Whilst the foam feels a bit stiff in the winter at the moment, I'm getting on well with them. Don't under estimate the benefits of the wider toe box. We have got "used" to narrower shoes over the years but this is terrible for foot strength and also gives you much less chance of blisters as the toes aren't bunched up together. Great review Lloyd.
The width in the toe box wasn't the issue Phil, I really like that! It was the midsoles performance I wasn't sure about, it did feel quite flat and stiff! 👍
@@Run4Adventure Yes I agree with that. I find it does warm up the longer I'm out in them but feels very stiff at the start of each run for at least 30 mins.
right but by the time of summer it will feel even more cumbersome with less clothing weight and body weight -0--that is yep assuming they will break in at all, which some people report they haven't to date.....it's been some months....
i found that the foam never did soften up. i've been putting in 15 to 20 miles every saturday for around six weeks in the via olympus and they are still just rock hard. i also feel like i am constantly adjusting the laces, and the outsides of my feet are in rough shape after 90 mins. i am going back to the paradigm.
@@markslagle9742 fair do's Mark. I mostly run trails in the Altra Olympus and get on really well with them completing two ultras last year in them. The via's are very similar and so work really well for me. Good luck in your training 💪
You know me, I love my Altras and I spend all my time in Escalante or Lone Peaks or my new Torin6. It’s about time Altra mixed up the colours, for too long the men’s offerings have been boring IMHO. And I always think it’s interesting that Altra and the running community think that making a shoebox “toe shaped” is a unique selling point?! Surely ALL shoes should be the shape of your foot unless you’re a podiatrist designing something to bring you business 😂 My first Altras felt too wide until I ran and then when my feet spread they fitted superb. Never looked back
I wish more manufacturers would give more room in the toe box. I remember a pair of Nike trail shoes I had looking similar look about 10 years ago and were great.
A couple years ago when i first started running ,i remember buying some nike running shoes at WSS for about 90 bucks and they were so good ,then they started releasing crappy stiff shoes that broke down very quick, thats when i left nike
I love Altra, I prefer my Torin 6 and Velocity Tempo over the Via Olympus. I didn’t get a run in them (the return policy didn’t allow) but I did wear for a few hours indoors and loved everything but the midsole. It was way to firm, which I had heard. At 235lbs I thought I could get some give out of it but guess not. Stick with the Torins and Tempo.
@@slavasss2189 torin is way too little support. lmfao. they definitely failed on both. tempo also not enough support, as do vc. paradigm would be nice if it's wider and shorter as were the og ones(from 2016)
Altra used to do shoes only in Original wide toebox like this one. But now they have 3 different footshapes. Original, Standard and Slim. They have shoes in each category. For example, their Rivera model is for slim footshapes. You probably would be better off in Standard or Slim models.
Would love to see a Lone Route. Altras are apparently the only shoes that fit me. Other shoes are just not wide enough, or the wide of other brands don't come in my size or I have to get an extra wide. But, I'm also not sure about that amount of stack height. I have the Mont Blancs too, but that already is to me a bit too much stack height at times. Doesn't feel as stable.
You might like the Escalante for roads then. If they’re wide enough. They’re much lower stack height. I have Escalante Racer for roads and Lone Peaks for trails.
@@Dailydivefix Haven't been able to find one in my size that ships to or sells in Japan. Hoping to Altra Japan store soon will be bumping up max size from 13 to 14, because then if they don't fit I could return them. And then maybe an Escalante Racer 2? That would be sweet.
@@HikyakuExplorer Hope you’re able to find some soon 🤞. I have a little stockpile at home in case they change them (they do seem to be increasing stack height on everything except Lone Peaks). But Racer 2 could be fun if they don’t do that.
they should have given the lone peak the vibram razorclaws or jawclaws or whatever the fuck they call it (but with more durable compound obviously) and litebase(again....), maybe even cold grip or some better fancy stuff. and of course boa too since the thing is 300g+ anyways. and lose the olympus it's chunky as fuck and not even high enough roomage inside and just feels like a tanking simp of hoka only zero drop ----it's not special enough and it's not altra enough it's like altra be like "oh racers u go be shills, and the normies take these travel lite trek shoes cus u cannot win podiums anyways" i've entertained their "lineup" and bought 9 out of 10 available "flagships" 2022- and they still haven't stocked the lp7 to this date in china it's absurd. words on march but honestly why do i even simp this brand anymore? golden get back and do some honest work and bring back the intuition with outroad or other hybrid kind lug shapes or something ffs. anyone can only wear one pair at a time why not wear it ALL the time? it should be called ALLroad if anything
If its a Altra Road shoe you're after, I'd maybe look at a different model. I wasn't impressed with the VIA OLYPUS, it felt to firm and stiff for my liking 🤔. Thanks for watching and good luck with the come back!
I just thought it's a strange colour way for a man's shoe Alan. I'm all for bright running shoes and I actually have a pair of the pink Endorphin Pro 3's and I love them. But this colourway is odd! 👍
I’ve done hundreds of miles in lone peak 6 and superior 5 and they’re still as good as new. I only run on the trails though so wouldn’t recommend them for roads
I retired my Torin 4.5 at 600km, still had life in it. They've definitely improved construction, but i haven't run in any new Altra road models in the last 2 years.
If you stay on trails, Olympus, Lone Peak, can last a good long while. But if you commute (road to trail), forget it. The MaxTrack garbage is especially prone to wear and scuffing within 20-30 miles (literally, especially on Timp 4). Otherwise decent if (I think) over-priced.
Zero drop running shoes are a no for me. I know it’s Altras selling point but it would be great if they offered a few of their models in a 5mm drop like Topo Athletic do.
@@iberiksoderblom Obviously we weren't born with an off set Erik! But a lot of us have spent most of our lives in shoes with one. Heel off set and Zero drop is a super personal thing and just because it works well for you doesn't mean its right for everyone 👍
@@lyrilljackson I'm not sure its silly, it's the truth. I'm not taking just about running shoes but shoes in general. Most people are put into shoes with a heel off set at a very young age. Weather its the right thing to do or not, that's what happens 🤔
