Question says it’s got so much cushioning and it’s flat. You know like some shoes will have a curve in the front kind of a thing. How does it feel? Is it cause I’m sure it’s probably not flexible but I’m used to a zero drop shoot is really flexible I’m sure it’s not flexible and so do you still get ground field on that thing or not I was also thinking about the same thing about topo pursuit that I wondered how much how it runs as it runs smooth still and it’s your ground fill is it flexible at all but you know the mountain racer also has a high stack height like that but it’s not a zero drop shoot, so I was just kind of curious
@SeeChadRun
@SeeChadRun День назад
The Topo Pursuit 2 is ever so slightly more flexible than the Altra Timp 5. Both have a rocker shape, but the Pursuit 2 has a more pronounced rocker shape, which in my experience offers a slightly smoother transition through toe off. From what I recall (It's been a minute since I ran in the Timp 5) both have similar ground feel and protection. I never felt that ground feel was lacking but I also still felt protected underfoot in both shoes. All that said if I had to choose one zero drop trail shoe, be the Topo Pursuit 2 as I found it to be more comfortable in the upper for my foot. Hope that helps!

I like the standard fit the best. I tried lone peaks on today and they fit little too wide. But have a 100 in December, starting in Luna then I’ll switch to either Salomon or I’ll get these lp7.

Great run Chad, I'm going to borrow the parts of that I haven't ran yet. Love watching and recognizing the trail, something I could never have done 18 months ago. Did you plan to run 33.5 miles so that you could break up the 100 miler into 3 parts in your mind? This was a really enjoyable video. Thanks.
@SeeChadRun
@SeeChadRun 5 дней назад
I ran the 33 miles simply because that was what the route ended up being based on what I wanted to run (what trails I wanted to explore) and because I wanted something longer than 20 miles, so why not a 50k+. Conveniently, as you mentioned it does break up the 100 miles into 3 parts, and this run simulated the middle part in my mind because I was already running on tired legs. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!

That was a beautiful run! While I’m a fan of the reviews, these runventures are easily my favourite. The Wadi shirt looks really good. I have a Patagonia Sun shirt that’s been seeing a lot of time on me lately. Great accessory! Question: with the BR pack seeing more time, any longer term thoughts on how it rates vs the Salomon?
@SeeChadRun
@SeeChadRun 5 дней назад
I appreciate you and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Overall, I like the Salomon ADV Skin packs more but find myself opting for the Black Diamond pack because I knew it would do well with the extra water in the back, it has the trekking pole sleeves which is simply convenient, and I can carry quite a bit more stuff when needed (which also makes it a great day pack).
@chad.haggerty
@chad.haggerty 5 дней назад
@@SeeChadRun that makes perfect sense. My wife drinks a lot more than I do so I stitched an attachment point into the AdvSkin for a 1.5L bladder. There is actually a through point on the top of the shoulder (with only a tiny hole needing to be cut). As always, thanks for the inspiration, Chad!

Prices probably pretty fair figuring I usually spend about $120 just for a pair of sandals to run in. I wish the stack was lower sometimes on trails of if I don’t feel the ground I’m going down or I roll an ankle or something so I think 28 and 33 is pretty high but that’s for me most people probably like even higher, good video.
@SeeChadRun
@SeeChadRun 6 дней назад
Thank you! The stack doesn't feel as high as advertised. You can still feel the ground underfoot and receive good feedback too. Some have complained that it doesn't have enough protection, but I think it's a perfect balance between cushioning that I can run a long time in and underfoot feeling.

is clifton 9 good for gravel roads?
@SeeChadRun
@SeeChadRun 4 дня назад
It would do fine, and perhaps better than other road shoes with a much smoother outsole. I've seen a couple gravel specific shoe releases including the Craft Xplor (review on my channel) and the Salomon DRX DEFY GRVL (I'm trying to get a pair for review). Hope that helps!
@nicennice
@nicennice 7 дней назад
Thanks for the review. Just thought I'd share my experience. Coming from Olympus 4s this shoe is much tighter in the toe box because of the shallower profile so if you have wide feet go up a half size. This is exacerbated by the thick and long tongue reducing the volume in the shoe and making it even hotter to run in the summer heat. Also I do not feel the cushioning to be as good as in my Speedgoat 4s. BUT the vibram outsole is a winner and even with the cons listed previously this is still a pretty good shoe for comfort, performance and protection. Not sure it's a Speedgoat killer as others have said though. Just my thoughts and not so different from yours I think. Mine were 80 UK pounds in a sale and for that good value.

@toddboucher3302

Do you know how they measure the stack height? Is that from the bottom of the lugs all the way to the Inso or is that just a cushioning I’m trying to see because sometimes they say one thing and I get it and it’s too high and I don’t feel right in itother times it’s include everything so just curious if you happen to know I guess that’s some 28 mm so that includes everything that’s not bad with a 6 mm low then that brings it down to 22 for ground field would be decent. just curious if you know.
@SeeChadRun
@SeeChadRun 7 дней назад
I don't know for certain, but I would assume based on how it feels that the stack height does not include the outsole lugs in this case.

I'm not a runner, I basically do lots of day hiking in Pennsylvania where it's pretty rocky. I've had a pair of Olympus 4s for quite a while now and they have been fantastic. I wanted that high stack for the rough terrain and the pointy rocks in the ground. However, I'm considering the Topo MTN Racer 3 instead to go away from zero drop and because they're a bit less expensive. I'm hoping I like the Topo shoes!
@SeeChadRun
@SeeChadRun 8 дней назад
I love the Topo MTN Racer 3! It's a great trail runner and hiking shoe but know that it doesn't have a rock plate nor quite as much stack as the Olympus, so you'll likely feel the ground and rocks underfoot a little more. It's a more agile and lightweight shoe which I really appreciate as well!

@@SeeChadRun Is another shoe by Topo a better analog to the Olympus? Terraventure maybe?
@SeeChadRun

@charliejg the Topo Ultraventure 3 might be a good option to consider and although I haven't personally ran in that shoe yet, I've heard great things from others about it. It also has a 5 mm drop but increased stack height 35 mm in the heel and 30 mm in the forefoot.

I ran a 5 mile easy trail run and a hard 13.5 mile training run for The Rut race in Big Sky, MT. I had to return them. The medial post (ankle) dug in just under my ankle bones causing major chafing and bleeding. I also got a substantial blister in my pinky toe. I chalk the blister up to the shoes being “new” but the ankle rubbing ruined my world during the hard 13.5 mile run. Also, foam soles took a major beating during the aforementioned training run. The grip was phenomenal, as advertised, however if the foam doesn’t hold up for a decent amount of time, it’s all pointless. I wanted to love these shoes and hope my experiences aren’t common.

Question if you get this, I need the new Tims just look at them at REI and they look nice. Does it have ground still high? That’s a lot higher than I usually have ever went and the rubber is usually when I get into a higher stack but I with a hard rubber, I lose all sense of the ground bad things happen
@SeeChadRun
@SeeChadRun 15 дней назад
In my experience with this shoe, it still provides decent ground feel. Despite a slightly higher stack. I wouldn't consider it high stack by today's standards, but it is enough to provide good cushioning and protection without leaving you numb to the underfoot feeling of the trail.
