I was recently diagnosed with rosacea at 37 years young. My skincare routine is quite simple and focused on active ingredients, but I had to tweak it and some things (like glycolic acid cleanser 3.5% had to go because it had menthol) had to leave the shelf. In the morning I rinse with just water, then antioxidant serum, them azaleic acid cream (Skinoren that is 200mg/g, in Poland it is actualy OTC medication), moisturizer and SPF. In the evening I stick to double cleans as it is very gentle, then moisturizer and prescribed Soolantra. I will go back to retinol once I finish Soolantra and I like to use retinol + Ducray Kerancyl repair cream. And I also got oral isotretinoin to get rid of bumps.
I watched your mistakes with azelaic acid video and I messed up! I used other stuff ! Do I just press restart ?! I did buy an antioxidant blend from Paulas choice with vitamin c (thd) to use with it, but first 2 weeks use nothing? I also can't find anything on anti aging products with rosacea. I know I need to wait a bit, but I just want to know what's safe. I would love a video on this!
Thank you for your super informative videos about Rosacea. I struggled with my rosacea for about 8 years but now I have started to manage my rosacea acnes and flare ups and now even I can use low percentage retinoid but I have black heads and I know the best ingredient to help with blackheads is salicylic acid but it irritates my skin. Do you have any recommendation for treating them ?
I very much appreciate your videos. There's no juvenile silliness or rapid-fire "selling" seen in many other people's videos, and your entire demeanor is professional, and just extremely pleasant. Thank you.
I just recently developed rosacea and your content has been super informative. How do you feel about Metronidazole cream? I just got it prescribed and so far it has gotten the flare ups under control within a few weeks of usage. Just wanted your expert opinion on it. Thanks so much!
Thank you for all the rosacea content lately. Which of these ingredients is best for flushing? I suffer with that on my nose and cheeks but I never get the spots
I dont think any of these topical ingredients will reduce flushing. Flushing can be managed by avoiding triggers and sometimes by using drugs like Clonidine or Propranolol
Thank you! I have rosacea and this information is not only helpful but comforting in some weird way....I'm not alone. Dr Sam, please make a video on how to remove facial hair safely for rosacea patients; what is safe and what to avoid. I can't use chemical exfoliants to smooth out the skin. Waxing is not an option. I'm using scissors to "remove" some hair and it is very ineffective. I tried shaving in the past with lot of irritation. Please help!
I have rosacea and I found Azaleic Acid to be quite horrible. I have to work quite hard to keep my dehydrated skin hydrated but this really turned my face into a barren desert, it was horrible.
Is it ok to use vitamin c with ivermectin or Azelaic acid cream? Also could you do a video on how to layer skin treatments? Eg niacinamide before or after azelaic acid or Trevino in or moisturizer? Thank you
I have rosacea and my skin do not tolerate Azelaic acid. It makes my skin itch like furiously crazy. I scratch ny neck red and bruised, and I don't even apply it to the neck. It also itch my face but my neck react like crazy. The best I've tried where anti-biotics (Tetracycline/Tetralysal). It did wonders! Maybe I should give Soolantra a try next flare up. Retinoids like tret doesn't work, but Differin is the best!
This is very helpful Dr Sam but as with everything in skincare not everything is universal (except for daily sunscreen use). I personally struggle with zinc oxide as it is too drying on my skin and prefer to stick to chemical sunscreens or hybrid formulas. I am also extremely sensitive to niacinamide. Anything above 5% will severely affect my skin and I know I am not the only one with this problem. Another thing I noticed is that many people think they have rosacea without being assesses by a doctor when redness, flushing and breakouts can be a symptom of many other issues. X
Very informative video. Although I am not officially diagnosed yet but I have constant redness on my cheeks with some bumps that comes and goes. I am brown skinned but bit on the fairer side.
Thank you for your video.. I've been diagnosed with rosacea few months back and I've tried so many different things ..... at the moment I'm loving Paula's choice azelaic acid as you mentioned plus I got prescribed cream from Dermatica so 🤞🏻 it all goes well.
thank you for this. what do you do for patients who have tried all of these options but are still flaring? I'm type 1, and am currently on AA, Oracea, and I do VBeam. Still flaring badly. I haven't tried soolantra yet, but thinking that may be my next option. I'm curious to know what sort of treatments you offer for those difficult to treat patients. Sadly, I fall in this category :(
I have had rosacea for ages (mostly redness that travels around my face and flushing). Within last year or so I have noticed some papules emerging my cheek and temple. I have been treated with antibiotics, soolantra, azelaic acid with no improvement (Azelaic acid made my face red, itchy and flaky). I am now on a low dose isotretinoin and metronidazol and while improvement has been slow I have been very happy with this treatment so far. I have also struggled with finding good sunprotection. As much as I would like to use mineral sunscreen I find them impossible to wear. Every single one I have tried has left prominent white cast which would have to be covered with makeup. Unfortunately even the most natural makeup will look cakey and mask-like when applied over mineral sunscreen.
