Man both of you guys are easily some of my favorite youtubers! You both have great stuff I spent all night watching both your vids so it is really badass to see you guys commenting eachother aha
I fucking love strongman exercises. Im just a beginner (75 lb. sandbag carries, 60 lb farmers, 125 lb sleds, etc) but it is SO MUCH MORE EXCITING than machines. Thank you for all your strongman shit over the years, Brian. There is sooo much content to go through and I cant wait to become stronger.
Visit your local microbrewery for kegs. They own the ones that the restaurants use. The one I worked at had a ton of worn out kegs. I would imagine most microbreweries are the same. The ones you get from them will most likely be clean.
How did I not find this channel before today? I literally sit in front of computer at work, looking for stuff like this all day 'cause I'm bored. You have a lot of good tips, dude. Thank you!
All excellent suggestions ... Here's a caveat, rock training; pick up, carry, throw, press ... simple, awkward, off axis, definately cheap and effective.
hey Brian, thanks for the awesome videos. going along with what you said about the tires, you can use a small tire to mimic a Hussafel stone carry. just load up plates into the tire, grab, lift, and carry
Coming from Alan's channel, Had been looking for a way to implement strongman stuff into my routine, had been hesitant since i didn't know where to start. Thanks tons for the video! Subbed! :)
+Brian Alsruhe it's well warranted. I'm that guy who reliably watches ads and clicks ads to help support the monetization of quality content, which you sir, have got. So again, many thanks goes out to you.
+Brian Alsruhe I had a, "WHAT," moment in the gym last week and certainly drew some odd looks. Maybe if you gain some more notoriety it will become acceptable gym etiquette hahaha
Coming from Alan's channel. Fantastic stuff. Going to combine your info here and your alternating of light, med, and heavy into my training. Really love all the content. Happily subbed. Going big on deadlift day today :D
Congrats on the collab video and getting recognition. I've kept up with all your alpha logs on tnation and you deserve it brother. Keep up the great work!
As far as kegs go, if you have a local brewery you can sometimes get/buy for cheap decommissioned kegs, or kegs that are, for whatever reason, no longer foodsafe.
This is a fantastic channel. The educational resource is solid and it's given in an entertaining way, keep making good videos Brian your conditioning videos have been a great tool for my training for my Strongman and powerlifting, increasing both my work capacity and strength in addition to helping with my MMA and Ranger School endeavors as well. Thanks for putting in the effort to make content.
I just came over from Alans channel and i'm glad I did, you're heaps informative and funny and you're a person that needs more exposure! Great video dude i'll be definitely be watching your other videos!
I found out that 1-1/2" steel pipe is what you need. It is just under 2" on the outer diameter, which makes for a pretty close fit for Olympic weights. You'll also need good collars, since it's just barely undersized for spring clamps.
Thanks for putting this and the free routine up. I already did trap bar farmers walks but had no clue how to try and get some other strongman-esk lifts into my workout at a chain gym. I will try and implement some in my workout.
Hi, I've come from Alan's channel; both the training video and this one were really helpful, and I'm digging your presentation style man - you've got a new subscriber!
All these people found you through Alan Thrall. Like them, I am guilty of this, but your videos are awesome. I've seen most of them now and appreciate your time for making these videos. Also, your gym is awesome. Is this ran out of your home?
great video! like the humour; that might set your channel apart. Very informative too; I need to get some 2" pipe, tyres and a sandbag. I also liked the liked video from Alan's channel; really solid programme advice!
came over from Alan's channel, awesome content. exactly what I was looking for on this topic. plan on binge watching all your videos over the next few days! sub'd
I need to work on the grip strength in my left hand, I can safely do a farmer's walk, with a hex bar holding 230 lbs and no back or knee braces, but after 1 minute of solid carrying my left hand wants to let go before my right.
Provides helpful and informative content? Check Stays on topic and presents himself well? Check Doesn't take himself too seriously? Check Ok fine, a friend of Alan is a friend of mine. You got a new subscriber. 😉
Just a heads up so anybody doesn’t do the same dumb mistake I did. I picked up 10 feet of 2 inches electrical conduit, cut to length for dumbbells and an axle, had the end welded, got them from the welder and... they’re slightly more than 2 inches in diameter... bring a small plate to the hardware store before buying lol.
i come's from alan's channel ! you have a great content. i picture that you'll grow very fast, and it's totally diserved. by the way, sorry if there are some mistakes, i'm french ^^
Brian Alsruhe No, thank YOU! for the content and getting to where you are now, must have been one HELL of a journey. Congrats, brother and keep it up! you're a motivation for us all!
Just found you on the tube and subbed. Very helpful content. For the "Incorporating Strongman" video that is on Thrall's channel, where would you add cleans? Also, in the same video, you pair the strongman movements of dead lift and press with the strength workouts for dead lift and press. Would that be just more dead lifting and pressing for the strongman portion? Thanks for your time and effort.
Very awesome and useful video dude. Could you recommend me some books or other sources that you found helpful about lifting? or even make a video about it so more people reach this information. My most useful so far is ProgrammingToWin.
I will definitely make a video about this man, that is a great topic! i have far to many resources to list out here, but I cover it in a separate video all to itself. Thanks for asking!
Dude, I don't comment much but I feel compelled to say this...YOU'RE TRAPS ARE SICK! I've been using dumbbells try and mimic farmer's carry but it's just not the same: I feel like i have to get too low to pick them up and my back rounds, and like what you said, they also roll out. Been thinking about getting the Spud traveler's farmers carry straps. I know they're not as good as the actual bars, but it's all I can manage; I go to a commercial gym but it has no trap bar (not a very good gym). What are your opinions on the straps?
Thanks boss! I think the straps are a really good option if you can't get your hands on traditional handles. If you stick with Dumbbells, try picking them up off of a bench or blocks so the deadlift isn't as compromised, but if you are looking to do more weight, those straps may be a good solve for now. You can also just make some of your own for much cheaper with basic stuff you can buy at any hardware store. But if you are going to pay for the straps, you may just want to buy some real handles and see if you can leave them at your gym. Most places will let you do things like that. I hope that helps man!
Yeah that's why I was a little hesitant on buying them. They're almost as much as the regular bars! lol. I did look into making my own straps if anything; will continue looking. Thanks for your input!
Sure thing man, but definitely as your gym if you can store them there. Or, if you have plates at your house, just program your farmer's on days when you will be out of the gym but you can still carry them in your yard or through your neighborhood
Wassup man? I can't take the bars to the gym BUT I made my own straps except I used chain, pipe for the handle, and a heavy duty quick link. Can't wait to try these! max weight the quick link holds is 600lbs lol. I figured that should give me enough time to buy some handles lol. Thanks for your advice and tips!
Came from Al's channel and was wondering what strongman lift do you consider best bang for buck in terms of overall body strength? I work out in my garage and out side with dumbells, barbell, bands and pullup bar. I also have a keg and 2'' barbell.
Honestly man, the weighted carries and loading movements. I'd get a sandbag and load it heavy then work carries and loads to a platform or over a bar. Once that gets easy, try to get your hands on some atlas stone molds and start using them. i think hands down, Atlas stone loads/shouldering/carries will do more to build up your functional strength more than anything else
