002 Oh, yes. I am 100% finding inspiration from your teachings. That's why I'm watching so many of them! I love to learn techniques because they inspire me. For example when you teach something, let's say like your dangling heart with the fishing lures, I think, wow, I can use this technique for this or that. Or this is how I would use or shift this technique for my own art. (I do have a fb page if you're interested in seeing my work).
thank you crosez....lots of layers in this background...did you like the 'warning' before the focal points? i am supposed to be focusing on the backgrounds but i cannot help it....i just go forward with the focal points.....no discipline at all...lol!!!!! see you on the table crosez...
No wonder you are happy with it, it is a fabulous background. No ochre this time, I am surprised. lol Actually yellow earthy ochre is one of my favorites also. So I certainly don't mind seeing it. I love the gesso texture with the mag page. Haven't tried that yet but love the looks of it. Thanks for the video. So enjoyed it and was extremely inspired. -Marsha from Texas
oh you just get busy playing marsha! lol...the texture with the gesso is so much fun!!! and then, of course, layers, layers, layers....right? thank you for staying connected! go create, to play, go have fun!!!
thank you mary ellen...are you creating in your pajamas? lol....i do...A LOT!!! so happy you are here and being playful! see you on the table mary ellen!
Little by little I can feel more dimension come into my work. I still cringe sometimes when I “think” you’re done and you come in with another paint or ink, but now I get it and your outcomes are always stupendous!
layers, layers, layers my friend gail...it adds so much energy...i am glad you are giving it a try....the biggest fear, i think, is 'oh no, will i ruin it?' and lo and behold...it just keeps getting better!!! see you on the table gail...
thank you carolyn....it is my pleasure to share and play, and share and play! i love creating the videos....it keeps me inspired too! see you on the table carolyn....
well rlwaaw....when i watch...and edit the videos...i think...'i said that?' oh well...i guess i am leaving that in...i get into the 'zone' of creating and then i say...or do not say...some pretty weird things....thank you for giggling with me! see you on the table...
thank you thank you thank you sheri! 2 people out of the whole youtube village mentioned the 'steal like an atist' and i, for one, think it is an awesome book!!! see you on the table girlfriend...
dearest tzjj.....thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment! this was really a fun background to play with!!! are you playing along? see you on the table girlfriend....
Because there aren't enough Susans... anyhow I love it too! That's a beautiful blimp isn't it? I've had a pretty stressy day so was really nice to see you post a video. There are angels everywhere.
yep....a gorgeous blimp....and i do not know if you can see it but the woman is attached kind of like a hot air balloon....kind of fun...kind of creepy...kind of me! lol...thank you susan...can never have too many susans! lol...see you on the table...
Yumm-o-licious!! Just love the possibilities with this background. And how the mind wanders... why is your gelatos box so plain? I am surprised it is not embellished!! HA Ha Ha!!! Oh, that may be a challenge, LorriMarie!! ;)
I know you have to play with those spray inks...but both my bottles of blue and walnut spray--do not drip or add drips- just a whole spray no matter what I try---so at times I want those drips like the purple did for you in this video---so sad it won't just drip...I am thinking about just taking off the lid and actually using it like we do the toothbrush - tap, tap, tap...silly inks anyway!! Worth a try I guess- also have a little eye dropper- may try that instead as well.
nope....not accepting the challenge Brandy...lol! i love the old cigar boxes just as they are! if they are falling apart...then i put some #underpants on them and then embellish them.....you are relentless!!!! and i love you for it!!! see you on the table my dear friend!
i knew that this comment was for the book debbie...lol...thank you...i usually read the comment and then look at the side bar picture...so i totally got it! thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment...a fun challenge...i cannot wait for gail to get her hands on it! see you on the table debbie!!!
i love the 'grunge'!!!! and i am supposed to be cutting out focal points right now...but i am visiting with 'our village'...i am having way too much fun! see you on the table tammie...and thank you for leaving a comment!
