Dang man thank you for the bees wax tip, I am definately going to use that one. Just a useful as the tip I got to spray wd-40 on your die grinder burr bit to grind aluminum. Knowledge is power. You always do top notch work. I agree with the spool gun you can do nice work with a spool gun. I got the full old school tig setup for my old shopmaster 300. Found a HF arc starter box. bought a brand new miller foot pedal. and got a tig torch. And that setup has yet to pay for itself. While the spool gun has paid for itself many times over and then some.
Well trailer good and solid worked with ally but never welded it left that to guys like you who new you're stuff, you always entertain and educate in you're videos and you always show the good and bad, hope you feeling better take care regards to you and family
I always get something out of watching your videos. I would’ve never known you don’t feel well. You do a good job and honestly, you’re plenty “entertaining” just being yourself, teaching and sharing your vast set of knowledge. I hope you’re feeling better!
Hey, just an FYI when you’re using carbide burrs on aluminum, grab yourself some dish soap and dunk your bit in it from time to time, it won’t contaminate the surface like oils will, and it’s easy to wash off with a wet rag, sometimes I even dilute it a little bit, another thing that helps is to by coated burrs, what is actually happening is that you are getting chip welding to your tool, another thing that helps is to turn down the RPM of your burr, if possible, livestock trailers are really contaminated ,so I use aluminum wheel cleaner and a pressure washer and give them a bath, fyi don’t do it in the sun, or with a hot surface on the trailer, it can stain the aluminum
I'd weld that gap up on the bottom and fill the gap. No problem with the Lincoln Power Mig and a Cobra gun. You can weld it nearly as easy as if you were running steel with the right setup. 42 years experience doing this. Not much impresses me but when Lincoln demonstrated the machine I have to say I was impressed. Spool gun hasn't been used since. I'm sure Miller has a unit that would do the same.
I weld on fishing boats in Alaska, we use these kwiktool c7 bad blades on 4 inch grinders to gouge out aluminum. They're gnarly looking wheels but a very clean way to remove aluminum fast. Love the videos!
Holy moly I looked those blades up when I saw this comment...what came up looked like circular saw blades and I know that would work great on a grinder to gouge out aluminum welds but it also looks as dangerous as runnin a brush chipper while drinkin moonshine....if ya hit yourself with one of those its gonna leave a mark
Great video and nice repair on the trailer. I think the fasteners used on the latch and hinges are Huckbolts. The bolt gets fed from the inside , into the nut that has no place for a wrench. an air operated gun is slid over the bolt and up against the nut. When you pull the trigger the gun pulls on the bolt and pushes on the nut. That pulls all the materials up tight. The gun is still pulling the bolt while the taper on the nut goes further in the gun. collapsing the nut around the threads on the bolt. There's no way to loosen the bolt and nut. You cave to cut them off.
Us can use wD40 on the bit's and the aluminum and keep applying it and it works great even on your flap disc on everything and soak it good. Works way better than bee's wax it gets in everywhere.
Man that is one hell of a mess and when ur done with it it looks great whoever did the cob job on it before it came to you should’ve been sent back to welding school my god what a mess but anyway hope ur feeling better by now and great job as always👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Those rub wheels work on the hard road...dunno about the farmers and the off road with the rocks...with rub wheels fastened to the aluminum it might just cause them to rip a huge chunk out of the back of the trailer
It will work if you wait for it to clog then use it...you'll sand with it for a few seconds after applying it and then notice it all of a sudden begin to sand much better. I do sometimes apply it before I start using it and that doesn't hurt anything but I haven't found that it helps either...if you continue to apply each time the pad gets clogged it generally makes it work again
Ain’t repairing and welding on old dirty, manure rotten aluminum stock trailers fun!? Being able to weld on new aluminum in a shop environment has nothing to do with what you’re welding on! Me, I use 5356 on working trailers and dump bodies for the higher tensile strength but 4043 definitely runs and looks better. As for the carbide burrs, they are called “Aluma-Cut” burrs. Nice repair on a terrible patient. Hope you feel better.
I saw over your shoulder in the video that you have an xmt 304,,,I' have the same unit, how has yours held up and what are you using it for in your shop to weld mostly? great video and always looking for a glimpse of Miss Diane also....
I've had my XMT for over 20 years, bought it used on ebay...it has been a great machine...I use it for stick welding and carbon arc mostly...I've ran wire feeders with it alot too but I rarely do that anymore because I have two Millermatics
Spray wd 40 on your carbide burr to prevent loading up with aluminum, spray ❤your loaded burr with wd 40 , use it and the aluminum will fly off the burr.
I was using a cup full of motor oil to dip the burr bit into on this job but I still had to stop and pick aluminum off of it from time to time I don't buy normally buy WD-40
@@NBSWELDING the standard for machining aluminum if you don't have fancy coolant is kerosene and wd 40 is fancy kerosene in a can. If you try it you'll like it.!!! You'd think oil is the same but it's not ! And that's no B.S.
I don't buy WD-40 because I make my own Ed's Red...and the Ed's Red is one part kerosene, one part transmission fluid, and one part mineral spirits (so one third of it is kerosene)...but I've tried the Ed's Red on the carbide burrs for aluminum and it doesn't seem to help at all Someone mentioned running the burrs at a lower RPM on aluminum and I think that may be the bulk of my issues with the burrs clogging with aluminum....the end grinder I'm using is probably spinning the tool way to fast for the aluminum
