I installed a yarna a couple of months ago, i cleaned the shower heads with vinegar until shiny again. It took a month or so to get working, but haven’t had to clean scale off for over a month. I usually have to clean every couple of weeks.

Almost twenty years ago we moved from a lake water area to a town that uses town wheal water that has hard water. Unaware of its effect and the need of water softener in the area after first year our dishwasher completely clogged up and broken down while the pipes began to clog up with scale build up all over the kitchen, washrooms toilets and faucets. I did some research regarding water softener and ended up using a electronic water descaler. The heavy scales in the washroom, faucets, inside the toilet tank and the buildup in the toilet bowls dramatically decreased after the initial clean up right after the installation after six months; however, I was still wondering how well it really worked throughout the entire house since we no longer have a dishwasher to show the difference. An year after the installation, our rental hot water heater tank broke down and I was wondering if it was caused by the hard water buildup and the electronic water descaler may not be enough to do the job; however, when the maintance person showed up and pull out the heating rod and it was perfectly clean without any trace of scale and the hot water tank was simply just broken down. The maintenance person was baffled since we did not have a water softener installed and had never heard of a electronic water descaler in his 30 years in the hot water tank business in our area. Least to say beside the minor wipe down and light regular scrub we no longer have any major hard water scale build up issue throughout the house since we installed the first unit and it actually slowly descaled all the scales in the water pipe throughout the entire house with an yearly electricity cost of about $7.00 drawing 5W/h only to operate it. five years later, I added a second unit onto the out going hot water pipe leaving from the hot water tank to add additional descale performance and have both units plugged into a backup battery unit as a safety measure and both are still running well to this day.

Excellent Presentation- got a Yarna 5 months ago. It took 2 months to see the difference. The minerals do not disappear but they are neutralized so they don't stick to anything anymore. That explains the fine powder residue. I am still considering getting a descale filter to completely remove the minerals in addition to the Yarna. The dissolved minerals in northern California water is over 500ppm !

Would have loved to see a comparison added with a traditional water softener as well. I'm conflicted on this thing but not crazy about adding salt to the water. Building a new house in an area with pretty bad (hard) water.

Absolutely hands down, one of the best youtube vids I have seen! 1st world problem here, however... my outdoor sprinkler deposits scads of deposits on my aluminum fence. We tried everything to remove it...vinegar (started eco friendly) then clr, then spray nine, aerospace 360... and it was a ton of work on a 180'fence. My question is since it is easier to wipe, would a rainstorm rinse this away?

Love the video! Very well made. Yours was the biggest influence in my decision to finally purchase a Yarna and I will be installing it in the near future. I'm guessing you are still waiting on quantitative data from Yarna about the removal of existing deposits from pipes by means water flow. Here's my idea. You're a scientific guy, so why don't you and Pop Pop do a test yourselves using a horizontal transparent pipe made of glass, acrylic, etc.? You could run your local water through it for a few months, then flush it with Pop Pop's treated water and visually inspect it to see if there was any decrease in visible deposits. Just a thought. I see the scale is easier to wipe off in the video, but I wonder if that means you do not have the same build-up on, for example, clogging shower heads and ruining appliances. I understand the minerals are still present in the water, but do they do the same damage to boilers, and other appliances (which is my real concern when it comes to hard water). Thanks

I made a hydro pneumatic oscillation vector, it completely eliminated all of my hard water within a week.

I have had a scaleblaster device on my house for about 4 years or so, which if I understand, works on the same principle as the Yarna one. So hopefully I'm getting similar benefits. But it is true, without doing well-controlled experiments, it can be hard to tell by just looking--it can be very subjective. Thank you for this. Would love to see you do this on the Scaleblaster, which is a very common brand.

7:55 A magnets effect is though the magnetic field so why would it need to be in contact with the water or "Metal pipe". A coper pipe is diamagnetic, so why cant you use PVC or plastic pipes?

Why does jet-dry dish washer additive work so well? And the same stuff in the Cascade version. Glassware silverware look great with it, spotty and residue horrible without it.

Just put a teaspoon full of citric acid along with the soap into the soap chamber in your dishwasher. And your wife will be forever thankful for the ultra clean glasses!;-)

Two large south pole magnets facing each other on the pipe will do the same thing and cause the deposits not to stick. kj magnetics has an article with scientific references on this. Water treated this way also effects cement and how it sets.

Question : Since the treated water is easier to remove, does that mean it's probably not sticking to my pipes and coming out the spicket? If it makes cleanup easier and keeps my pipes from clogging up I'd say this is a win for the product.

