One thing to be aware of is, I was researching people who had been on compounded retinoids from Agency and Curology and when they went to the same percentage of a prescription Tret as they’d been on in their compounded future formula, their skin really reacted as if they were on an increased strength. There have been a lot of hypotheses that the percentage of tretinoin is degraded by the actives that it’s mixed with. At one point, I have been considering, trying the compounded formula, did a lot of research and found well respected Cosmetic chemist, Michelle (You Tube’s Lab Muffin Beauty Science) who recommends non compounded prescription tubes over compounded ones due to stability concerns (which some people notice in the way of scratchy crystals in their formulas), the very short shelflife of the compounded formula versus prescription tubes, and also because the compounding pharmacists do not test the percentage after mixing everything so there’s no guarantee The other ingredients don’t affect its potency versus when you get it in a tube. This may not happen to you, but just wanted to pass along the warning to be prepared that the percentage that you get from a tube may affect your skin more strongly than the compounded formula. I don’t think it’s because of the other actives they put in there, making it more gentle. Another thing, the cosmetic chemist recommends is that they use the same ingredients and percentages for all their other active in the formula, which may work well for blending it, but that doesn’t mean it works well with tretinoin. @@ritas1433I just checked online & while Altreno lists the bigger 45 gram tube’s MSRP as $115, I checked all pharmacies and WITH a good rx coupon, the least expensive is $118 with average price being around $130-135. I always get the bigger tube as it’s more cost effective. I use Retin-A which ironically is cheaper in U.S. than it’s generic Tretinoin, and the 45 gram is approx $50-60 with a good rx coupon so about half the price comparing brand name ro brand name. (Generic Tretinoin is pricier than Retin-A). But I’ve found retin-a to be a pain to layer, it’s not a very smooth application so I’m looking in to trying Altreno. A huge plug that I don’t have to worry about it degrading in light because I often stay up late with the lights off watching TV and I’ve always been worried that maybe that might be the reason I’ve seen no results from Tret . I’m .025 which I use 6 nights a week. I use acids on the other night. I like Sarah’s idea of using every other night with a salicylic acid or other AHA/BHA as Tret alone was not giving my skin the glow that I get from Dr Dennis Gross Alpha beta exfoliating peel pads which I stopped using when I started Tretinoin.

When did you start to see results?

@@jackieortiz316 You need to start slow and give it time to work it's magic. Brightness started fairly quickly but I'd say took 6 months to see gradual improvement in discoloration. My suggestion is that you take before pictures to see the changes. Good luck.😃

Hi Sarah, now that it’s time to increase my tretinoin from .025 (which really hasn’t done anything noticeable for my skin 6 nights a week in six months) to .05, i’m considering Altreno to Tret. I watched a video by Dr. Dray and she mentioned that there is no Studies on how it does for anti-aging versus tretinoin. This confused me because I don’t know why it would be less effective given it’s still Tretinoin in another vehicle Plus more hydrating ingredients. How long have you been on it now and is it responsible for this gorgeous glow on your skin? I will eventually wanna go up to The highest percentage that’s only available in the cream, so if I was to go on Altreno, it would just be while I adjusted my skin to the percentages. Unless of course it’s so amazing that I don’t ever need to go up. Would love to hear more about your experience. Big hugs to you three fur babies. Ike is truly the cutest! Love my dogs so much. @@jhovany9792I believe it’s left overnight. I use a regular tret and leave it on overnight. It’s works into the skin pretty quickly

It really is an amazing ingredient it has so much good for my skin, especially my pores. They are so much smaller than before. Azelaic acid has to be my best fave ingredient!

@@ritas1433 I pay 60 for a 2 month supply. I only use the formula every other night so it last me about 3.5 months. I like it a lot. I started at a super low amount of tret but had almost no irritation.

Oh yes will do! I'm loving it so much, I can even tell a difference in my skin if I skip it for more than a day. I'm currently enjoying sandwiching it between the Aesterua 365 Ato Cream and the isntree Yam Root Vegan Milk Cream. Will do an updated routine!

That is so strange, I'm glad they were able to give you a new tube but that seems odd and I start to wonder if it was perhaps a bad batch? I've stored mine in the bathroom and it still has its original gel-ish texture. From my research I found that storing it in the fridge (if it is below 60 degrees which I'm sure yours is) can cause it to degrade faster (just like storing it in the heat). I almost wonder if you should ask for something with a different batch code if that is possible? I actually did have issues the first time I picked my Altreno because it had already expired, then when I went to have the pharmacy replace it the next tube was from the exact same expired batch.

