I would honestly really like a sequel to Gods and Monsters, not as an edgy "evil superman" story that is oversaturated nowadays, but just a generally different take on the formula and character dynamic, for example I am curious how this universe would handle Green Lantern, Aquaman, The Flash and Martian Manhunter.
Kryptonians are supposed to represent the evolution of Human society. The concept of DNA scanners, Incubation chambers and genetic compilers isn't far from our own society. I mean it would remove the part of two people having sex, but allow two people to be able to have a child at all. Like two people who are not compatible, remove any defects, illnesses or less than desirable qualities and traits. This process would even allow gay and lesbian couples to have a child together. When you think about it, this isn't far from we are now. But Supermans parents still had sex.
The detail I find most interesting with this version of Superman is how it highlights his "immigrant status". Regular superman is written as an immigrant who comes to Earth which became his adopted home. This version is the same except he is raised by illegal immigrants and although he has a loving family he never feels truly adopted by the Earth and is why he is the more cynical antihero and not the classic hero boy scout
The message with Gods and Monsters Superman No matter what happens in your life and when you grow up it shows you have a great understanding and a ideal for what is right but knowing when to do things for the right reasons and be there to help fix things
@@comicbookreviewer4856I think that's a constant theme for like 90% of Supermans in the multiverse, hell even in the WW2 universe where kal-el crash landed in Germany in WW2. He was starting to have the "are we the baddies" moment
5:55 Yeah, this explains why I felt uncomfortable about how he was born. So this Superman was like a good version of Homelander from The Boys. He's reckless and violent, but at least he has better moral standards.
One of the things I really liked about this Superman is that he had grown up believing Zor-El, a brilliant scientist who had predicted the destruction of his planet, was his father. It wasn’t until much later in his life, after he had been living as an adult and acting as Superman for a while, that he learned the truth about how his father was actually General Zod, the same man who had destroyed the planet. But rather than lash out at Luthor (who had been the one responsible for hiding the truth out of fear Hernan would act like his father) OR take it as a sign that he should follow along in his real father’s path, Hernan instead did the opposite. He realized that he couldn’t continue with his previous behavior, and that instead he needed to actively work towards being a shining example for others to follow.
I really enjoyed this take on Superman, I think it makes him a more complex and nuanced character than the mainline Superman we're all pretty familiar with, and used to. Now if at some point the mainline Superman and the Gods and Monsters Superman were to meet, I think it would be potentially interesting because mainline Superman would basically meet someone that was much more brutal than him but ultimately proved his core belief that a good person can come from someone that's not quite good themself, and the Gods and Monsters Superman would meet someone that basically was the epitome of everything he is striving for but also in a way grew up with blinders on so is not as aware of just how much people can, and are, be exploited.
This Superman actually more likeable if you see him as a whole. Our Superman is just good because he was born as such, sure you can say he struggling as a childhood because of his superpower and all, but the Kent is perfect family for him. This one though he was haunted by the guilt of wounding his little sister, fearing himself all his life, and laterfound out he is a son of villain. I was amazing seeing him grew into proper human.
When I think of a Darker more "Real" Superman, This Superman is the one I think of, Superman son of Zod. I actually would love to see the "Gods and Monsters" universe explored more or even be crossed over into the main continuity Be one heck of a meeting between OG Superman and GaM Superman. Even more one heck of a meeting between Bruce Wayne and Kirk langstrom XD
We need more Gods and Monsters and mexican Superman, instead of Injustice and crazy Superman. This universe has such huge potential for creative alternate versions. The metal men went from friendly kind robots to full nightmare fuel, Harley went from the right hand of the joker to a complete psycho. What if the Flash is just a genius guy wearing special gear that gives him connection to the speedforce?
@@zalabit927 Im actually sick of Crazy 'Evil Stevel' Superman we've been getting lately because DC is so Desperate to copy Watchmen. Not to mention the Batgod Cult they have worshiping batman as 'The greatest superhero EVARZ"
I like to think this “ darker” Superman saw the worst of humanity and decided that people needed something to aspire to and took it upon himself to give us that. He’s not perfect but who is
I actually never cared for typical Superman. This version is hands down my favorite. He's moody, cynical, but also still somewhat optimistic about what he could do with his heritage and powers beyond simply just saving the day. There's just too much to cover about what I love about this version of Supes.