Twice during the video you had me worried but TaaDaa out came the stamp and then the sandpaper.....Love the background .Im still not arting yet ,this flu has me low ,that and having to look after my sister who is still really sick with it .But I have started looking in the focal image box so it won't be long till my hands are dirty again.
i hope you are feeling better everyday...it must be nerve wracking to watch me...screaming...NO....LEAVE IT ALONE....IT IS FINE! and then i do not listen and i just keep covering things up and adding to it...until finally I SAY...ta da....thanks for hanging in there with me! feel better and go create!!!!
One more thing. I know awhile back, you showed the Village an altered book cover as you were working on it. (Old TJs grocery bag) I have several finished books, but would love some more LM inspiration for cover ideas! Just mull this over...;)
oh my gosh....almost 11,000 subscribers here on our RU-vid channel and you are the only one that has commented on 'stealing like an artist'...i thought it was such a great thing to share....hmmmm....maybe not! lol....thank you so much for leaving a comment about that! see you on the table debra!
Hi LorrieMarie, thanks for the reference to the book How To Steal Like An Artist. I’d been worried about imitating your work so I haven’t posted more than one page on Instagram but I did # you. Also, about Patreon. I want to join and I will...I just have to find out about the exchange rate....AND... I might see you in NZ. My brother lives in Matta Matta and I’m due to visit him next year so I’ll try to make it coincide with your trip there. Watching you here in Sydney right now, of course. I’m also scouting around for a huuuuge coffee cup like yours. Hoping you’re not anywhere near those bushfires in California, my geography is bad but keep safe, dear lady, wherever you are. 💕💕
good morning michelene! what a lovely check in!!!! thank you....parts of our town were evacuated...other parts of our town had no power...we were blessed and safe! thank you! would love to have you in the christchurch workshop!!! woot woot!!! we mimic until we develop our own voices michelene...i encourage you to mimic as long as you need to! i mimic too!!!! lol...so....go create, go play, go have fun michelene!!!
oh france! i would love to give a workshop in france!!!!! i am so glad that you are playing with me on my meager table in Vallejo, California! thank you sylvie for leaving a comment! go create, go play, go have fun!!!
Hee hee hee!! I use a LOT of dictionary and word reference book pages in my underpants art! I keep forgetting to ask where one gets a silicone brush?? Enlighten us please!! It looks like a lot of fun to play with! Love this background, it will work well on my altered boxes!
Hi LM! Love you soul siStar💚✌🏻 about the steal like an artist ( love btw😂👊) I was watching art journal flip thru’s on RU-vid & found this girl who had copied you TO A TEE!!! I mean looked like your work... she did not mention you anywhere!!! So I left a comment telling her she should credit you- that I ‘take your RU-vid art classes’ as well & I knew which videos she had copied... & that you deserved credit. Funny, quite a few ppl jumped in saying they watched u as well & praised your art. Anyway I’m glad u put this in ur video today👊 it’s important. Ok I need to watch the rest of vid now. Peace & love LM.
rlwaaw....my hero! thank you so much for the support! a past student of mine...(i do not know if that is who you ran into or not....names shall be changed to protect the 'innocent')....has really done a great job of copying me....i have encouraged her to 'find her own voice'...but alas....she enjoys my voice i guess....it is such a great 'practice' to know...that all is well....but oh....it does 'get my goat' sometimes....lol....can't be spiritual all the time....right? lol....see you on the table...
No one should copy, take inspiration. But if someone does it is the highest form of flattery. You are amazing so that must be why it happens. Hopefully in the future she will see the light and give credit where credit is needed. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us all. Your videos are amazing right down to the underpants!
