Have about 20 miles in the wild. Really a great trail shoe. I enjoy zero drop but rotate up to 5mm drop. I like the option and think Altra will do well with it.

I have the Flow and they are really comfortable. I’d like to get the Wild in a 13 but concerned they may be too small.

The FWD Experience and Experience Flow are basically the same shoe, with the Wild having a familiarity to the FWD/Flow but for the trails. I found the Wild to be a good shoe but not very memorable or inspiring. Anyways, thanks for checking out the video!

Hi Chad, just discovered your channel due to the new Altras coming out. I use these myself, and I think you’re spot on with the heel movement. Not sure if there’s a way to fix that as I lean more to my right, but thanks for the review!

Great review, thank you. Do you feel this shoe would be adequate to marathon+ distances? I do like the Olympus and Timp (1.5) but I'm skeptical this won't have the "softness" of what I'm used to.

I am considering to use this shoe for a 40 mile self-supported road run but that would be at a very casual pace. For Marathon racing, I personally would want a shoe with a little more soft bouncy feeling underfoot, perhaps like the New Balance Rebel.

Looking forward to your comparison of FWD and flow!

I'll definitely talk more about it in my Flow review video, but having now ran in the Flow, I can't tell a single difference underfoot.

So, im struggling to understand what these do for your foot position. Do they make you feel a little toe forwards in your stride? I just got back into running back in November in the UK after about a 25 year hiatus (previous to which i was a high jumper with a bit of short to middle distance track running when filling the time before/after jumping). I never really did long distance easier paced road and footpath running as a result, and, consequently, it feels unnatural as a result. As i have a 50% off deal via a health scheme im signed up with at work though, i thiugh, why not! In the shop, for me, it was a toss up between Hoka and Brookes. The Hoka won out as it was the only one with a trail focus they had in the shop at the time out of the two brands which felt ok, and, i live in an area with plenty of country walking available. Problem is, its been raining all winter and continues to do so. As such, I've basically been confined to footpath (sidewalk to you guys) running. The pair i chose turned out to be the pair which Hardest Geezer Russ Cook wore during his south to north circumnavigation of Africa...the speed-goats or something like that i think. That said, they do feel a little toe happy, and, they dont feel all too springy in the mid section of my foot either. I also appear to be wearing out the 'studs' through constantly having to run on the path too. I think I've always prefered running heel-toe, but, pushing off through my toe a little more (a la sprinting technique...only, when sprinting we were all toe! 😅) For that style of running though, the Briokes seemed to be perfect as they felt like tgey sank into the heel a little more. Only 'problem' was that they didnt do one in trail specific at the shop i went to. My question would have to be though, is the style of running i mentioned above an 'unusual' technique, or, is it in any way unpreferable to how the Hoka seem to want me to run? I mean, if i allow my body to go with it, sometimes , later into my run, my head seems to work it out and it starts feeling quite natural. Its just getting to that point that's the problem though.

Everybody runs a little different... I was a sprinter in high school (20 years ago) and even now I will run more on my toes when I pick up the pace. I've seen others that run more on their toes, even just for a normal jog, which isn't as common but that's okay. I myself am more of a midfoot striker (meaning that I land more flat on my foot). Shoes have a rocker which helps push you forward into your toes, some shoes will have more of a rocker shape than others. These shoes (FWD Experience) have a medium rocker, while other shoes typically aimed at going a little faster will have a more extreme rocker. I personally like a shoe with a fair amount of rocker because I like the feeling of immediately transitioning into my toes on each stride. Anyways, hope that helps and if not feel free to be more specific with your question 🙂 Thanks for checking out the video!

@@SeeChadRun it certainly does, thanks! Don't get me wrong, the shoes I have are the most comfortable I've ever worn, especially when you compare it to a backdrop of having had nothing like this level of cushioning in a shoe before. I'm just trying to figure out what I might want to look for in the next pair that I may need to go for soon. Colorado looks pretty to run around in...I bet the winters are a little more harsh than we get here though right? ☺️

I just preordered the Flow. I hope they’re as good.

I've heard that the midsole is just a little bit softer in the Flow, but otherwise it's the same shoe. Comparing them in hand, I can't tell the difference between the two minus a few cosmetic differences on the upper. I'm thinking I might have to do a run with the Flow on one foot and the FWD Experience on the other.

Thanks Chad, always great to see what you are up to. I was looking for reviews on these shoes so I was happy to see you had a review on them. How would you compare them to the New Balance Rebel? I've ran in NB Rebels for a few years, not my everyday shoe. Some days I love the bounce but I don't always love the bounce and will go for a shoe that feels more natural to me (Saucony Kinvara or NB Tempo). I'm not a huge fan of Saucony Ride, I do like Saucony Kinvara, I'm not a fan of Hoka Clifton, but I love Hoka Speedgoats and Torrins for trails. For me the Ride and Clifton feel flat.

Hey Mark! Seems like it's been a while. The New bounce Rebel (v2 and v3 which I've ran in and I assume similarly with v4) do have a very soft but bouncy midsole. I really enjoyed the Rebel v3 but it does feel quite different compared to the FWD Experience. The forward experience doesn't have so much of a bouncy ride, making it ideal for those simple miles. I hope that helps but if not, let me know, and I'll see if I can add some clarity.

@@SeeChadRun Thanks for the comparison. I did order a pair of Altra FWD, looking forward to giving them a try. Good to see you doing so much with your channel. We should get together for a trail run next time you are in Utah.