I love this version of Superman because I've always liked the idea of Superman becoming a hero in the end despite everything that might have happened to him in his life. Superman to me has always represented the ideal for justice and peace because even with his godlike power, he doesn't let it get to his head. Now there are arguments you could make for a nature vs. nurture thing with Superman, but at his core I think Superman should always be a man jsut trying to do some good in the world. And what makes this Superman so great is that we see him do that without letting himself become overly angsty over the horrific things he has seen and done in this universe. He just recognizes that sometimes you can't solve everything with an optimistic speech and a smile. Regular Superman maybe, but not this one. I love this version of Superman :)
I actually really love this version of Superman because he’s actually experience the darker side of humanity unlike the original he knows what it’s like to be looked down on or used his life wasn’t perfect and that’s what’s great and amazing he saw all the evil the corruption and how his true father was but in the end he chose to be better than that and that’s what I love about a lot of hero stories to choice to be better and this version of superman does it amazingly
I did like the the version of this superman growing up by Mexican immigrants. The few parts he actually spoke Spanish was great but wish they showed more of his Mexican up bringing.
i mean, he was raised in the us. a lotta the people i know even starting from the 2nd gen immigrant families start to lose touch with their culture. would def like to see this supes childhood though.
The double entendre with Hernan Guerra's up bringing is brilliant. He is an illegal alien in both definitions. As an extra-terrestrial not from this world. And as a Mexican not from the U.S.A. This superman has to deal with both versions of being an outcast. Brilliant!
Hernan Guerra: best Superman ever, because he is not so good and acts with brutality when it's needed...btw: Guerra means War in Spanish such a badass last name!
On thing I like about this Superman is that he doesn't wear a cape, but rather a trench coat. Though I could do without the goatee. I feel like that was an unnecessary addition to his appearance.
What’s that, an alt Superman that actually is better from a different country Now before any one rants about how this one isn’t as just or morally sane as Clark hear me out He was raised with a view of what people can be at their lowest,he abondens his powers for the protection of others, relies on being a man for most his life,is able to realize that his powers do more to protect with potential incident than doing nothing so there is no incident, doesn’t lash out or rebel when he realizes he has been betrayed by the government because he sees that they did it for a reason that was heavily grounded and possible, and changes himself because of the government’s reason, and understands what people can be at their highest and lowest as he takes in this worlds Batman, because he saw just how low he had gone and saw what he could be Now is this one going to make the silver beacon of choices,no,is he better at being a god of morals,no,but is he better at being a man,he knows a man at his weakest and knows a man at his highest,as he is one of those men,and being man is what this one is,he kills and is violent with his powers, but changes that when he sees what a path like that can be,he changes this worlds Batman because he sees his path and what it makes him so he changes this Batman from a hobo who very well could’ve been a mad man to what would actually be one of the strongest people on the planet, being man is about changing and changing what’s around you,and that is what this Superman does, for worse or best
The injustice superman makes zero sense, this one does. And it shows perfectly that a hard life can make you a better person as long as you're surrounded by people who care. For me this is the most human superman incarnation so far
Let's say that this Superman (Hernan Guerra) is one that knows how he is, he knows that he isn't human and could get a life much better and give them to his family. On the other hand the Injustice Kal-El is much like forced by the plot of the story, something like he's having a tantrum. Then... The whole Injustice is extremely exagerated. A story made with so many CIS (Character Induced Stupidity)
I think this character should be in the main universe, along side with the classic Superman. The same goes for the other Batman and other Wonderwoman, because that would just be a very interesting story, thumbs up if anyone agrees with me.
I recently found this movie on RU-vid and I loved it, hope we get more from this univers overtime, like orm as aquaman and arther as ocean master, the flash having time manipulation powers, and marten manhunt not having the fire weakness so he is unstoppable
This version of Superman is the best version to ever exist of the man of steel i just love Hernan Guerra he’s so cool I love how he’s the son of General Zod
He would basically be like Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z. The only other Kryptonian that could stand up to such a servant of Darkseid would be his cousin Kara in that story.