That was happening on a FB group I was in. The admin started a new monthly challenge of altered books. I had never done it before, so I jumped in. After the first couple of videos, I was impatient. So I checked RU-vid, found LorriMarie, realized the admin was using LM's ideas as her own. I debated about what to do. Finally mentioned your name in a comment, then a couple other people did too. She is still doing it but calling it an altered ART book and as far as I know, doesn't use your ideas any more. I need to check to make sure.
now i am curious....could you please email the name of this silly imposter....i would like to encourage them to create with their own voices....and i can do that kindly....thank you so much my village....you have got my back...and i have yours....these gifts i share freely....i really do...with love....LorriMarie
I take it people have been giving you trouble for painting over book images! Honestly I like that. I like that about the underpants too; secrets. Additions that add to the sentiment and emotional quality even if the visual component is lost... it may not be seen, but it's felt and that's just as important imo.
Have you ever thought about doing a video on how you clean your brushes? I think I've ruined several because I'm not sure how to get glue or acrylic out correctly.
now amanda....that would be one short video...it would go something like this....'take your baby blue brush, that you use for everything, and plop it is some water'.....'leave it there until you cannot stand the color of the water'....'wash with dawn'...repeat! lol....i hope you got a giggle out of that! lol....as you can see...i have no special way to clean my brushes...i just leave them sitting in the water...but i am at my table everyday (almost)....hope that helps...see you on the table amanda!
oh karen....i wish i had some fancy 'artist' answer for you....but alas....i pick the colors that i am attracted too....i do have a certain palette that continues to show up in my work....ochre, turquoise, pinks, and some occasional purple..just play with your favorite colors karen! go create, to play, go have fun!!!
you are so good carol! you are way more present than me....i just wanted the lid! lol....did not even think about spilling the varnish...glad it did not happen tho! see you on the table...
I was laughing you don't. Like loose edges coming up, I thought you were going to say you don't like loose underpants hehe, oh no a bit of underpants came up! Sorry Lorri, you can tell I have been lying here all day resting after chemo and trying to amuse myself with the little bit of energy I have now I am binging on your vids so you have taken over the amusement job, oh no! You just said some gesso went in the crack, stop already, I will choke soon much ❤️ from NZ
i hope you are resting sue!!!! and i will be your amusement any time!!! are you going to be able to join us in auckland in march? and we do have an odd sense of humor with the whole 'underpants' thing! lol...so...art and laughter...universal healers!!! xoxo
i do not use them because they wrinkle a bit too much...even for me! lol...and nope...they do not absorb very well either...but...as usual...use what you have laurel!!
okay....here is the deal anne....you come and live with me for about a year and we will work together on that book....lol! i am soooooo not that focused...i have tried to be...but alas...i end up playing on the table...i need a minion...right? maybe one of these days....thank you for the positive feedback...and the nudge in that direction...who knows what the future will hold! see you on the table anne...
They are all works of art you do great work but what do you do with the journals after if someone made a journal like yours what do they do with them I am making one best wishes Vivienne from Tasmania
i sell them in galleries, i sell them through youtube and facebook and i have them published in different mixed media and journaling magazines...my family members cannot get enough of them...lol! so i just creating more...and more....and more....i create them for me mostly....mini art pieces...ahhhhhh....thank you for asking vivienne....i hope i answered your question...see you on the table...
LorriMarie Jenkins Yes, I am using what I have at home now, some from kids, some from my late mother in law ( she was a abstract artist , too bad, I was not interested to paint until I met you. We gave away a lot of her art materials to a art school ). ❤️
Quick question -I am buying some Mod Podge at Amazon - what type do you use I am seeing the Matt mat mat one that is sealer glue and finish is this the right one?
