If/once you've committed to foot-shaped shoes, it's really awesome when you find new options to try. There are so many shoes I would love to test on the trails, but I know my toes really couldn't handle it anymore.

So glad to hear that the MBs are working out for you!!! I ran my second pair up over 625 miles today, and they're still going strong, despite feeling like the 6-18 inches of icy snow I was plowing through would tear the old upper to shreds.

Thank! It is just one more fairly decent option on the market if the price isn't too much worse than alternatives you're considering.

If you're liking the Torins, the LP7s are probably a pretty good trail-ready companion. No standout features, but they meet expectations as a daily trainer in all ways except what you get for the price.

My foot shape is biased toward Altras, but I try to still keep it real. Thanks for watching!

Glad you found the review helpful even from here on the other side of the world. The LP7 is definitely a way different shoe than the King MT, but it's probably Altra's most similar offering at this point (most aggressive lug pattern for example). Superiors would give you similar ground feel to the MT, but nothing close to sufficient traction.

mt is a premium offer. lps are normie lineup. price is price i feel like there's enough obfuscation on the "footshape" as it is. u should get the mids tho if u like mids.

Joshua - That's a great idea for anyone who already has a pair of LP7s at home! I just couldn't justify spending $150 on a pair of shoes and then needing to supplement their performance almost right out of the box. Thanks for adding your thoughts and alternative shoe suggestions here.

You're so right, TD! That's a big part of why I was excited to hear that Altra wasn't making a new version of the Mont Blancs this year. It keeps me from having to worry about the price going up.

@@KentMearig I could be wrong, but I did think they increased the price of the MB BOA when they released a new colourway. I gotta double check.

Instant update, here in Europe the new colourway is 10€ more expensive than the original

@@TDMiller Wow, that's wild! I'm not seeing the price difference here in the states. I'm just bummed that the white/blue/purple colorway is only available direct from Altra and not though the bigger shoe distributors. I'm not really a fan of the "dusty olive".

@@KentMearig not any altra shoe is so good to be worth twice purchase lol. practically some people don't care, but i'm not just some people or some other people. (msrp hasn't changed for decades tbo inflation is inflation)

Glad to hear that you got something out of the review. Can't help you with the Apple Watch question though. The watch I'm actually wearing is a Garmin Venu SQ. It's by no means a perfect watch, either for exercise tracking or daily smartwatch features, but it get's the job done at a pretty reasonable price.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with all those different shoes. I've had some contrasting experiences with some of the options you list, but every experience counts!

I'm pretty sure this video is coming 100% from the Sony A7siii paired with a Sony 20mm f/1.8. It's a combination that's pretty hard to beat when the goal is to output high quality without getting to cumbersome to cover a lot of ground.

That is a pretty tough question. In the end, if I could pay the same price for both shoes, I think I might be influenced to go with the 7s by an illogical desire for what is newer, but as long as you can find them in your size, I can only imagine the 6s have a much lower cost and much higher performance to cost ratio.

I'm glad there are so many good suggestions like this in the comments here, and I hope people find them. I haven't tried offerings from other brands similar to the Lone Peak (like the g270 v2) because I'm actually in love with the Altra Mont Blanc and don't find many excuses to swap them out for an alternative on the trail.

I've been using the 7s as everyday wear-around shoes ever since this review. I don't know if that actually translates much to hiking, but they've held up well and are still very comfortable. I would think about the 7s as hikers as long as there was a big enough discount on them to get well under the price of the 8s that are already cheaper.

This is a really great question, Arora. Honestly, the last time I was using waterproof shoes consistently, I was doing a lot more hiking than running. For me, keeping my feet dry in a waterproof trail shoe requires me to spend so much time and mental energy trying to avoid water that is too deep for the shoes, that I get less running and less enjoyment out of my time. I usually run between 45 minutes and 2 hours, and I don't mind having my feet get a little bit damp for that amount of time. I think the Lone Peak line has had decent drainage, and the same is probably true for the 7, though the increased padding in the upper will hang on to a little more water around the ankle collar. I could say more, but I think it might devolve into personal preference. I hope that helps.

@@KentMearig thanks so much, this is a very thoughtful answer. If you had to go on longer trails of unknown nature (3-6 hours), would you choose the lone peak 7 or waterproof shoes?

@@aroraparivar9644 If I was running for those hours, I would definitely choose a shoe with more cushion under foot than the LP7, whether it was waterproof or not. I think maybe there's an all weather version of the Olympus, but maybe that's only in more of a hiking version. I think I would consider looking into a shoe like that for hiking, even the waterproof LP, but right now I just hike in rubber boots if I know I've got to cross streams or slog through mud on part of my hike. It's a very personal choice as far as what works for your feet and what doesn't.

I can't remember whether I had 50 or 100 miles in the LP6s before making my "initial impressions" video, but nothing really changed as I used them longer. Since the LP5, I can basically expect to stretch the Lone Peak line to about 400 mi before the outsole, midsole, and upper are all pretty much at the end of their life.

What a bummer! I can't say I don't prefer the toe protection on the last two versions, and replacing it with the welded instead of stitched overlay isn't enough to keep this new version from getting heavier. I've seen shoes on other runner's from other brands with peeling overlays, but it's definitely a problem that Altra has not mastered over the years. Thanks for giving everyone a heads up.

Sizing is such a hard question to answer, but here's what I think. I typically go back and forth between 10.5 and 11 in Altra shoes. Very rarely even the 11s feel too small, and occasionally 10.5s are comfortable for long miles. With the LP7, I went with an 11 to be safe, and I don't think it was a bad fit for me...but because I prefer my shoes on the small side whenever possible, I would probably try a 10.5 if I ever bought a second pair. So the short answer is...no?

@@MrMars121 I don't have a broad range of shoe experiences to pull from. If I were looking for a "do it all" shoe, I would try to find a pair of LP6s in my size (1/2 up for that version) at a discounted price, and then I would try to do less road and more trail/hike.

Dude! I thought I was going to like the look of these shoes (not the red/yellow), but whenever I'm actually wearing them and I look down at my feet, I hate it. I guess they kind of look better from the side if you're down with a 90's "skater shoe" vibe.

Assuming you mean a little bit of roads to trail, yes. Even though the lugs are more aggressive than some trail shoes, they're pretty uniformly spaced and results on the road are smooth for the most part. If you mean walking to work, I do it sometimes, but these shoes aren't my first choice.

One good thing about Lone Peaks is that unlike other Altra lines, I haven't needed to glue them back together...and in a way I guess it's nice when you know how to fix a shoe falling apart yourself. I was happy to do it with my Mont Blancs before getting 500 more miles out of the shoes.

If you don't mind the weight and minimal cushion, I think that would be a fair idea. They do seem to hold up and handle the trails pretty well.
