Saw The Wedding Singer with my wife when it came out. My wife refused to believe this was a real song until I played it for her. She thought it was made just for the movie.
Love J.Geils. Especially their older stuff... Whammer Jammer, Ain't Nothing But A House Party, Got to Give It To Me, and others I can't think of right now!!! They're bangers!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I am 50 and every year my parent pick out a concert to take me and my 4 older sisters to...this was my dads favorite! They were with Bob Seger..my parents are in their late 70s ❤
Old-school J. Geils is always the best: "Looking for a Love" "Ain't Nothin' but a (House) Party" "Love-itis" "Hard Drivin' Man" and a harmonica instrumental "Whammer Jammer"
BTW I'm from Boston. Saw Bassist Danny Kliens " Full House Band " last spring. Used to see Peter Wolf around the city often. He would hang and check out local bands. Very cool.he supported local music.
you MUST do "musta got lost". it is very VERY important that you do the live version though. the live version became the standard. their older stuff is actually very JAM, just so you know. love you guys
You two should check out the LIVE version of "Musta Got Lost" from the J. Geils band's album "Live: Blow Your Face Out"! The reason you should listen to this gem from 1976 is because after hearing the introduction to the song, you may find yourselves wondering if lead singer Peter Wolf may have been one of the Fathers of RAP MUSIC! And, Amber, I usually can't hear this song without thinking of that hilarious scene from "The Wedding Singer", either!
I saw J. Geils in the winter of 1981. The singer Peter Wolf really knew how to work the crowd and the band was flawless. The song Just Can't Wait live in 1984 deserves a reaction too!
One of the best live bands out there. Older stuff is more blues and R & B. Check out the live version of Must Have got Lost off the live album Blow Your Face Out. Other great songs are Houseparty. Whammer Jammer and Sanctuary.
"Rage in the Cage," "Centerfold," "Flamethrower," and "Piss on the Wall," all from the Freeze-Frame album are good party songs, played at early 1980s college frat parties.
J. Geils Band lead singer Peter Wolf is from Boston & I have seen him walking around Boston, Cambridge & Somerville over the years wearing all black contrasting his pale skin.
My theme song, "LOVE STINKS". I use to have this on a 45 single that I bought when it first came out... An interesting song of theirs is from the "Centerfold" Lp called "Flamethrower". The r&b stations even played this...
Was the best party band ever! Their concerts were nothing more than a 50,000 people dance partay! 😊 I know you will love Houseparty, Lookin For A Love, Whammer Jammer
Funny that you referenced Valentine's Day. My band was playing an anti-Valentine's Day party last year at a bar and we specifically added this song to our sets just for that party.
I saw J. Geils live at City Park Stadium in 1974. I was 13 years old and had never heard them before. Richard Salwitz blew me away with his Harmonica playing on "I must Have Got lost" some others who performed there that day was Peter Frampton and Montrose among others but J. Geils Band stole the show for me.
After church one Sunday we did our usual and ate at the local restaurant and this came on the jukebox. The look on my mother's face was priceless. My brother and I fell out of our chairs laughing at her.
Thanks for picking this! This was a high school dance floor favorite back in the day! I miss the days when the average song on the radio was this good.
They were so great live. I saw them with Rick Derringer and Blue Oyster Cult (and others) in a stadium and while Derringer and Blue Oyster Cult were very good, J. Geils had the whole stadium on their feet throughout their set. Great, great live band.
Boy this took me waaay back, one of the early videos on MTV. I believe this song was released in the late 70's, early 80's. I had several of their [vinyl] albums, including this one. They have some even older LIVE songs that you should react to, not the studio versions in this case.
Their top 40 hits are so different from early J Geils. They have some early live Albums that are awesome! Solid Bluesy Harmonica Rock without ever taking pause for a breath! Some of the best ever laid down, pure fire. Check out Wammer Jammer from 1972 off the 'Live - Full House' Album for example. Cheers.
Back in the day a keg of crummy beer and J. Geils Band blaring was the recipe for a great party! PLEASE check out the live version of Musta Got Lost on the Blow Your Face Out LIVE album! Hilarious and a great jam too!
Love these guys! You have got to check out Give it to Me. It has a funky groove, 3 different solos by 3 different instruments, plus bongos, a whistle, and a chant. I mean c'mon, what's not to love?
I've seen just about every one of your reactions and I was in my car when "Born to Run" came on. Don't believe y'all have done that Springsteen classic. Would love to see that one!!
I had a friend whose last name was Love. When he walked into the room, I would hold my nose as say, "Phew, Love stinks!" He would then punch me in the arm and say, "Love hurts." (The song by Nazareth).
My band use to play this, starting with a solo guitar and vocal "Unchained Melody" intro (First verse/chorus) before switching to that drum beat (after "god speed your love to me...").
J. Geils was the best Boston party band. Saw them maybe 20 -30 times while I was in college there at local clubs. Peter Wolf was also a DJ at WBCN - one of the best FM stations of the time, and talked in rap all the time. "Love Stinks" was 18 years before "The Wedding Singer"
@@michaelasay8587 Not that many - 3 that I can see on Billboard - with another dozen or so in the top 50, along with a #1 album. But what does that have to do with their reputation as a top party band?