I love how this turned out, beautifully done!..I do not have many supplies to try this ie. varnish/spray paints but it does look so effective 😊...the Stabilo gives it a great finish result too....do you always glue 3 pages together, I think I have just ruined the book I just bought as there was so many pages in it and I ripped a whole load out but still had too many pages left so ended up glueing far too many pages together then had to rip more out, I wasted nearly a full bottle of Mod Podge and I'm not really happy with how it looks, the Mod Podge is taking ages to dry out, think I used way too much! 😏...I'm gonna look for another book with less pages and buy some more Mod Podge, I want it to look as pretty as yours 😊💜
@@lorrimarie2002 I got a new book, less pages and this one is sewn, I don't think the other one was, didn;t have my glasses with me lol, I will need to go back and find your video on how to take out the pages etc, is it always 3 pages you glue together hunni, I don't want to mess up this one? 😊
@@angelbabesuz1612 no glassses? yikes!!! lol...each project in the book may require more or less pages glued together...glue them together as you go suz...breathe...breathe...breathe....see you on the table suz!
@@lorrimarie2002 Ok, I will give it a try, the last book i ripped out the pages and glued them all first, then I noticed on some of your videos you are glueing them as you go along, silly me 😍
i was wondering, do you have any particular places you like to buy or order your stamps from? i've seen some neat ones at my local michael's, but nothing like the large dot one you have in this video. i'd love to do some more stamping on my work so i was curious.
i wish i could be more help in that area brittany...a lot of my stamps are from the past....and a lot of my stamps have been passed on to me....have you looked on amazon? they are sooooo pricey! amzn.to/2LKykyX check this one out love....i cannot see the size of it ...see you on the table....
Hi you lovely LorriMarie - once again I love your video. What kind of fabric do you use to mend the books with? Cotton? Linen? Well thanks again for the videos - they bring me so much inspiration
here is the link to my 'baby blue' brush jane....i hope this helps..it is truly a wonderful brush for 'all occasions'..... amzn.to/2MbvxMe see you on the table jane...
Thank You.....beautiful pages like always!!!! I read this book too and gave to a friend! There is another fun book called: Your Inner Critic is a Big Jerk and other truths about being creative. By Danielle Krysa! This one truly changed the way I think.... I'm freer then ever!!!!😎😎😎
there are a couple of women that i meet with every two weeks for 'book study'...(and i use those words loosely...for we study nothing!) but that sounds like a great book....we have done the 'Artist's Way' a few times....this book you are suggesting sounds like the perfect book for us!!! thank you!!! see you on the table carol!!!
yes....i believe cheesecloth will work....i use the muslin because....'that is what i have'...lol!!! hudson is waiting patiently at home for me to return....give ricky a little chin scratch from me! see you on the table...
thank you for asking sue! the glass necklace was created for me by handsome hubby....the metal beaded one is from a 'carpet swatch sample'...what? i know, right? both necklaces are very easy to wear and my grand babies love to play with them....lol! see you on the table sue!
he is way more talented than i am....he actually has a masters in 'glass'...me? a self taught (outsider) artist....and i would not have it any other way...lol! see you on the table sue...
I found the book 'Steal as an artist' by Austin Kleon on the internet as a complete free download document! Here the link✨ oceanofpdf.com/pdf-epub-steal-like-an-artist-10-things-nobody-told-you-about-being-creative-download/
thank you lydia....what a great find! that book is a quick and easy read....we all inspire one another that is for sure!!! see you on the table lydia...
I hope you and your house are ok. I'm really worried about you guys. I don't know where exactly the fires are with relation to your house but hoping they not anywhere near you. XO
Sorry to whine but didn't like the camera angle for this video.. Didn't take away from the wonderful work, or the inspiration I got from this though 😀💖 I am in awe of your work.
how about that julie....it is in the usual spot that i make my videos...hmmmmmm....i will have to examine that...could you please be more specific...i will watch it again to see what i can pick up....thank you!!!
LorriMarie Jenkins Hi.. the angle just seemed to be skewed on a sort of downward angle. Not very specific but to me it was not as ‘face on’ as your other videos appeared. But, as I said, it was still a joy to watch you work, and to see the finished piece.
you do not compute! i say that when i do not understand something...lol! not everyone 'computes'....it looks like you are doing just fine with what you ARE doing....go create, go play, go have fun!!!