I really liked this movie. It did a dark alternate Justice League well, without coming across as too cynical. It's a universe that has "gone wrong", but unlike Flashpoint it isn't doomed to be terrible and die. And despite the League initially being much darker, they're still people, not cartoonish ripoffs of The Watchmen. It's a shame the sequel got canned
I really really want a sequel or live action adaptation of Justice League Gods and Monsters this movie is ridiculously underrated I love the universe DC built its genius
He's a cross between moral Superman and Injustice Superman, but he is his own unique self. Out of the many versions of Superman, he is my favorite. As far as this movie goes, Bekka is my top favorite. Back to Superman, he's actually more human than boy scout Superman or evil Superman. Best of all, he's not edgy at all. I still like normal Superman, but I like this one as well.
You've been like my favourite youtuber for so long and i'd just like to say you should upload more if your comfortable because your content and voice is the best!
My opinion is Lex was right to keep Zod a secret to this superman after he matured. He realized with all the killing he has done, he becoming Zod, thus he stops killing. If he learns about Zod before he kills/becomes a hero, he would have taken Zod as someone to loon up to
There's also the possibility that this Superman is slightly more emotional and religious due to him seeing the charred remains of the Stones and he bows down before them with his eyes closed as though in prayer for them, or when he stumbles across the Kid Brainiac who is unable to control his powers and Superman is in tears realizing that he has no other choice but to perform a mercy kill him to save the city when Brainiac asks for it.
I'd say he is definitely more religious than the original Superman. And they're both emotional, but he generally hides his emotions behind a stoic and stern exterior. If they met each other, I think he and Clarke would have some interesting debates and ultimately respect each other.
homelander is an insane asshole, this superman is a bit rough around the edges but he's fair and honest and stands up for the people even though he brutally murders the criminal element whereas homelander doesn't give a shit about anyone other than himself
I love your understanding of these comic characters. What you said about superman towards the end and the differences was just spot on man. So many people, Including several mcu characters really, really see the characters as not much more than a power set and don't understand the dynamic. Like taking away all of peter parker's relatability in the mcu films. 2 million dollar ny apartment, billionare that hands him everything, making billion dollar inventions in his bedroom, girl he likes immediately adores him, and wants to be spiderman because he's an iron man and avengers fan boy. Never even mentions it being a responsibility at all nor does he act like it. Also has no independence what so ever which was a huge part of peters character and why he's not a full member of the avangers. Doesn't agree with them half the time. Thinks they cross the line and often become too controlling and self-righteousness and lose touch with the everyman. So yeah, really like your description of what superman's about and how this version changes things. A god among men trying to find his place and what his responsibilites should be. I actually thought man of steel and batman v superman did a good job exploring that part. Not knowing how much he should interfere, how and if he should be held accountable by the people of earth, coming to grips with the fear many of them have of his power, and how far he should go to stop bad things from happening. Should he interfere in poltical matters for example or abroad.
fucking loved this superman, probably my favorite version, I wish this universe would get a comic or a TV series. I hope he at least shows up in a movie as an Easter egg now that they are doing multiverse stuff on the movies.
Clark is Clark no matter what universe he's in, unless they're specifically making him evil. The fact that the vast majority of his alternate versions are heroic, planet saving guys only cements it.
Also the fact that this super man isnt evil is ironic. If you know story tropes, you but with a goate is usually an evil version of you from another timeline or universe
Honestly, the 3 alt versions of Batman Superman and Wonder Woman are so much more human their counterparts. They remind me more of most marvel heroes in that regard, rather than the idealistic icons of their actual dc universe.
so this Clark is physically stronger than the normal 1 since both of are Superman's parents were not so strong on Krypton yet Zod was a war lord so if he's this superman's father, he'd be stronger
Still wish we got a Hernan Guerra skin for the Injustice series. Even though he's definitely a better man than Injusticeverse Superman, the Kryptonite handcuffs on him would still be in-character for him
That would be a cool interaction between injustice Superman and g.a.m superman. I.j sups: who are you? G.a.m: im you, well not 100% anyways. My we have the same mother, but my father is... General zodd. I.j sups: WHAT?!?
Hey, there are some people who dont want to (or cant) do it the old fashioned way. Like a man whos paralyzed from the waist down who cant get hard for examle. Im sure him and his wife would want kids. Hell maybe a man or woman who have some reproductive issues where theyre baby making equipment dont work, just give the birth machine some of your blood and *BING BANG BOOM* YOU HAVE YOUR CHILD!
This Superman would have killed the Joker and stopped there instead of enslaving the entire world. The people who are the most broken are the most grounded and practiced in self restraint.