I've always loved this song. Funny thing, in The Wedding Singer movie where he sings this song, the couple who got married names are Scott and Cindy which is mine and my wife's names. I always think that could have been him singing at our wedding since we were married in the 80's also. A few years after the movie came out, wife asked me to make a mixed cd for a coworkers bridal shower, so I just had to add this song to the end.
I'm so glad you reacted to this! I've always loved this song, and the video cracks me up! I went through a period where I really felt that way, so I could relate to this song at that time! Your next J. Geils reaction should be "Flamethrower" (link below). It's fire! Thank you so much for a great reaction! ✌💙✌ Flamethrower - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UUnZYnqEKJk.html
My sister was a huge Geils fan -- and you heard them all the time living in Boston. One that always stuck with me is "Lookin' for a Love" ... Hearing their older stuff, you'll get much more of the band's musicality. You've pretty much only heard their later MTV stuff, which got more commercial and simpler. Still good, But you need to hear them plaaaay!
True story when I worked as a nightclub DJ in college I would always play this song on Valentine's Day because everyone at the bar was single. Everyone would sing along 😆
Agree their early stuff is the best by far! Looking for a Love, Hard Driving Man from Live Full House album among their best! The greatest live band I've ever seen.
J. Geils is definitely one of those bands that really evolved over their career. They were a straight up “House Party” band when they started. J.Geils is the name of the guitar player. Their concerts were looong affairs! Long wamma jammas. They would encore and encore then fake end the concert , turn on the house lights, THEN COME BACK OUT to keep the party going. Please react to “(Ain’t Nothin But A) House Party”. J.Geils is FUN!!
Yep, I had all these J Geils songs on 45s, I can still picture them. The 45 for Centerfold (with Rage in the Cage as the B side) was pink, the one for Freeze Frame was gray, and the one for Love Stinks was green. ☺
I'm 49 and remember this like it was last week. It's one of the videos that helped MTV make a name for itself. Great times and music! Hello from northeast Ohio.
Saw them three times and they are the greatest party band of all time! You have to do Give it to Me,Strutting With My Baby Whammer Jammer is required for the person who loves real harmonica playing at its finest.
Huge J.Geils Band fan here too, always dug their songs, so fun, Love Stinks is up there with the greatest songs of all time IMO...and I got to witness the band live when they reunited & played Mohegan Sun one New Years Eve...OMG that whole place was a party, their energy was off the chain, they did blow our faces out for sure!! The one band to combine rock & roll with like a James Brown soul revue & the funk, seamlessly...Peter Wolf is like the most loose lipped frontman ever, Steven Tyler has nothing on him...I got their 2CD anthology Houseparty, and it's killer, and shows both the live side from all the live albums and all the hits...highly recommended!!
Another great one! This came out when I was in 9th grade. And they are so fun. My daughter learned to whistle because of Centerfold! Love you guys (and it doesn't stink) 🤣 {{{hugs!}}}
In high school in the 70's their concerts were NOT to be missed. They were the ultimate party band with everyone dancing in the aisles and in front of the stage. Mayhem at its best! Yes kids, there was once a time when you weren't required to stay at your seats. 🤣
Freeze Frame, Centerfold, Love Stinks - the ultimate party music :-) Maybe you will like also the performance on the ultimate hippie festival Woodstock by Sha Na Na
yes this song was featured in the Wedding Singer as a little mood music. The song written by lead singer Peter Wolf and keyboardist Seth Justin. The weird sounds were made using a synthesizer
Saw them at the Boston Garden - excellent show, lots of fun. One of the best Boston bands to see live in concert. Try “Centerfold” “Freeze Frame” Wama Jama” all rockin songs from the 80’s.
Peter Wolf is one of the great frontmen in rock history. He has some great solo work as well. Midnight Souvenirs is an amazing album, with a duet with Shelby Lynne called 'Tragedy'. And if Amber likes a pogo stick, you *have to* look into the video for his song 'Come As You Are'!
Those beginning lines were so relatable to my junior-high-age self in the '80s. A boy had a crush on me, but I liked a different boy and he liked someone else. lol
J Giel met while students at WPI , an engineering school that I went to . The song House Party, is a tribute to how they played at fraternity parties , " house parties" when they were stundens
Please do the long version of J. Geils "Give it to Me"! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UDU3evB5_K8.html This song is rocking and funky as hell!!! 🎧😎 Features some amazing solos from each of the band members.
He was using two tambourines on the drums. J Geils was a party band and known for their live shows. There biggest seller was a live album called "Full House". Many bands, when music videos became a thing, they had to do, and they didnt like it that much so they just messed around like in that video. Suddenly musicians had to became video makers too. As the song says "Video killed the Radio Star"
I have been at weddings and instead of clinking glasses to get the couple to kiss, people go up to the head table and sing a song with the word "love" in it. The chorus of this song is my go to, along with the Oscar Meyer song.
I saw them live once as a teen back in 1981 at l.a. coliseum they opened for rolling stones along with prince and george thorogood they were amazing got the crowd really pumped up!
A deeper cut which is fun yet amazing is "Whammer Jammer" which is a really fun instrumental song with the most amazing harmonica solo you've ever heard.
Have never seen the movie. Not an Adam Sandler fan but have been rocking out to J. Geils since Jr. High. This song came out my senior year in 1980. Such good times!
Rob Squad....there is a movie called "Love Stinks" which flew under the radar in the late 90s. Comic gold! Maybe not an A-list movie that a lot will know, but I highly suggest it!
