From sculpting to painting (acrylics by hand, airbrush & oils), I share all the steps of drastically customizing this Breyer Proud Arabian Mare (PAM) for National Model Painting Month (NAMOPAIMO) 2022.
I publish videos once a month sharing my adventures in creating horse and animal art in my free time for my own enjoyment, like sculpture, painting, printmaking and more. If you enjoy watching the adventures of an artist making things by hand, and sometimes learning something new, I’d love to show you what I make next!

This is nothing less than wondrous! I ruined many a model back in the 70's when I was a young collector, then put it all aside for years. Now I'm about to saw a bunch of scratched up models to do a project but I may just have to see if I can give something like this a try - I enjoyed this to pieces! Thank you for your at!

Aww, thank you! I’m happy to hear you enjoyed it. And yes! Breathe new life into those ponies. I think that’s one of my favorite aspects of customizing; beloved plastic models can get another life as a work of art. Wishing you the best of luck and all the fun on that artistic journey!

Awwww, that’s wonderful to hear. I’m glad you have a couple to treasure! I found my first one when I was 14, a near mint dapple grey complete with original 1970s box (which the budding graphic artist in me was thrilled to find) and that sparked my interest in getting another to customize many years later! I love the two of them together

Kristen I feel every moment of your pain through this process! Thank you sincerely for sharing. Being an artist is like being a scientist! You are incredible. I feel like I know you just from your process. I’m the type of person that has to know every single tiny detail ti every process and I’m not satisfied until I do. I love your tenacity and I commend you and love your process. Thank you so so very much for sharing! The tiny amount that you have shared has definitely given me the path I’ve needed to go! You can’t possibly record every single detail and these things are trial and error depending on environment etc etc. safety first always! Thank you so much my friend. I love your work and I can tell you are a kind soul. God bless you and many good future molds to you my dear! Xoxo

Your channel just showed up. The PAM is one of my favorites, and was my first Breyer model back in the 1970's the black charcoal with white. This remake is beautiful . Adding the mare parts is great. It's always been a disappointment of the models, not having them, it adds realism to the model. I have wanted to remake the Black Stallion model. The right side is nice but the left is way off. I would want to paint it to look like the real horse it's based on. Cas'Ole. From San Antonio Arabians. The star of the movie. He is my all time favorite Arabian horse. Although he didn't match the description from the books Cas'Ole is very close. Wish I had the confidence to attempt the remake. Your work is spectacular.
@CreativeKristenTaylor
@CreativeKristenTaylor 24 дня назад
Cass Ole was a handsome horse! I think resculpting a Black Stallion model sounds awesome and you should definitely try it! Also, I believe confidence comes after trying something and grows with each new experiment. I didn’t have it when I started in making art the first time as it was all new to me then, so I just dove in to see what I could make and where the process would take me. All you really need to start is an idea that excites you, and it sounds like you have one!

Daaamnit, that's amazing I started my project two weeks ago and I can't figured how to make the mould properly,as her posture is a bit awkward. Wilde with her head down to a side and her right leg just up beside the face. I think I might get a three parts mould. Wish me luck 🤞
@CreativeKristenTaylor
@CreativeKristenTaylor Год назад
Awww, thank you! Definitely take your time. I rushed a bit through the planning stage of my first mold for my first sculpture, and for the second mold I spent a week just doing tiny bits of work each day to plan the parting lines and that was far more enjoyable. You’ve got this!!!

Wow! This transformation and tutorial is AMAZING! I’m inspired to finally begin with my first custom on a beat up Breyer Hyksos Arab model! I would love to know what airbrush/compressors do you recommend? And do you use pastels ever?
@CreativeKristenTaylor
@CreativeKristenTaylor 7 месяцев назад
Awww, thank you! And yay on your first custom!!! Wishing you all the fun 😊 My experience with pastels is pretty limited, as I fell in love with other mediums like acrylics and poof, time went by 😅 I may try pastels in the future. From what I remember, it was easier to get soft blends with them as a beginner until I developed my brush painting skills, so if you’re interested in them I would definitely check out Daisy Stalls here on YT and Stephanie Blaylock on instagram as they work with pastels a lot. Deejaybe also uses them in combination with acrylics (a combo that’s really cool to see!). As for airbrushes, it’s a pretty personal and price-related choice that changes from person to person, so I’ll say there’s a few things I wish I knew before I started (and hopefully this helps!): - The compressor is more important. You can have the world’s most expensive, high performance brush and it will perform poorly if your compressor is under powered or takes a long time to recharge, so spend the time to research as it will be either your best friend or enemy 😅 - Airbrushes are often steeply marked up at brick and mortar art/hobby chain stores (even after using a 40% off coupon). Do your research to find the best price and consider airbrush dedicated online sellers as they often give the lowest price and best selection - Every brand of airbrush has entry, mid and top tier product offerings. Even if budget is a concern, the entry level may or may not be a fit depending on how much you want to use it. I found that entry level performance wasn’t comparable to mid and top tier brushes, especially for tasks like details. The entry level brushes I purchased were difficult to work with for my tasks and given how much I used them, broke constantly (the spring loaded triggers were the first to go, sometimes in as little as 3 months). I spent enough money replacing entry brushes with entry brushes over the years that I could have saved my money and purchased a top tier brush from the start. Also, if a part does break in a higher end brush, they’re often designed to disassemble and easily replace that part and the entry levels often aren’t designed to disassemble - Given the above, ask yourself how much you want to use it and what you want to do. If you just need something every now and then to quickly spray primer or maybe a basecoat that you later brush paint over, then a budget brush might be worth it. For anything else I’d recommend researching the other two tiers first Here are a few resources that might help you find your perfect airbrush/compressor set up: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HHWw-SQ-xU0.htmlsi=hhElYsaDmJOVizjB ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2a9xuDa7gfs.htmlsi=qeJeCKg4eyv4ifsj www.reddit.com/r/minipainting/s/sVfprs8HzZ www.reddit.com/r/minipainting/s/mX4A2W68kE

A truly beautiful sculpting work on the neck and loved the mane and tail. Were the bumps and wrinkles already present on the muzzle. I believe the muzzle, and of course, the eyes represent so much. I did see a video on painting a roan with the look of hair (that was a wow!) However, I'm not sure how I feel about the hair on your model (I say this with great respect for your wonderful talent). This is my 2nd video, so what do I know. Keep up the great work.