What was the buildup like on the water inlets for the washing machine or dishwasher and your tap aeration filter? there was another video with 250 ppm water and there were these little rocks that collected in there. He did not try the wipe test as you did and sent the product back.

So does the minerals stick together all the way our of the houses plumbing or does the charge dissiminate after 30-50 feet away from the location of the Yarnas location and does it descale the minerals already in the pipes that have collected.

Would a pressure reducing valve in the middle of both wraps be ok, or do the two wraps HAVE to occur on the same flat pipe ?

Will this break up old calcium and lime crystals that have formed inside the pipes that are situated farther away from the unit?

Would using this device reverse existing mineral buildup in your water heater?

So is this type of product worth it or should buying the regular water softener better?

So for benefits of a water softener this will or won’t get those benefits ( softer hair skin laundry etc) or just buff yourself off after a shower? Trying to avoid a softener system and look for alternatives that could give same results but I’m failing to win this battle lol

Since apparently you're somewhat of a genius and understand these things way better than I, I was hoping for some input. I have a backflushing iron filter (not water softener) and was going to add one of these units to my system. Would you put it up upstream or downstream of the iron filter? My thought was to put it upstream so as to to hopefully utilize it to keep as much hard water from forming on valves, gauges and my pressure tank and sediment filter which are located upstream from the iron filter, but I have no idea whether the descaling process would effect how the iron filter works. Any thoughts?

I have PEX pipe. I dont think scale would build up in it like copper or steel. I bought and installed a scalesweeper yesterday. I moved from an area with very soft water that is supplied by snowpack and rainwater to an area with hard water. It's hard getting used to. First thing I did was install an RO system just for drinking water under the sink, along with a whole house Carbon block for chlorine. I dont want the hassle of a huge water softener unit either. We'll see how the scale sweeper works. It cost me 50$ at a local restore.

So, the point of the video is that your hard harder is easier to clean after using this product? That's it? My point is that this product has been proven not to work. Having the same hardness after you install it than before you installed it, just proves that point as well. If you want the hardness (calcium and magnesium) removed from your water, the only thing that does that is a salt based water softener. Your explaination of the differences between the systems was excellent though. I just can't understand why anyone would want this product in their own home knowing that it isn't doing anything.

There is the most important evaluation missing. What softening effect is noticed for bathing, soap lather, etc. This is what you install these to deal with.

The "wipe test" may show perhaps some "calcite conversion" occured but.. the effect on a heating appliance would be more practical.. btw,, fyi,, the "clumping effect" only lasts a short time (or distance in the pipe).. we have a $7K restaurant steamer that gets caked inside.. EcoLab's 5 stage filter doesn't work at all & RO is still an expensive option.. Love ya cuz this gizzmo seems kinda useless for my needs...

I don't suppose you've done a similar test using a Flow Tech device? Apparently it emits a pulse through the water column throughout your entire plumbing system (lower voltage the further you get away from the source).

How much voltage differential have?Also did you run the out put on an oscilloscope to really check the wave form?

Good video. One dumb question. Since I can't wipe out the inside of my pipes like you wiped pop-pop's Yarna treated dish, does the water passing through the pipes remove the residue? Or does the pipe residue build up just like from unsoftened water? So, the cleaning-up part is attractive, but does it really save my pipes from coating build-up?

So none of the electrical and/or magnets systems which propose that will "clean" your water actually cleans your water. What they do is crystalize the minerals, so they are easier to clean. To remove particles from your water you either need a Water Softener or you need a Filtration system. If you have terrible water like these people, then this system will simply make it easier to clean but won't stop any of the spots or ring around the toilet. If you have a decent City Water you might see better results, but honestly it won't do anything for any of the chemicals in your water either (fluoride or chlorine) or any pathogens in the water. Great video though.

What procedure was used to test the water hardness? Did you use a TDS meter or something else.

Too bad the installation was not very well done, otherwise an extremely well done review of the methods science and performance. I am sure that the effectiveness of the treatment was reduced due to wrapping over the angle fittings, as well as the increased pipe thickness at the fitting connectors. Of course it would have been a bigger job to plumb properly but I suspect worth the effort.

I tried 2 electronic and 1 magnetic water softener. They did nothing at all.

someone LIED their ass off to you about hard water. 180ppm is 10.5 grains of hardness- that is F'n SLUDGE! 3 grains would actually be considered pretty bad. 1 grain will make shower doors look like frosted glass- HORRIBLE.
