I got this one from Ry Cooder's "Chicken Skin Music." I've had the record for about 35 years, but only recently discovered how great it is.
I just wanted to get this down live, so there isn't much to the video.
I think this song is incredibly beautiful. And it's so sad that it's almost funny. By the fourth verse you're just hoping nothing else will go wrong for the poor guy.
It's a long piece, with a lovely Hawaiian style slack-key solo in the middle (drop D tuning). I find it hypnotic.
One guitar, one voice, one great song - happiness :O)

Thank you! Unbelievable coincidence occurred this morning. I was sitting down to breakfast and I had itunes running in shuffle mode on a playlist I have with >3500 tunes. I open up my phone and see a notification, which is your comment. As I am reading it, itunes starts playing Ry's recording of this very song.

Thanks Mike! It's always nice to find out that somebody enjoys these things. My goal is always to try to make my performance as nice to listen to as possible - mostly for my own sake, since I'm the primary audience :O) I have many more recordings at my site (see descrip above). Are you a musician?

Great job. I think the big problem for us Ry fans is the lack of Tab out there. Would you happen to ,,,,,,,

Thanks. Glad you like it. If I had a TAB I would be happy to share it, but I do not. I figured this one out by ear. The changes are quite conventional, but the low E is tuned down to D. You can see my left hand pretty well, and from that, the right hand follows :O)

Mr Steiding, you have played this song beautifully. I have been trying to learn to play it by watching you, however I am struggling a good bit. I wonder if you could tell me are you using standard tuning, or an alternative tuning. I would be so grateful if you could answer this one question for me. Thank you very much. Terry

Happy to help. The low E is tuned down a step to D. Otherwise, standard tuning.