Alumier hydrating sheer untinted sunscreen is nice,at little white c st at first but wears of to leave shin glowing,I to have mild rosacea and this is first mineral sunscreen I can use
I use a mineral spf which is pretty casty - water resistant and spf 50 - coppertone pure and simple. To cover the cast I use cetaphil tinted spf 20. I find this better than using just a tinted one, as you need to apply such a big amount. And it's pretty affordable 👌
Hello Mam, how about including ILLIYOON Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream.. pls share your opinion using this on face with active serum like Retinol, Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Aha + Bha exfoliation, peptide...
I started using soolantra when I went to the derm. And after a few months it started to work really well along with anti biotics that she prescribed me unfortunately you have to be rich in order to afford these 2 things cause insurance doesn't cover it. So I had to stop using it all I couldn't afford it anymore nor could I afford to continue going to my derm even though I have really good full coverage insurance. The derm is the biggest rip off. I've since had to battle this on my own and nothing works other than prescribed stuff. Nothing else over the counter really does anything.
i dont have rosacea my dermatologist said I had, on one cheek, a vasodilated (?) veins and the cheek is pink like if it were blush --does it make sense?
i was prescribed rhofade and prior to using that each morning, i was using a vitamin c serum. i read somewhere that it's ok to put the serum on and then rhofade so i've been doing that successfully without any flare-ups. my first question is, is that ok to do? lol is it able to work properly that way? also, how long does it take to notice a difference? does rhofade work well with other actives? how am i supposed fo apply it? (can it be near eyes/lips, should it go on all face skin or just the parts that get red, etc). does it have any benefits besides reducing redness?
Thank you for your channel so informative I also have rosacea soolantra has worked don’t use much now rosacea is under control however I do use under my eye also I purchased omnilux red lite therapy using about 2 weeks no problem just to let u know
Thank you so much for the valuable information you so generously share. My question is: can you mix prescription Azelaic Acid together with a moisturizer, hence putting them on your skin at the same time. I am having problems with redness ++ when using prescription Azelaic Acid. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you👌. Brenda
I am 63. I was diagnosed with Rosacea 2 years ago. I tried Trention before that. I was fine. There was a makeup line that broke me out bad. The dermatologist diagnosed me having Rosacea. She put me on the antibiotics and the cream you mentioned. I just couldn't take the antibiotics and the cream was so expensive and didn't work. Later I went back on Trention through Curolgy again. So far good. Thanks
Hi Dr sam your products have really helped play down my rosecea and normalise my skin. I use finacea at night and brightly in the morning. I am hoping to swap the finacea for nightly at some point. My question is can I go on using Azelaic acid indefinitely. I was diagnosed with rosecea last July?
Hi, I’m still experiencing redness++ after starting to use prescription Azelaic Acid. I don’t apply it every day. Do you have any suggestions? Also can you combine Azelaic Acid with a moisturizer and putting them together on your face at the same time? Thank you, looking forward to your suggestions.👌. Brenda
I’ll suggest you stick to the OTC Azelaic Acid and gradually move to the prescription strength. Don’t mix with your Moisturiser, apply the Azelaic Acid first then follow up with your Moisturiser after a few seconds then your mineral spf.
Thank you so much for this. I have watched your other vids and have put together a skincare care package for my Mum with all the handy hints you've passed on. The doctors here are pretty slack at prescribing effective medication and little to no aftercare advice, but Ive been able to put a comprehensive plan for my Mum. So thank you so much !!
Lene Skov, my derm recommended Soolantra during the day, and my Obagi .025% Tretinoin Cream at night. I’m not qualified to answer for your skin, but this is helping me, I think. I have acne rosacea, and it’s difficult to find balance. In addition, I use Dr. Sam’s Flawless Cleanser and Flawless Moisturizer. Also, I will be receiving a shipment today from Dr. Sam, and I’ll finally get to try her mineral sunscreen. I only use mineral filters. (The product for lips contains lanolin, and I’m allergic to lanolin, so I can’t use the lip product unfortunately.) Hard as I’ve tried, I haven’t found any products that work as well as Dr. Sam’s. I have the products shipped internationally, and I stock up!♥️
Thank you Dr Sam. I can’t use niacinamide on my rosacea skin. I can not tolerate 10% azelaic acid either 😢 Have you considered making a pure 5-10 percent azelaic acid serum or cream with no other active ingredients, just moisturizing? This is missing in the great productworld I think. There is usually always other acid in all azelaic product out there.
I’m using skin and me they can tailor the % for what works best for your skin. Not cheap but has been working for me so far. I didn’t think I could tolerate niacinamide but the 4% in my prescription is working and I’ve built up to 14% azelaic acid over a few months.
is the treatment for steroid rosacea different from regular rosacea? I stopped using steroid creams few days ago in the hopes of getting my old face color back though I'm starting to grow acne/allergies again.