@@NOBSBeauty by any chance, do you have one of those serum fridges and do they allow you to adjust the temperature up high enough that it would work for the Altreno guidelines? You wouldn’t believe the amount of time I’ve been on the phone with Bausch health over the last week. (Probably about three hours, getting no answers, but having them cause an even bigger head he.!)🤬They took my information last week, passed me along to medical (an incredibly rude pharmacist i’ve since had the displeasure of speaking to twice.) . He also claimed to have no knowledge of the texture of their product, which I am still shocked about since he works there and is there medical “specialist.” The temp allowed for Altreno is oddly very specific vs for their Retin A (brand is cheaper here than geberic so I still have some R-A which they also make); the only temp rec for cream is you keep it below 80 def F so it’s much less sensitive, apparently. I definitely won’t put Altreno in fridge based on their warning; where did you find info on it degrading,? I was searching everywhere for info on temperature affecting the consistency or degrading Altreno, but I couldn’t find anything specific to the brand lotion except a few unrelated things on Reddit I asked Bausch’s pharmacist if it had been tested at lower or higher temperatures than what they provided as “ideal “, he said that there was “no data“. I asked if that meant that it was not tested at other temps and he said he didn’t know weather no doubt I meant it hadn’t been tested, or it simply wasn’t provided. (sounds like he was reading right out of the box. Insert and really knows nothing about the products other than what I could’ve found myself. Some specialist!) Scientifically, I would hope they would have to test it at all other temperatures in order to say that those other ones were ideal but I could not get an answer.. I told him it was really sad that I had to go to RU-vid, and to Reddit to find out what the consistency of the product would be because no one at their company knows. Bausch really screwed up because they were supposed to call me back before calling in a replacement tube (if approved) because the pharmacist, referred me to their other department for clarity on what the consistency should be, and I had insisted that it was important for me to hear before considering any replacement. I also wanted to make sure that they weren’t going to send a soon to be expired tube. No one did what I asked. I got a voicemail that they were sending a new tube to CVS. Then I got a text from CVS that they were filling one of my two refills as if I had ordered it.. tried to call CVS to correct this, only to find out that they no longer allow you to wait on hold for the pharmacy and you know I have to leave a voicemail and wait for them to call you back. Three hours later, I heard back. CVS wouldn’t fix the screw up on my refills until the box arrives from the manufacturer; actually, it’s not coming from the manufacturer, but from the distributor so, for all, I know, it could expire in a month.,. Bausch me they have no control over this. WTH? Oh I was seething. My face was probably as red as a tomato. I told Bosch I plan to blast this all over social media about their abominable customer service and lack of product knowledge; no one there seems to know anything about the consistency of the product, including their pharmacist who is incredibly rude. Typical corporate America that they blame their distributor about sending out soon to be expired boxes. I told him about your experience and said, if they’re aware of this, they need to do something about it, not blame the distributor and take no accountability.. how about not using a distributor that sends out old product? As you can imagine, I seriously regret ever calling Bausch. If the box that comes in has a shorter shelf life than the one that I have, then they can keep their box and I won’t be swapping it out. I have since kept the lotion in the cooler bathroom, which is a pain to schlep to every night in the dark, but at least the product is no longer running down my arm. I really do think it has to do with the temp in our house & anticipate that any other tube I pick up, would also experience the same issue because we’re not running our C/A 24/7 and Altreno seems to be especially sensitive to temperature change (as opposed to the cream) which it’s disappointing because I love everything else about it and can’t imagine switching back to the cream.

The pharmacist there is confused and thinks that they have to return my old product to Bausch before they can give me the new product (which they don’t even have yet.) I had an exploding tube of the Tret cream last year, and the Costco pharmacy handled it seamlessly within two days. This has been like a two week nightmare, which apparently is due to CVS refusing to work with Bausch. I just about lost it on the pharmacist today when she misunderstood that she can’t swap the tube. What does she think they’re sending the other tube for? 🤯

Oh thank you so much! If you do apply it there be sure to use moisturizer or mix the altreno with a bit of moisturizer before applying. I haven't used it there because my neck is super sensitive. it also might be worth trying a gentle retinol first and see how your skin handles it.

I've not heard that, but I've had great luck sandwiching it. Probably isn't as effective doing it this way, but in the winter especially this is what works best for my skin.

That is so nice, it's a real money block for people to get tretinoin here, especially when you have to fork over to see a dermatologist, then pay for the prescription.

Oh no, I think we've all been there at least once and it's a mistake you'll never make twice I can tell you that. Use lots of Vaseline and a good soothing cream until it heals up.

Yes. Always leave retinol on. Apply a moisturizer afterward. Do not wash it off.
